Wheeler Fighting Bowie Project :) ( UPDATED CUTTING & FORGING VIDEOS)

I think finishing is my largest deficiency. Probably has more to do with my lack of tools to do the job than my understanding though....

Experience with filing the proper profiles on turbine engine guide vanes and blades probably gave me a good start...

These videos are top notch, Nick. Great information!

Can't wait for part 2 of the finish grinding. I'm particularly interested to see how you preserve the plunge during finish grinding on the disc.

Top notch vid production.
Way cool blade symmetry explanation and very interesting to see
how you get the ultra-clean finish you are noted for.

Thanks, Nick !

Hey fellas- :)

Well, I had all kinds of video for the second part of the finish grinding and a ton of handle shaping video, but had a SNAFU... so now I need to re-shoot that stuff. :grumpy:

And as much as I didn't want to, I got enough ribbing... er, um... encouragement, from my friends like gga357 :D to do a video on sharpening one of these blades.

I did get the following video done--- it was geared more toward helping other makers, but some of you guys might be interested, so what the heck. ;) :D

Thanks guys! :)

Your the man! I enjoy all the videos no matter the intended audience.

This is a great thread, I'm going to have to read it over and over to absorb it. Thanks for putting it together, Joe

The thumbnail for this one kind'a freaks me out... ;) LOL

I KNOW there are guys that will watch the video above and be irked that I took one minute to show my dogs. But, quite frankly, I just don't care. They are my boys and they are just as much a part of the daily shop experience as any of the tools (but a LOT MORE FLUFFY!).... :) And yea, I sound like a little school girl when I talk to them. :o ;) I'm man enough to acknowledge it. :D

Regarding video #3 that was in this post----

Oooooops... sleep deprivation strikes again. I didn't get the editing where I wanted it on that one, yet still managed to save and upload it... Grr, that sucks because it takes forever to save the edited video to my computer and then almost as long to upload it to youtube. All to change about 25 seconds worth of stuff. Oh well. Two steps forward, 1-3/4 steps back... story of my life! :foot:

I grabbed a couple hours sleep and my coffee and we're back on track now (albeit a slow, goofy, meandering track)... ;) :D

When the third finish grinding video is saved and uploaded I'll post it back up. :)

Okay... got it fixed up. :)

This one will take you through to the point of the blade being finish ground and ready to hand sharpen on stones.
