Thanks for taking the time to address the baseless accusation Dan. Everyone who posted on the thread (besides the OP of course) saw this for what it appeared to be. I would watch out though, you are the one person on here that he has actually met and he seems to want to fight everyone tonight.

Thanks @VA Knife Addict!

I'm hoping Caleb comes around (not to the shop, but to the knife world in general). He's new to custom knives and didn't know what to expect care-wise (though since he sells cars you'd think he would understand the issue ... I even asked him what he would do if a customer brought back a new car with some cosmetic dings and scratches...) There's a learning curve when it comes to custom knives. I think he anticipated posting this thread and having everyone be shocked that there was a cost to returning a knife that had cosmetic damage. He's a pretty good guy in person (when he's not making a scene in the shop) and I hope once he cools down a bit he will see what happened for what it was.

You're a stand up guy, Daniel.

You handled this....difficult situation....with grace and dignity.

I think you've received some free advertisement after reading your response.

Kind of ironic, actually, considering the intent in which this thread was started for.

BladeGallery.com - A stand up shop owned by a stand up guy.

Very glad to see Daniel come here and speak up. Big thumbs up!
Been in business close to 40 years and sometimes, no matter what the £€^* you do, some people will never be happy.
I think Daniel came out looking like a stand up shop owner that I'd like to hand over my cash to!

So I guess the imperfect centering on that first knife was not a pivot tightness issue because you said you would return to the maker for repair. So if a customer had bought that knife online I guess they'd probably have been disappointed.

Thank you for your reply Daniel!
I am pleased to hear your side of the story!
I'm looking forward to checking your website.

As for the unhappy customer Caleb, you destroyed any
iota of credibility you had when you chose to exaggerate & enhance
your story, after playing 30? times with the knife.

As far as you threatening people... Tsk, tsk...

The "customer" played with the knife for an hour before buying it...
Maybe he made it off centre? Either way, he played, bought, got buyers remorse, returned, got a different knife, then started to make his own demands such as asking for 20% off each knife over $500.

Your insinuations against the dealer are unfounded.
The knife sent to an online customer may have never been taken out of the box...
People want new so they can open the package for the first time.
The apparently off center blade I guess would be a manufacturer QC problem.
I wouldn't be happy with a defective knife either...
But there were other options than smearing the retailers name across BF's.

In looking at it, both the maker and I think the pivot has just loosened. Unfortunately, the pivot uses a five hole adjuster that is proprietary instead of a torx or whatnot. I used to have the tool, but can't find it. The maker has suggested that I bring it to Blade Show and he'll be able to adjust it there for me. He's also going to bring me an extra five pin tool. (as a side note: I get why some makers want to use a pivot that can't be messed with by customers, but it misses the point that a pivot does need to be adjusted sometimes!)

Dan....

Everything you've said and done to date only reinforces why I'll continue to make purchases from Blade Gallery.....

Thanks for letting me know about the thread and thanks everyone for your thoughtful posts.

When we start getting into custom knives, it takes a while to understand that they are quite fragile ... They are strong if you are planning on edcing them, but keeping knives in new condition is surprisingly difficult. As I told the OP, it is very easy to cause some scuffs in anodized titanium while flipping it open and closed in a car while driving.

The OP came into my store and bought a custom knife. He spent 45 minutes to an hour going over 3-4 pieces in detail and picked one of them. He purchased it and we thought we had a happy customer. About an hour later, he calls because he feels the blade isn't well centered. We said to come on back and we'll figure it out. As best as I can guess, he had been flicking it a lot and the pivot loosened slightly. This said, I agreed to switch it out for a similar knife by the same maker that had a some filework on it (which raised the price by $15). He seemed totally happy with that. Then he changed his mind the next day.

Returns suck ... and we warned him right away ...

Thanks for making sense out of that guy's cockamamie story.

You're a class act.

Thanks KingMc! I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed our show. I'm looking forward to the 2017 show. It'll be nice to see you at the shop too!

Yeah, it was my first knife show and was well worth it, even though I hadn't planned on a purchase once I met Brad Larkin of Bradford Knives in person it was all too easy to buy one of his sweet Guardian3s. Your show was instrumental in kicking my knife purchases up a notch, and I'm glad of it. 10/10 would go again :)

As I read through the entire thread, I thought I recognized the name Blade Gallery, when looking for a specific Maker's knife. This thread only served to assure me that Daniel and Blade Gallery will be a great place and owner to deal with. Daniel, you still have the knife I want. I'm saving up for it now.

They are . I've been eyeballing a kiku fixed blade on there for awhile now . May need to scoop that up now that positive attention is being addressed to bladegallery.

^^^Matsuda San makes some nice knives! Thick blade stock, and pretty heavy, but still nice:thumbup:
