So far, I will say that,
►as far as "fit" goes. They are about equal. No real gaps on either. Springs are almost flat, but not quite, on both. No blade wobble on any of the blades on either knife. Equally smooth actions. Both were a bit stiff when I first got them, but both are smooth now, after cleaning, oiling and working the actions a bit. Spring strengths are about equal (4-5) on both knives.
►For "finish", the US Schrade has more nicely rounded corners on the bolster and springs. I used a Sharpmaker coarse stone to round the corners of the Taylor, and it's pretty good now. The original has a small swedge on the main blade, the Taylor does not. But the Taylor blade is thinner at that spot, so I'm not certain that a swedge was an option for them. (see crinking comments below.)
►I did some minor manila rope cutting comparisons to look at the steel performance. The Taylor is at least as good as the original. (Both last significantly better than Case Tru-Sharp, which I ran as a comparison point.)
►I was curious how Taylor would handle crinking the sheepsfoot. The Taylor is crinked a little, but mostly it is offset. The positive part of this is that the sheepsfoot blade comes out straighter, making it easier to use. The negative is that the blades are thinner. Neither knife has blade rub, but it is possible to cause the blades on the Taylor to rub together if you push hard against them while opening the knife. You cannot do that with the Schrade. I don't normally experience blade rub when opening either knife.

I might have more comments after I use them both for a spell.

Went to my secret honey hole on Friday and found this NIT. I will get some real photos soon. :D

I love that Canal Street!!

That is one of my favorite and most carried knives so far this year. How do you like yours?

i like it so much, i think i have to buy another one because one to stock, one to use. i do want the version with black scales and nickel silver/steel bolsters tho

Thanks for the kind words GT . I actually prefer to not have the73 with the Linerlock feature , but I was searching for the Best Stag that CK had in a 73 pattern. I believe that I got the best one there , but there is still one there that is verrrry close to it that is still there. Then again , the best Stag is the one that comes in the mail. I do have several Case Russlocks that I do use for dirty jobs and the lock feature is nice to have for that.

Harry
Thanks for your assessment of your new 73, Harry! :)

P, sweet 83s and I love the lanyards!
+5K! :thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you Gary!!! It's a grail knife that had eluded me for years.

...I was recently reminded about NASA's Swiss Army Knives that went into space. I had studied this topic years ago but the recent reading caused me to take a purposeful look into The Pile.

There, among some Vic Rangers was a Grail Knife.......

A model 1.4763 Master Craftsman dating from '87-'91 (it was also known as the Astronaut post '86). This was the Victorinox production model chosen by NASA to accompany our Astronauts into space and is revered by of both SAK and Space Program collectors.

Master%20Craftsman2_zpsnndw6hsu.jpg

...Having read that the NASA SAKs are issued before a mission and turned in after, this model with it's association with Space Program is as close I'll ever get to the real thing.

Pretty happy about this one. :D
W:eek:W, Robert, TWO grail knives in about a week!! Super Congratulations!:thumbup: You're "in a zone", as they sometimes say in sports.

Congrats on the impeccable Peanut, Bill!:cool: Is that stag?

Congrats on the superb 71, Jeff; looks fantastic with the lanyard!:cool:

I haven't gotten around to posting this Case Sodbuster Jr. in chestnut bone/CV yet... I think...

Major and Tony, those are a couple of very fine Cases!:thumbup: (I think I remarked on each of them earlier today in another thread. :D)

Nice little mail call...

Congrats, Frank, and thanks for the detailed comparison!:cool: Did you get the Schrade USA version recently, too, or have you had it stored away somewhere?

Congrats on the excellent knife, Ron! But what kind of shenanigans is this where you have a secret source for brand new 6-year-old knives??? Is time travel real?:D

this just came in for me ...
Congrats on the sweet copper KaBar, mrknife!:cool:

Hi 5K. I bought both specifically for this comparison.
"Sniping" is SUCH an ugly term.:D

Im a big fan of the USA schrades but I went ahead and bought a newer sowbelly. I'm eagerly awaiting it to see what the fit and finish is like. It was $8 shipped...

Just got this oldie in the mail today. 1972 sodbuster jr. The scale had a crack in it that I filled with some cut from sanding and superglue. Cleaned, buffed, oiled and sharpened. She's ready for the pocket

Thank Gary!! There does seem to be a convergence of fortunate circumstances lately.

My latest addition. I've been waiting for a 3.5" LC for awhile. This Dunlap checked all the right boxes.

Westinghouse Ivory Micarta.

That looks great. I think 3.5" is a great size for this pattern. I carry my LC Junior often.

GT - Thanks for the compliment on the 72. No shenanigans were involved, just a honey hole!;) Every good fisherman knows you never divulge the location of your best honey holes.
As for the time travel, yes it is real! When I traveled from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone my cell phone went from 3PM back to 2PM!:D
