Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

No Possums here ;) Plenty of Hares though... But doesn't detract from a fine new acquisition

Thanks Josh! I was very happy to land this. (Still meaning to call you, I've been whirlwind busy all week.). That copper looks great on the Proper. I kinda wanna regrind another one of those now...
I might give you a shot at it sometime.

Got this great little Colonial USA peanut this week.

Think this is the only Colonial I've ever had that's old enough to be USA marked, pretty sure all the rest that I have are marked Ireland.

Unfortunately the handle inserts are celluloid... :( Anyway I'm pretty sure they are, from the little research I did.

At any rate, they're coming off... one was off when I got it, and the other came off while I was handling it.

If it wasn't celluloid, or even possibly celluloid, I'd epoxy them back on... As it is, I think I'll be digging through my materials bin, I *think* I have some kirinite or similar that's a close match for the cracked ice patthern.

The pawn shop has been good to me again.

Robi Klaas congress, looks like its never been used. Looks like factory edges, sharp factory edges, yes I'm bleeding. Two more firsts with this one, first Klaas and first congress.

Queen #9 Winterbottom? Going to be a good user. Somebody's really scuffed up the sheepsfoot. But I have a couple concerns, first no tang stamps, just the blade etch. Is that normal for some of these? Second the main and sheepsfoot have a bit of side to side play. But I don't see a pivot pin, was any of these Swindon key built? Its not so bad that I won't drop it in the pocket and use it.
Also these follow a trend that developing in my collection, the mark and pile sides vary quite a bit in color.

I think it's good. :) From 1961-1971 the blades were etched, no tang stamp. I've never heard of Queen using Swindon key construction, but I don't claim to be an expert.

r8shell r8shell thanks! Once I got home I looked closer with a magnifying lens and can see a hint of a pin, I think. Think I'll give it a gentle squeeze with my padded clamp. Then peen the pin if it becomes more visible. Also looking close its definitely bone and not delrin, so must have been the last of it they had. From what I've learned so far they switched to delrin in the early 60's

That sounds like a good find, you don't come across the bone covered ones every day.:thumbsup:

2019 is off to a good start for me, too. :) I just got a gift in the mail from trevitrace trevitrace , a CaseXX Stockman. I gave it a good clean&oil and will sharpen it up this weekend. I think I'll do a little re-shaping on the sheepfoot, maybe even file the kick to drop the blade a little.

Not a new knife, but I decided to try some copper scales. I was curious to see how they'd patina and how much weight they would add. It definitely feel hefty in hand--heftier in pocket, but I don't mind that. In fact, I think I'll prefer the extra heft in hand.
Is that a Proper in copper?
I didn't know those were available. Where'd you pick it up?

Whew! Even though I just got some really nice pocket knives, and hit my knife budget of the month, I just couldn't let this slide by. I have my letgo account set up to alert me to posts with certain key words, "knife" being one of them. So when this popped up yesterday I made arrangements to meet the seller. You see I've been wanting a Uncle Henry Pro Hunter for over 20 years, ever since I seen my best friends way back in high school. The Pro is carbon steel. The 144 is a bonus to me, and when I showed pics to my friend earlier he really liked the 144. So it'll be a surprise in the mail as soon as I clean it up and sharpen it. The pics are as purchased, but in overall great shape. Sorry for the long post, kinda excited as simple as it is the pro has been a long sought for knife.:D:thumbsup:

Swinden was a schrade patent, nobody else used it. There are some things that have been similar like a system that colonial used. A good rule of thumb is most makers switched to delrin in the early 60's because of the decimating rogers bone fire around that time and they supplied most of the american market with bone. Delrin was new at the time and was a good bone substitute.

Thanks, after a gentle squeeze in my padded clamp the pin became visible and I was able to tighten and peen it. No blade play now:thumbsup:. The one I picked up is definitely bone, not only can I see the "grain" in it, but to double check I rub a piece of 1500 grit emory paper on the spine. That grit is so fine that all it will do is add a bit of polish, but its enough to smell the unmistakable odor of the bone. I was pleased to have picked up a really nice Queen #9 but really pleased its in real Winterbottom:cool::thumbsup:

Had a couple land in the mailbox today. A Remington R-4 in virtually pristine shape, until I put it to good use.

And then a little Victorinox Classic with the Marine Corps emblem on it. I have one just like it it I picked up on Camp Pendleton around 1990 but I’ve never seen them anywhere since then.
