WIP Massive Titanium Roller Bearing Frame Lock

UPDATE!

OK so my carbide tooling came in and I rushed out to test it out. I fixed the gouges in the second blade with the carbide counter bore. Wow what a difference, I'm never buying another HSS cutter again. I cut the countersinks for the stainless .25 pivot in the Ti slabs as well.

Nice work.. you are on a roll man! Hope I see that pre-order post before the animals do!

Very curious of seeing your grinds.. do you have any other knives you made you have pics of that are finished?

Cheers!

To be blunt, I was never much of a knife guy, although I bought several Benchmades over the years, but the one that I've carried since I got the pre-production model was the 750 Pinnacle. At the time it was rather beefy without being too commando and the titanium handles were a first to me.
This.
This is its cyborg Godzilla cousin--somewhere between the precision machining involved with its inception, or the clean, lean design, I don't know--this speaks to me as a Hacker's embellished version, every ounce made of pure Wintanium. This and Patrice's Two on the Bench thread have become my morning cup of coffee and evening cigarette.

Holy Cow!!!! Finally a folding knife with a blade longer than 4". If you are doing a pre-order notification list add me to it. This knife is what I always had in mind when it came to a titanium framelock, massive and overbuilt and strong as an ox. Can't wait to see the finished prototype. Great job.

Awesome. Can't wait to see the progress.

OK so made some progress! I got my .5" carbide ball end mill in today so now I can do the lock-bar relief. Tonight I drilled the stand off holes out with a #43 carbide jobber and then reamed them to size with a #32 strait flute carbide reamer. Next I counter sunk the face to 82deg. and installed the MASSIVE tri ring standoffs with Torx flat head steel 4-40 screws. These suckers are .29" wide! Tomorrow I have a treat for you guys. I think you will really dig it.

This is really coming together nicely. Have you come to a final decision on blade steel? Keep this tip up and let me know where to send the down payment.

OK your on the contact list.

So here is something you guys probably don't see a lot. Packaging to me can make or break a product, especially a luxury item like a custom knife. It seems a damn shame to spend hundreds of dollars on a beautiful work of art and have it arrive wrapped in newsprint or bubble wrap. Most people don't mess with nice packaging because it costs too much. Well i have access to laser cutters so that just isn't a problem. Here is my prototype concept for the packaging of the folder. It will probably change but here's a sneak peek.

Yes! On so many levels YES! That packaging knocks everything I've ever seen for knife packaging out of the galaxy. I'm in agreement that you would think something as beautiful and expensive as a custom knife would be packaged in more than bubblewrap, and while I would prefer tip down for any flipper I purchase, I am 100% behind this project and am excited to get the chance to own one!!!

Nice presentation - a little Japanese style?

I always prefer a cleaner elegant style of packaging. So yes there may be a bit of Japanese influence.

I love sealing packaging with a custom stamp and wax. To me it speaks a design language of centuries of tradition, a bespoke custom feel that insures the quality of product from maker to customer. We as knife makers have thousands of years of tradition behind us to draw inspiration from. Its a big deal to receive a custom knife many of us wait weeks and months for. I just want to make the experience a memorable one.

This thread is pure greatness. I'd be highly interested in a 3V version of whatever this beast morphs into.

Wanted to make sure that you have me on your list:D Do you have an idea about how you will finish the handle scales? And that packaging looks upscale and classy, very nicely done.

Ok your on the contact list. As to the finished slabs I'm thinking brushed to 400-600 grit with an option for a flame anodizing.
