What's your dream 5-7" wilderness blade?

Laconico HWK+

I could really see one of these in a 6" - 8" in 1/4" O1 with thumb treads. My 4" HWK+ is doing the job for now though.

i have wanted a Ricky Fowler survival knife for a long time now...:o i don't think Ricky is making knives much these days, so they're getting fairly hard to come by...:(
i know that Brian Goode is making a knife very similar to this one called his "to the woods" knife... it looks really nice...

How do you like a short height grind? "Saber" is that? vs. a high grind.

Here are mine!

Gene Ingram's work

I really like this one.
My RC-6 works in that range (but I do find it a tad on the large size)

I've been considering one of these. How does the 1095 hold up to regular field use?

Currently I am looking for a good one to replace the Last Chance I've been using. I like the Last Chance but am itching for something 'new'.

MedOps, in my experience with the RC-3 and a prototype Izula the 1095 holds up very well. Rowen mfg does the best heat treat for 1095 of any knife in that steel that I own.

In reference to 1095, my 4.5" knife that I made holds up well, but my BK7 is indestructible.

Real close tie between the Busse SAR and the BATAC.
BATAC is more versatile to me (it is not quite 5" blade though), primarily because it is so heavy in the blade, that it makes a really decent little chopper using a wirist lanyard set up - no other Small Fixed blade I've had to date comes near it with being killer for fuzz sticks + great chopping ability in proportion to its size.

If I planned on no potential of chopping - I'd go with the SAR as it is more compact, longer blade, and a squared pommel.

Both would serve you well.

Gotta admit though those Laconico / Ingrams look pretty sweet

Damn mike, that is badass. Looks like a winner. You plannin on gettin one?

I could see it redone in a high scandi grind.

i would love to get one of these knives... except i'm having a hard time finding one... i don't think that ricky is making them anymore...:(

brian goode's interpretation of it, is really nice... i might have to start saving my pennies for one of those instead...

This with a 7 inch blade......

Monster1219-01.jpg

seeing as it costs about as much as a Busse.....I would be saving for a while.

If I were to get one tommorow..... I would need to experience my first barkie......

Bravo_2_Blk_Canvas_matte.jpg

or the HWK from Ray..... :D

Good choices. Have you handled that Krein?

I think I like that, how long is the blade? Time to start grinding!

very cool john... i would love to see a Jk knife in this size range..
i have always like dthe design of this knife.... it was featured in TK, some years back...

here's some specs i found...

Blade: 3/16 in. thick, 01
Blade length: 9 7/8 in.
OAL: 16 1/4 in.
Handle: Micarta.
Sheath: Black Leather.

I'd really like something with no guard or choil, slight forward cant, and a roughly 8" blade. Less than that doesn't make it worth a chopper.

I`ll be ordering more O1 tomorrow. ;) Do you think the blade is about 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" tall? I`ll have to dig through my old issues of TK.

Nope, but at 3/8 thick it will be quite the chopper! And my Woodcarver (Toms own! :D) would make an excellent companion to it!

3/8" is crazy! Tom is one of the guys I'm talking too about my "perfect" knife, which is why I started this thread. I used to be just right down the road from him! Now I'm 2300 miles away. Great gun, and amazing quality.
