World War I Navy Issue Knife

Interesting that those Ambers appear darker - all the more enticing to get my grubby paws on one!!

Sue sent me another pic of the buttons! I am going to have to shift into "finagle" mode to see if I cannot score some of those!!

They are pretty cool for little buttons!! We might have to start a thread for buttons - maybe a sub-forum!!??
:D

These are very classy. Charlie you should be proud. The bolsters, bail, and all three hugged bone varieties are superbly pleasing to the eye. My vehicle needed attention so I had to sit these out. I imagine those who got them are very pleased.

The manicure blade seems an odd addition at first. My uncle was a sailor in the British Navy shortly after WW2, mainly on HMS Bulwark. I remember when I was a kid, him telling me that part of their daily inspection was showing their nails, they had to pay particular attention to them. I have absolutely no idea why, maybe it was some hangover from the days of checking for scurvy, as they checked the appearance of the 'moons', who knows? Maybe it was one of those things, like whitening stones, just something to take up time. In the British Army today, there are still very formalised rules about certain aspects of personal hygiene, all part of being in the forces.Perhaps one of our naval veterans might have an idea?

Great thread all in all, but I especially enjoyed seeing some of these old military photos. Thanks Jack.

This thread has me wanting badly. It's gonna be a long several days and that's if it's on time.

Charlie, those buttons are so nice. I'm surprised you just don't get them.

The description on the new box and its color are very unique and well done. Home run, Charlie.

Thanks for the nice comments, all of you!

This Navy knife series, both the SFOs and the Tidioute run have received a warm welcome. It broadens my horizons - I've always liked collecting knives a little out of the ordinary (no disparaging intended!), and these do it for me!!
I hope everyone who wants to, gets to enjoy one!!

Fantastic work Charlie  The buttons are cool too! ;)

Great thread all in all, but I especially enjoyed seeing some of these old military photos. Thanks Jack.

You're very welcome my friend, it's an interesting thread

Here is that old "patch" that I picked up the other day - obviously some sort of Queens service-your ideas Jack Sir? Love the Ropes and anchors- goes well with the Threads theme......

This thread needs more maritime themes. Italian Navy Watch, Crazy Anchor Handkerchief, Starbucks "Sailor Jerry Tattoo" mug, and Navy Knife with US Flag lanyard.

Now i hope to find some of these 'New Boyz" Navy knives. The Un-X-LD in Antique yellow bone sure has caught my fancy.

Congratulations on a great looking knife. I asked this earlier, and will give it a shot again here... why is there no Damascus in the long pull or swedge? The only thing I know about Damascus is there are different types of Damascus, but that's about it. Also, is there anything on the back of the tube?

Nope, nothing on the back of the tube, but the Damascus is on the long pull and swedge. Just the pics, I guess. Tried my best to capture it - I only have the iPhone6.

I just gave it a spa treatment. Washed, blow dried, 3-in-1 oil drop in joint, mineral oiled blade, and Boos Block Mystery Oil on the wood.

Good Looking Lone Star. Every Texan forumite needs one of these to be patriotic. Actually, i think the number is rather limited ?

There was only 25 of these made, I know of another who got two *cough*cough* as I did. Pretty sure they're all spoken for, but I cannot say definitively.

I have no idea about the commemorative edition amount left; however, I can say there are some of those left.
