Which Busse to send Joe X?

I couldn't watch his videos because I thought for sure he was going to cut his hands or stab himself.

Watch him test the Gerber Strongarm not a very expensive blade at all but it took all the abuse he could muster. I couldn't believe the tip didn't snap off as I've seen him snap many blades in half. It's really pretty interesting what some knives can take when pushed to the extreme limit of the steel and heat treatment of the blades. That Triad lock is pretty dam tough as well. I enjoy destruction or lack of with certain knives. you just have to give him a chance and watch a few as I was a naysayer myself at first until I watched a few. I think Noss would like them as well. Some will like destruction testing and some will not to each their own, but Busse got their reputation by extreme testing in the beginning as well. Have fun folks, 😁👍

I'll be honest, I like Joe X. It is fun to watch him regularly almost really hurt himself destroying knives.
But I cringe thinking of sending a Busse to him. Any Busse. He isn't going to stop until he has broken whatever knife it is, or put himself in the hospital (or the ground). I don't really want to watch any of those three. I know a Busse will stand up to anything i put it to, with no regard as to whether it should or not. But I don't go out with the sole purpose of breaking the knife.
All that being said, IMO there is something to be said for his tests of pushing a knife until it does break. I'd rather him take a knife purposely beyond its limits, than my accidentally finding the limits myself.

But anyway... he's fun to watch.

After some thinking, I’m going to say send him whatever knife you want. I know people won’t want to see one destroyed, but one way or another, eventually he’s going to get a knife. So it might as well be a good one. One that’s a staple of Busse quality. A thick somnabish that’ll go down fighting or won’t go down at all. Think about it, either way he’s going to get a blade from the “toughest in the business”.

I just watched his estwing test, at the end he says “we did it, we killed the estwing”
This man won’t be reasoned with.
He’s going to try to kill the blade any means necessary, and sooner or later he’ll get a Busse blade regardless of what we say.
It will be publicly displayed for the world to see.
Its going to happen, as it did years ago with Noss, and Cliff (rip). Their tests, in my opinion, only strengthened Jerry’s standup reputation of great quality and warranty.

I’d Rather he get a blade worth testing than a smaller blade that’ll eventually break and have the world gossiping about how Joe Shmoe broke a Busse with a rock.

So given my thoughts, what knife do you guys think would be a standard of Busse quality. My immediate thought would be some kind of battle mistress, infi of course. Or res-c blade for extra handle durability like the Alpha regulator 9.5? Hog Gemini? Trough raider?

What do you guys think?

Noss about wore himself out testing the FFBM to destruction... Give X one of those 🤣

Something to beat that Dam metal pole. It seems like the vibration test gets them all in the end. I was thinking something in the old SYCO-S77 like the jackhammer bit type metal and thick as hell too. A fat Ash in S77 or similar maybe, well good luck folks.

Good idea, so far my vote goes to either the Fat Ash or the FFBM.

Pulling away from Sykco for this one because as tough as they are, the tang is undoubtedly more robust on Busse knives.

The fattest Steel Heart ever made, is what i'd recommend. I'm not smart enough to know which one that would be.

I’ve watched a few Joe X videos and I think they’re pretty fun and informative.

I look at him like the Steve Erwin of knives, and I expect there’s a good chance he’ll go out in a similar manner (hope not).

Until then - fun to watch!

I agree with dogboye dogboye - a thick Steel Heart (or Natural Outlaw) would probably perform well in these tests.

This Busse did amazingly well:

Looks like it did great, and that model is also awesome for an outdoors/woods type blade. 👍

Never heard of this guy, and I understand people have mixed opinions about destruction testing, but imho, if it's done well and methodically, I'm a big fan.

To put this in context, if it wasn't for finding NOS destroying a Scrapper 6 I may never have found Bussekin blades, and been convinced they were worth spending more on. 13 years later I have two dozen Busse and kin and have spent a thousand enjoyable hours chatting on this forum.

The other thing about Busse and destruction tests is after watching the video above I would still confidently trust the NMSNO they are using and i can't say that about other knives.

What I can't wrap my mind around is taking something that someone poured their hard work into to produce, only to set-out to destroy it for no real good reason.
From what I’ve seen, there IS a reason with Joe X (unlike people like “Whistlin’ Diesel” on YouTube who literally destroys expensive trucks for fun ☹️). He’s trying to see how much abuse different knives can take in an extreme situation (you’re trying to get through the roof of a car to rescue someone for instance).

I’d prefer if the testing was more consistent/scientific, but until there are other people (like Noss 🤘) doing that, I’ll watch this guy and gather what information I can.

You probably don’t watch NASCAR. ;)

Same.

Good points.. he will test Busse and I think soon. Its all up to that final test he usually does smacking it against the steel pole. If INFI can take the shock it will survive, if not it will break. How soon it breaks could be a problem for Busse. It will unfortunately have a effect on the brand if knives made out of low toughness steels like 1095 outperform INFI.

420hc if cooked well is extremely tough. Same level as A8mod, 3v.
