Who keeps a 'hawk by their beds. Anyone?

Some posts mentioned "hawks all over the house", hawks under the bed,
etc. And I just read somewhere that hawks are being used more and more regularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I want to get a hawk, But not the CS Vietnam version.

Any other recommendations? Like maybe one of the other Cold Steels?

(&BTW guys I'm not looking to spend $200.00 )

For me its a matter of honor. If you have the nuts to come into my home and violate my space, take what belongs to me or harm those I love, damn straight you're gonna feel my wrath. I know that most see honor as a thing of the past, but you guys in the military will agree, that when it comes to it, it better them than me, and even my countries laws be damned! I'm not a liberal or a conservative, and I believe in equal rights for all, but when you walk into my house you just entered the united states of Bradley.

And as far as hawk or gun, I say hawk. Throwing it, not an option. Waiting quietly for someone to get close enough, pretty freakin hard to do under adrenaline, but shooting at someone in the middle of the night and contributing to the danger my loved ones are in, not happening. I prefer the level of control I have with my hawk. It never leaves my hand, and is light enough that if they start to move, I can adjust. I love this country and I appreciate that I'm innocent till proven guilty, and I don't want to kill anyone, and I don't want to go to jail, but I would rather be locked up and know my family is safe, than be free and them be dead. I'm only 25, I'm young and probably more than a bit cocky, but I stand by my opinion, and I don't see it changing in the near future.

Bradley

I could be wrong here, but something tells me if 1, 2 or even 3 bad guys entered the the united states of Bradley armed with guns, you'd sure as hell be wishing for more than a hawk in hand. Somehow I doubt it though.

I, luckily, have a shelf that runs along 2 walls of my bedroom about 3 feet above my bed. I have, at the ready, SWICK, SPOT, Nimravus Cub, TDI (small and large), Osborne folder, TSEK, a BRUTE hanging next to the bed, and my war hammer against the wall. I'm not paranoid, it's just where I keep them.:)

M4 with surefire vertical foregrip light combo (M900), EOTech, ARMS back up irons is what is next to the bed but i have hawks and would use them as back up.

On my bedpost is a 12 guage riot gun,a short artillery sword and a Bowie knife. Not to mention every other nook and cranny around my house
But hey I have a whole other bedpost and a Hawk would kinda even things out ;)

Howdy GroovyMr1337,Texas is a fine place indeed

BY the way interesting topic Buddilee,Thanks for starting it
Just to get back to the subject of Hawks
I bought this rusted axehead to make a Hawk for my other bedpost
I have decided to attempt making one myself and I wanted to start with a very pitted rusty one.I've got my work cut out for me

Hatchet @ bedside, 3" blade under my ribcage or pillow, 6" and 8" blades within arms reach. Hatchets and/or Toms in each vehicle. Powder actuated home defense isn't something I discuss openly.

We have a lot of break ins around our place, but I think sites of me stalking coyotes with a Busse Steel Heart, through our neighborhood, gave enough people the impression that it's unwise to come down to my place with ill intent.;) The neighbors know me for a guy with questionable background, and a blade fetish. Plus, I throw Toms, hatchets and knives out in my yard. The local kids like that. :D

I like my SOG fusion. It's like a modern nam hawk.

I've got a mossy with the same grip also. However I keep mine locked away in a gun cabinet. I'd worry about arriving home and finding a burglar armed with my shotgun. If I came home and he had my hawk I'd just shoot him but if he had my 12 gauge it would be a way worse situation. I like that custom holster for your mossy. That would strap on my horse or my harley quite nicely.

I hear ya dishdoc, but I would know if an intruder were in my home as I have a pretty elaborate alarm system as well as surveillence cameras around the paremiter of my house. If I get an alarm I can check my cams before I ever get to the house and in that case you are right it would be a situation that I would not want to deal with so I would just have the authorities deal with it.
However if they were unavailable I have that covered as well....I also like my Colts ;)

I didn't serve, have never been in a combat zone. My personal experience with daily violence comes from living in the Echo Park neighborhood in Los Angeles. Rocks thrown through my windows, drunks swinging their crutches at my girl, getting cursed out in three languages, homeless drunks wandering around my neighborhood with God knows what in their hands. Not to mention hordes of drunk and homeless illegals trying to scrape a living together off your detritus. How many times has my car been broken into or stolen. How many times have I had some a$$hole talk $hit to my face. How many times would I liked to have reached into my pocket and pulled my piece and ventilated somebody. A million times. Ten years of grinding against my fellow man, who hates me.

I used to carry a Derringer every single time I left the house. Safety off, hammer back, looking around corners, making sure the coast was clear before I DROVE TO WORK IN THE MORNING. It was pretty bad. Never again.

After a decade of that stuff, I moved to a beautiful and safe suburb and I have vowed to never again go back to the hood. That move was the best one I ever made. I want to give this whole neighborhood a huge hug and a kiss. I don't carry my gun with me every day anymore! I don't need it! I can walk to the Coffee Bean and back without a gun! God Bless this lovely little town, and may it stay the same forever.

I think that your best friend in a home invasion situation is a locked door. Lock the front door to your home. Close your windows and make sure that an intruder has to break glass to get in. Better yet, bars on the ground floor, a barred door to the 2nd story, and a barred front door.

There's a guy I know from Compton that has three, count 'em, THREE steel doors going into the front of his house, and steel mesh over all his ground floor windows. You can get steel bars that get under your door knobs and lock into a plate in the floor.

If you want security, LOCK THAT TIHS DOWN! Then you don't have to manage burglars. They're going to pick a non-hardened target. You don't have to deal with rapists when there's juicy blond girls walking down the street somewhere else.

Dog outside. Hardened doors and windows. Dog inside. Locked steel door outside. Hardened bedroom door, 12-gauge, etc. Nobody in their right mind is going to make it through a hardened interior door.

Plus. And this is a HUGE plus. You don't have to go to jail for the rest of your life or get sued until you're completely broke forever. The civilian world is different from the combat zone. There are rules here, and there are consequences to breaking the rules.

I don't have a problem with you having a tomahawk next to your bed. I have a G19 clipped to the frame of my bed. And a khukri. The most important thing to me though, is to lock my front door.

After writing all this nonsense, I'm going to buy one of those floor plates and steel bars that slip up under the doorknob and fortify my front door. You would have to be one determined person to make it through that.

And maybe Jack (my orange tabby attack cat) wouldn't meyow enough to wake me up, I still might have at least two shoulder loads up on my door before the intruder made it through my door.

Thank you for your service. I very much appreciate the sacrifice you make in serving our national interests.

I don't think I want to convince the responding officers, the district attorney, and a jury of sheeple that I had no choice but to hack the deceased to death with a 'hatchet". Evan after you pass the physiological exam.

If they find out you have a gun in the house and decided to chop them up instead you will be fighting a losing battle to stay free, they will lock you up just to get your crazy ass of the streets. Nobody wants to live in the same town with a 'ax murderer'.

If it comes out that you 'Laid in wait and attacked from hiding' or that 'police found XXX number of knifes and other edged weapons hidden and stored all around the house' it will be lucky if you are not charged with murder.

People worry about using hollow points and your talking about chopping people up.

I'm not flaming anybody just pointing out if you do this thing you wont be tried on Blade Form or any thing else that resembles a jury of your pears. You will be judged first by the LEs that respond, the DA that reviews and if it comes to it 12 sheeple that will have to look at the photos of the crime seen and all the propaganda by the prosecution.

You might be better off shooting them, it's the politically correct way of doing in your fellow man.

My personal opinion is once in your house they get what they get and good riddance to bad rubbish. A hawk to the skull should be a acceptable solution to varmint control. If they can't live with the dissicions they make in life maybe they can be a lesson to others.

Yes keeping them out is the first step in home security. Living in a safe place is good to.

I live in a 'nice town' and a good neighborhood and still Carry a gun and knives and watch around corners and .......

Not that I am in constent danger, just people suck. In our nice town a convicted PERV. tried to snatch my daughter at a crowded Wal-mart while my wife was reading labels not 5 feet from her. (she was 2 at the time) My wife started yelling and the perv. drooped my daughter and ran. Nobody tried to help just went back to shopping. Point is your still on your own even in a nice place to live. It ain't the hood but you are still surrounded by evil, just in a nicer wrapper.

You can have the hawk, I will keep my Beretta 92fs 9mm. I also have a Rem 870 12ga in case the situation gets out of hand.

Nothing wrong with having a club or an axe as well though!
