Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

That is a gorgeous one, Bob! Kicked myself for missing it when it came up for sale a while back. At least i know it's in a good home!

Went to a local gun show this weekend. It was mostly your usual table after table of cheap Chinese junk and what few decent knives they had were way overpriced. I did walk out with a few knives though to fondle on the 2hr drive back home. A case russlock and a swayback, a Roughrider and a couple old Schrades. The Schrade walden I picked up for $10 and the Schrade Copenhagen I got for $40.

After some sales last week, I had enough to pay a couple bills and to treat myself to this beautiful Hiroaki Ohta Gunstock. Absolutely one of my favorites. Great stag, great execution of the pattern. Very comfortable with a smooth and solid walk and talk. Been a tough week for me or I would have posted pics sooner. I need to get some with better lighting to really show the workmanship.

Even more of that gorgeous stag, eh Bob? Glad to see your eye for knives is still ship-shape. :D That's a beautiful gunny, will we be seeing it on Stag Saturdays in the future? :)

The old Schrade was a great deal and I like how the Russlock looks in black. Interesting RR, too. Good haul! I'm looking forward to the upcoming "big" gun show here, though the same problems generally apply with the majority of the tables featuring CCC and the one or two dealers that have quality vintage knives are usually shooting for the moon with their prices. I managed to talk one down at the last show I attended after showing him a Barlow I had in my watch pocket and discussing slipjoints for a bit, however, so I hope that run of luck continues. :D

My newest addition happens to be my first GEC and first picture post. Picked this one up a few months ago on the exchange. Just got to open it for the first time three days ago. Love the Big Jack! It was a bear trap out of the tube but with a few days of carry and use its breaking in nicely. great information and folks here. Thanks everybody-

I just picked this one up for a very reasonable price, but know little about these Remingtons. 1995 made, pattern #R1273, round Remington UMC stamp. Anyone know what the steel is? Looks stainless, but what were they using then, and who built it for them? I appreciate in advance any info supplied.

I believe it was made by Cammilus and the steel is 440A; the Cammilus subforum may yield more info. This series started out as being replicas of the old Remingtons, IIRC some of the original tooling was used for some knives. The heat treat is good, I have a banana trapper that I use and it keeps a decent edge. Remington has a couple of web pages that list all of these series knives. Some of them had accompanying posters. Search on your pattern number/knife on the Remington site and you should find it.

Thanks, brownshoe, I appreciate the info. The steel really does have a good h/t, as it sharpened up easily and without any wire edges. It did NOT have that gummy feeling on the stones that SS sometimes does. Really nice bone, too.

StoneBeard Very nice jigged bone on an earlier GEC, is that Brimstone Bone or?

Harry Many congratulations on that very smooth Smooth Bone 85, nice red flecking to it.:thumbup:

Thanks, Will

In addition to the #18 Coyote in Osage Orange (which is perfect) , I added a Case Stockman in cv with ss punch to the order. Blade rub isn't anything I ever thought about until reading here, and it isn't something that's ever really bothered me. I imagine a lot of folks would send this one back. I can actually hear the tip of the punch scraping against the sheepsfoot! I decided to keep it as a "hard use" knife. It will pair well with the delicate little pocket scalpel in my watch pocket, and I'm just not worried about hurting it. (also, I already took a file to the kick to lower the sheepfoot

r8shell, looks like the perfect combination of blades to make it an extremely useful tool. Love the amber bone.
I'm thinking I'm gonna have to get one of those. Thanks for showing it, let us know how it works for you when you get a chance.

Thanks for the compliment! The big Jack is a 2008 in burnt grizzly cut bone. I was torn betwwen a few different options when choosing my first GEC but had to go with the grizzly as it brought me back to time I spent in Alaska. Like every GEC I've seen, pictures don't do it justice.

You know that drooly oafish moan that Homer Simpson utters?

Just picked up my forth Davison, holds me over until my custom order with him arrives. This one is a stunner, and in A2 steel, one of my favorites.
