Greco uses 5160,1075,A2,8670 and sometimes 52100 (I`m lucky to have bought a few of his 1/4" thick 52100 MST`s for 50$ apiece and I`ll probbaly die waiting for being able to buy a knife made from 1/4" thick 52100 for 50$ again.)
Explain to me why a properly heat-treated knife from any of these steels would fail after 30 seconds of use or even abuse while a 300-500$ Strider made from stainless will just go on and on like the Energizer?
Isn`t it wishful thinking to believe that since you broke your bank account on a knife, paid as much or much more than for a gun (think how much complex machining requires making a gun) this knife will provide immeasurably superior service?
it is known in watch collector circles that it`s impossible to make a watch movement costing more than 200$,yet you see watches go for up to half a million $$ and even more. The 18k gold or platinum in them is worth 500-1000$,the movement production costs are 200$ yet people people pay for "prestige".People who buy overpriced watches are either rich folks for whom having such toys is a necessity to be accepted into the circle of similar people or they are very shallow, insecure people whom such toys help to feel good about themselves.A guy has a sense of accomplishment that he has "the best watch",a 50$ Orient automatic is just as good.
Diamonds are semi-precious stones mined by the tonne, the cost of 1 carat diamond is 5.00$ yet people have been conditioned to accept them as highly valuable,a fact known to any jeweler but not to most of his customers.
The same is applicable to knifecollecting. Many people have such identities as "Strider fans" or "Busse guys".Knife is man`s oldest tool, knives in general are rather simple and it doesn`t take Sigmund Freud to figure out the underlying causes of why people buy 500$+ sharpened prybars made from stainless or unknown steel.
