"Why do you have so many knives!" how many have heard this?

Those who do don't even have to try. ;)

Well, luckily, I do not get questioned on this very often, unless I am making a large purchase, then my fiance and mom may get on my case! They did for the recent $350 I dropped on an Espada XL in S35VN, an XL Voyager Tanto, and a Grik. Told them that was the last knife purchase I'm making in a long while, and it is! But I also have a Matriarch 2, RAT 1, (free) CRKT Squid and limited edition Opinel coming.

When I'm going out-out, I usually like to carry 3-4 knives on me. Usually something like a Winchester slippie in the fifth pocket, a Spyderco PM2 S45VN or RAT 1 as my "main", then a RAT2 or an old-fashioned folder (Mercator, Opinel, Higo, Douk, Cotton Sampler) as a secondary, then a large "get off me" knife like a Verlangerungsmesser, which is like a 6" folding clasp bowie with a blade bigger than the handle, or a 6" "waved" stiletto.

Nobody minds this, as I was actually out-knifed at Christmas at my fiancé's grandma's house! We were cutting and processing lemons, and my girl wanted a knife I only had my PM2, didn't bring my big blade or my secondary, slippie was too small for my girl, so she had to use my multitool blade and she wanted a real knife, and forgot hers!

"Why do you have so many knives!", I'm sure many people have heard this one...
I don't hear it because I don't listen to ignorant people anymore... Especially when it comes with a somewhat smug smile. Not worth an answer.

I believe women's jeans pockets are way smaller then men's jeans pockets....and most dresses don't have pockets or the weight of the knife makes the dress look asymetric. My fiancée is German and i bought a nice trachtenmesser for my lederhosen. She felt it was not ok that the Dirndl she has has no pocket for a nice knife!
Put the Messer in the garter ! Here a Spanish, antique, woman's knife (it's no nail cleaner : 4" blade !)

But I believe this would fit well in the garter, too. And it's as ""jagdknickery" as it gets. Great for a Dirndl :

Today I had a "YOU HAVE TO MANY KNIVES!" at work today. My 8 in one putty knife tool and my execto one inch type box cutter. And I should of gotten rid of one of them and do my job with one of them. I was tempted to take out the CS Recon Tanto and Code 4 as well and show them I had more than 2 "EVIL KNIVES!", but some one said behind the idiot "Then you do some real work and his job out side then." And shut up the idiot, then he wanted to see my Recon 1 tanto that made the whiner's face go white when leaving.

I have a friend who collects Pokemon cards here ask me this.... I felt like dying.
I used to collect the cards as a kid, but I never played with them. All of my friends and I (aged 21 to 23) became obsessed two years ago. We spent far more money on cards than I will ever admit. Since I'm away getting my master's, my fiance and I play via webcam.

Living in Arkansas, I often get asked, by my co-workers, "How many knives do you reckon you have?"
I always tell them I have somewhere around fifty or sixty. Hell, that sounds like a fair estimate.
Always room for one more, old son!

My knives are not on display in my apartment........I really don't talk about how many knives I own unless I know the person will appreciate my collection.
Although I pretty much live my life that way. I only really talk or show something to someone that will understand.

I don't have much in the way of fancy knives, though I've been gifted a few nice ones. But I do have quite an accumulation of serviceable knives acquired over the past 50+ years. Possibly a couple hundred. Just the way things go.

Some people do wonder about my 60 or so hammers. I just point out that a real hammer guy like Scotty Fulton in Kentucky has over 12,000 hammers. The good thing about hammers is you don't have to sharpen them.
This reminded me of this $300 dollar knife/Knife VS Hammer scene in Bob's Burgers about men and their tools.

Since everyone that knows me, knows that I enjoy collecting and decorating my domain with interesting new, vintage, and antique objects, (knives being a big part of that collection), they just know that it's all a part of my collecting hobby. They never question why I have so many, they know it's a collection.
As another person mentioned above during this thread, a collector of whatever things it is that they collect, rarely just has a very few of them. They, (people that are into a collecting hobby), usually have quite a number of those things.
And, yes, I keep most of mine under glass, and feel no shame at all for doing so!

👍😊👍
