Same. I love and respect Mike. I still think it's a bad idea to open a knife that way.

Have to agree. I'd never do it. I can be candid, my job involves long hours at a desk and it's been many years since I worked any sort of hard labor job. Keyboards don't tend to give you the callous you'd probably need in order to not get cut (as far as I can see), so that automatically leaves me out! Plus, I like my knives SHAAAARP. No way I'd be putting my thumb pad against anything I had sharpened.

I think I have read every word of these pages extolling the Virtues of all kinds of ways to open my Traditional Folders . I have evaluated every one of them to the MINIMAL amount possible and I have decided to do it the way I have done for over 70 years even though every one had Valid Points even though they may have been pointed up instead of down . Now we have to figure out the last great Question as to the proper side to carry your Fixed Blade in a Sheath .

And it takes an extra step to take the knife out of the slip, but who cares, you're in the Traditional Knife Zone?! Ah, an opportunity to use your knife. You take the beautifully-crafted leather slip from your pocket, run your hand over the edges, admire the skill that went into its manufacture. Slowly take the knife from the slip...ahhh...doesn't that feel good? Admire the beauty of it, run your fingers over the covers, delight in how lucky you are to have such a great knife, don't rush. You open the blade, enjoying the tension of the spring, and the familiar snap. Now you're ready. It's one of the great moments of your day, why would you want to hurry it? ;)
It’s like you’ve been spying on me! That’s excatly how I did it the time I got tangled in my rope and I was skipping across the pasture on my butt at the speed of a racing cow (which is a lot faster than you might realize). And you’re right, when I got that rope cut, it was one of the great moments of my day.:D

Benny Hill?!
... I thought you were dead!

If I have a knife that needs to be opened with a nail nick, I use my thumb and first finger to put the knife away forever or to dispose of it

This can be considered “marital misconduct”.

LOL, I love the low key shade as well, when people say that their knife is "too sharp" to do the CK method. Of course implying that your knife is dull.;):D:D:D:D:cool:
I dont think i would be brave enough to do the CK method with a butter knife folder. I get anxious watching his videos haha. Great marketing strategy though, as I watch his videos specifically for that reason.

If Jack is Danielle Steel, then Barrett is Leo Tolstoy.

I know it’s a dig at my lengthy post, but I’ll just take it as a compliment to my writing style. :D

LOL! :D I'm glad I have that video to remind how I opened a knife before this thread confused the heck out of me! :D

I've read Tolstoy, but had to look up Danielle Steel! :D

:D :D

I have a couple lock backs, but don’t carry ‘em that often. I do use that flick-to-open method on my MAM. Talk about snap! :D

If you hold the knife that way, it's right-side-up... just look at the writing on the shield of your Case, Northfield, and Tidioute knives. ;)

One of these is upside-down... just sayin' ;)

If the shield had operating instructions on it, you "lefties" wouldn't be able to read them. :D

When I say upside down, I’m talking about the orientation of the knife in your hand. Unless you’re in a slasher movie, the pivot goes up by your index finger, and the butt goes down by your pinky.

Out of curiosity, John, when you slice a steak, do you do it with the edge facing upward so you can read the shield? ;) :D
