My wife carries a byrd wings slippit, more practical than than sexy.also a couple of opinals for garden duties.I dont see what difference gender makes.
Women who know what they are about and are formidable both intellectually and physically are the most beautiful and attractive of all, except to those who need stereotypes or are intimidated. Be that as it may, even gorgeous members would do well to listen to Karda's admonition. Thinking of knives as implements of self defence requires a serious appreciation of the real world consequences and, if one is serious, tremendous training and discipline. Martial arts for assurance and defence, a serious appreciation of knives by more women, and more formidable female knife nuts would certainly be welcome. Too many men are too immaturely macho or boyish, and a mature ( emotionally and intellectually) female perspective would be and is very welcome. It might also help with our public image. Lord knows it's easier on the eyes than the gargoyles we mostly see![]()
Gender should make no difference, but it does due primarily to social conditioning thoughout their lives beginning when they are children. Does Mom carry a pocket knife? Does she use a pocket knife often? My Dad used a pocket knife all the time and I was conditioned as a kid that knives were very useful tools to have available all the time. I have male friends who are adults and only see a knife as something used to cut somebody, not for the multitude of other uses that I carry a EDC knife.
p.s. A fantastic selection of watches and damascus!! May I ask what knife that is? Rolex oyster is my grail watch!
One thing to consider: Sarah Palin, or rather the example of what the media have done to her and her association with guns, and the outdoor in general. No doubt women who exhibit an interest, and ability, with knives would go through some small version of that, from being branded a crazy something or other or a fake: dismissed and demeaned in one way or another, to hide or compesnate for something. Compensate for what, I don't know. Probably different for different dissers. I would guess most women who have, shall we say, challenging interests at any age get the gears somehow. I know we have up in Canada some absolutley fantastic female custom knife makers. Not many "civilians" though.
I think taking gender out of most everything we do and think would be a positive change. Check out the "Throw like a girl, and Run like a girl" campaign. The PSA's are most likely on YouTube and should be seen by all. As for carrying knives, people will never be without their cellphone, but you can't cut a seatbelt or peal fruit, etc., etc., etc. with a cell phone. Everyone here will be biased to carrying a knife but to me it's just common sense, when you need a knife you will always have it.
Frankly it seems narcissistic and attentions seeking to come to a website frequented by mostly men and post glamour shots of yourself. This kind of behavior degrades women. There are plenty of women who post on this site and participate without screaming Look at me. I appreciate people like Jill who seem to have a genuine interest in knives and can participate (and post awesome photos) without the drama and attention seeking.
As far as knives for self defense: I dont think that just anyone (man or woman) can realistically expect to defend themselves with a knife without extensive training. Its much easier to be proficient with a gun.
nm ....
One of my ex girlfriends carried a huge folding knife in her purse that she bought at a flea market, seriously the blade was probably 6 inches, it was a cheap knife that I laughed at but I'm sure it would do damage. I would be scared if my current GF or future GF carried a knife because I don't want them to cut off my wiener if they get upset about anything.
If my GF was as hot as Blade Girl I wouldn't mind if she carried a knife though.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am sorry that you feel that way about me and apologize for anything I have done to cause you think this. I have one photo of myself fixed up, that is my professional photo from my work I do. And I have a dressy picture of myself. The others of me are very plain, what I look like every day..unfixed hair, little to no make up. And then, I have a bunch of knife photos and EDC. I see nothing wrong with a woman having nice photos of herself on her profile and no reason for judgment for doing as such. However, you are entitled to your feelings. I am just new to all of this, still learning, and being myself. If that is unacceptable, I do again apologize. But, i can only be me. I hope you are having a great weekend, nonetheless, what is left of it. Peace and have a beautiful day!![]()
Pretty sexist comments. Maybe you might deserve to be cut somewhere the scars don't typically show up except in the locker room or the doctors office... For that post, I have to give a big :thumbdn:
