What's your dream 5-7" wilderness blade?

This works for me, especially in winter-time:

J.P. Peltonen M95 Ranger Puukko, blade lenght ~6"

Nicely balanced, not a great chopper (dont really need one), surprisingly dextrous to use for its size... great for smaller tasks too, and sturdy as hell. And, as a bonus, the nicest sheath I've ever handled

While my head says that a bigger knife (FBM) and a smaller knife (AD) makes more sense, I can't help really liking a good mid-length blade. It's what I grew up with.

JParanee has picked one of my favourites with the Hell Razor - I spend a few hour the other day bringing it's convex edge back of to really, scary sharp. I've got the sore, skinless finger tip to prove it!

Another I really like is the Fallkniven A1, and of course my Busse ASH-1's (LE and Hog editions).

However, my 'dream' knife? If it's not one of the ones I already have, it might be a Busse SFNO (Special Forces Natural Outlaw), original release, satin blade with magnum handles. I've never been fortunate enough to handle one but it looks perfect - a more 'outdoorsy' version of the HR, which is more a fighter type to me.

I've got the new, longer version ordered from Busse, but I would still like to try the original.

I thought at one time that a Ferhman First Strike would be the dream knife. Great steel, great design and quality build, but it just doesn't work as well in my hand as the Busses. A real shame because the knife itself is terrific.

Pretty much any 'dream' knife for me will be from Busse (although Ferhman comes really close) because I've had terrific experience with the steel. I do sometimes wish other makers could use it though; I would love an infi version of my NWA Forum Knife for instance, even better the bigger version that tknife has!

Here are some HR's and an ASH-1:

In this size range I really like the Bark River Rogue.

A lot of knife for not a lot of weight. It handles a variety of tasks well.

Whoa! I always liked the simple but functional look of that knife, sort of like one of the "Helle" designs that went thru boot camp! I just bought the latest ish of Tactical Knives and they featured the new shorter 5" version but with a slightly 1/16" wider blade. The sheath also adds loads of character

Here are mine!

For the 5" lenghts, I'm a fan of these two knifemakers:

Busse or Mission Titanium knives, are both my top two picks.
My 5.8 FB, is my Mission MPT. Since I purchased the MPT first, I really don't Need a Busse. I didn't say, Want!!

My RC-6 works in that range (but I do find it a tad on the large size)

The peacemaker is quite a bit lighter than the RC. RC makes a better chopper, but the peacemaker is better suited for belt carry and utility use.

Fallkniven A1 or S1 would be a fine choice. I use smaller knives as well for detailed work.

In that size I really like my CRK Sable (5.5") and I actually fulfilled my dreams a while back in this larger size knife with a Shane Sibert Scout! I have not looked at any others in this size since this purchase. Wish I had pics but none yet (don't know how to post anyway) but many have already seen it. It was once owned by Gundy I think. It came with a Lifter's Leather sheath and Okuden Kydex. It's 1/4" s30v and just fits my hand like it was made special just for me! I have seen pictures of this knife posted here in BFC in the past. Not good for detail work but I always have my Sebenza and slipjoint and normally a Leatherman Wave too. ;) As much as I like this knife I still prefer a 4-4.5" and small axe. The Sable actually handles like a much smaller blade to me, maybe because the blade is not very deep?

For a great knife at a good price right in the middle of that range, it's hard to beat an RC-6:

However, if you're willing to drop the cash, I picked up this sweet Hellrazor in the exchange:

While it does seem (and handle) like a fighting knife, the depressions in the top make it extremely well-suited to choking up on the blade for fine work. I've doen some experimenting with it, and it makes great fuzz sticks easily, drills very well, cuts soft stuff like vegetables and stalky plants very well, and is good for moderate chopping. It has enough belly to make a good game dressing knife, and the dropped point, besides making a good stabbing implement, makes it easy to drill with.
Oh, and it's one hell of a sexy knife to boot.

The ones I like, in no particular order, are:

CS Master Hunter or SRK
Busse Satin Jack (the original)
SR Bog Dog
Dozier Pro Guide

Plenty of knife for most tasks (for knives of that size), and light enough that you don't know you are even carrying a knife.

Just realized I made three posts in a row in three separate threads regarding Breeden knives. Man I need to get a life!

I don't have one, but I want an Ahti or Jarvenpaa Leuku REAL BAD! I don't have any ice or reindeer to chop up, but you never know...

I have in recent year and a half or so been using a Fehrman Last Chance...5 inch blade, or the Peacemaker 4 inch as my main blade. But I am trying to find a Laconico blade as they look nice and would love to put one thru its paces....but my Fehrmans have held up well to an unusual amount of abuse....
