Your opinions on Nutnfancy

I hate how everything he reviews has to have some use as a weapon or he gives it a crap review.

That is a dead giveaway that you don't watch his reviews. At least half of the blades he reviews and loves are small utility blades that he admits would suck as defensive weapons. Like I tell my son, you should try something before you decide to hate it.

He did one axe vid, no? It's arrogant to say for his system [long hiking trips with tons of other sh-t] an axe doesn't work, as he uses a sawvivor and large knife. He said for other systems an axe is fine. did you even watch the vid, or are you reiterating what others have said that likely didn't watch it either.

I saw the axe video and he had no clue how to use the axe, that is more than likely why he chops down trees (for no good reason, other than making videos) with knives. He should learn to use an axe before he gives his view of which is better. And as far as long hiking trips, he has a video where he is talking about how many miles he had to hike to get to the location where he was filming at, and if you listen to the background you can hear a car horn. He either has the worlds greatest mic on his camera or he was less than 100 yards from a road. Sounds like Bear Grylles styles BS to me. I think he's just a wind-bag. And as far as him being ex-Military, that hardly makes him an expert on knives or guns, I have an uncle that served 20 years in the Marines, and he's dumber than dirt. Ask anybody in the millitary, I'm sure all of them have served with an idiot or two.

I'm sorry, but you've just received the dumbass of the day award... have you seen "High skies"? Or ANY of his other outdoor vids? You SEE him leaving the road, he shows you the hike out there, all the surrounding territory, there are no cars around. If you think he doesn't really do all the things he does, then get to watching.

The only thing I think anyone should be able to argue with Nutn on his is opinions. Facts are facts, a video is a video. Some may think it's too long, and he each their own. You are saying that he's not doing anything, and is some sort of keyboard commando... when it's obviously not true :thumbdn: :jerkit:

It's the weight issue for his system he objects to for the most part. Again, he said for other systems axes are fine.

He chops down trees with knives to see if the knives will fail for the most part. You know, testing.

Most of the time I hear no signs of other humans in his vids, but you should know that when hiking, roads will sometimes be within shouting distance, so that's a specious point.

You know, as bashed-on as this may get me, I really owe my love of knives not only to my friend, but also to Nutnfancy. He showed me cool designs that work, and he also is an immense advocate for mid-range, high-value knives, which are really the only things I can feasibly buy at the moment.

I admit, he does seem a little puffed-up, and there's absolutely no doubt as to his long-winded approach to knife reviews, but hey, if you don't like him, don't watch him.

It's like all the reviews on BF. No one goes, "Hey, what do you think of DerekH's review?" or "What did you think of Adaman's latest thread?"

He's just another person to watch when you want information. He's a factor, not the conclusion itself.

No, You win the dumbass of the day award, and I think your the keyboard commando for calling a total stranger a dumbass because he doesn't hold your little hero in high regard. And he does have a video where he claims to be in the middle of nowhere with a car horn in the background, (maybe you should rewatch his videos and find it, I can't stomach sitting thru another one to find it for you) If it:jerkit: makes you upset because you're a big nut fan and have nothing better to do with your life but worship an idiot, I'm sorry that you have such a sad life. But I stick by my statement. He's a total whackjob.

I think knifetest.com does a better job of showing if a knife is going to fail, he puts them thru the ringer. Chopping down a tree doesn't show how far you can push a knife, it just shows how to kill a tree. Most people in a real world scenario (Camping, hiking, hunting or even survival) have little need to fell 10" diameter live trees, not even for shelter.

I think most campers and hunters and hikers have little need to bash their blades into bricks, but I do see the value in those vids.

Yeah that's why I like knifetest. He starts with stuff you really need your knife for, pealing an apple and processing firewood and slowly works his way up to doing stuff just to abuse the knife to see how far he can go before he destroys it. If a blade makes it thru 90% of his test, it's not going to fail you in most real world use.

My girlfriend caught me watching one of those vids, she said, "at least it's not that creepy guy from Cold Steel" :)

Genlemen, this is Bladeforums. We frown on personal insults, we restrict the use of the jerkit icon to Whine & Cheese, and we much prefer the discussion to remain on topic instead of about each other.

This thread may drone on for hundreds of posts, or I can close it anytime if it becomes a flame war. Your choice.

I call you a dumbass because you are judging something you don't know about. In that video he even says that you can hear a car horn, or it explained in the comments somewhere. If you care enough to look, go right ahead.

I could care less if you hold nutn in high regard. It's your opinion and I respect it, but not if it's against the facts. Another fact is, you just got pretty angry. Over the internet. To someone you don't know. Just because I view things differently. :thumbdn:

At least you're not a tool; you didn't change your opinion cause I had a separate one, like half the people out there do.

SO LET'S LET IT GO **handshake** **tips hat** good day to you, sir. The one thing we all agree on - knives are awsome, any way you look at it

First post after my warning ignored my warning. I'm not going to ignore that for long.

If you want to continue discussing Nutnfancy, stop discussing each other.

I did not know that. I may have made that mistake once or twice. Thanks for the heads up.

I'll answer my own question about the axe, since no the answer is forthcoming. At the start of the vid, he says he knows he's taking one axe for two jobs, but he wasn't going to hump two axes into the woods. Again, it's about YOUR PERSONAL SYSTEM, which the guy repeats over and over. He's not an axe basher.

I don't know why you think I got angry, I didn't. I just thought I'd reply, since you started name-calling. And I don't care if you like nuts or not, I only replied because you personally attacked me by calling me a "dumbass". But Forgetaboutit...

Sorry 'bout that. I wasn't in a very good mood, it's my fault. It's a bit depressing that Nutnfancy has become so controversial... compared to a lot of other reviewers out there... it might be more-so than even Bear Grylls. Really, it's almost like discussing politics! :p

EC, you win the 'bust my guts laughing' award for that post. I can confirm what you say, because I heard that car too. It was a WTF moment and I may be wrong, but wasn't it on that test of the Benchmade Nimravis that he took a chunk out of the blade on?

I'm not sure which video it was, but I only watched about 10 of his videos before I had enough. I did see one where he broke a chunk out of a blade chopping on a tree. And I saw the one where he tried to use an axe by chopping straight across the grain on half of his strikes, and guess what, he chipped the axe and blamed the manufacturer, even though he let the axe strike the ground a few times. I was in the market for a new blade at the time and was watching reviews on youtube, but I wanted to hear information about how great the knives are, not how great the reviewer thought he was. So I started watching other reviews and stopped watching his.
