ZDP-189 Lum Chinese folder.

It's nice when a knife company gives its customers what they want. Thanks for listening to us, Sal.

Green handles != girly. Thinking that black handles = manly? Childish.

Childish? How old are you? Actually, I wasn't referring to green at all, my post just happened to land in a bad place. I have a few knives with green scales. Also a few blue. I even have a tan one. Brown, grey, white, yellow and red don't bother me, I just don't own any. The other colors are the ones that bother me. For instance, I could never see myself owning a pink or purple handled knife no matter how awesome it is. Pink is a girly color. I'm sorry, it is. It's a color I've associated with femininity since I was an infant. My brain is hardwired in this way, thus urging me to speak up in defense of the classic black handle, which is practical. No offense to any women on the board, but it is widely accepted that in GENERAL, men are more practical, while women are more emotional. So, in conclusion - black is manly. Pink is girly. I'll take about 20 in black! Thanks Sal!

As far has handle color goes, it has already been decided - though I don't know if it can be announced as yet.

Oh, it's not a framelock titanium then..oh well..:barf: :( still want one!

If I remember right it, the details of it are as follows:

Solid, not Laminated, ZDP-189 Steel.
HAIII Almite Handles - Color is like a Gunmetal Green, think Surefire Flashlights.
Liner Lock.

Basically like the original Spyderco Lum Chinese Folder, but with Solid ZDP-189 Blade and HAIII Almite Handles.

In a way glad this has not come out yet as there are 2 other Spydercos I need to buy first.

This was the majority preference, though all results were submitted. The actual decision was Bob Lum's, and the production configuration is still TBA.

Now that would be awesome. The HAIII finish on my Surefires have stood up to some serious use and abuse. That would be a step above and beyond what most companies would do. But, on the downside, it would increase the cost significantly I'm sure.

Framelock would have really been nice as it exhudes an artistic simplicity that sets itself apart from the pack. I do like the Almite finish though. The knife looks elegant and, I am sure it will be a popular. I will have to have one.

My apologies Carlos. Carlos is correct as what I described was the majority preferance that was determined from early responses. The final decision will still be by Mr. Lum and Spyderco.

It is allright, I just want to avoid surprise or disappointment if Bob Lum's choice differs from the suggestions.

Are there plans to make any left handed ones?

Tom

Highly unlikely. A left handed liner lock would probably require new tooling to accomplish. It's not as easy as just drilling more holes, the liner would have to be reversed.

But I could be wrong...

They would also have to grind the rear of the blade tang for the liner lock to move in the opposite direction. Then there's the clip.

I guess Spyderco has spoiled me with so many excellent, lefty friendly, back locks. The back lock works so well for me that I don't have much interest in other types. I don't believe I've ever had a liner lock in my hands. I've played with compression locks (Gunting, Yojimbo), and a ball bearing (Dodo). I much prefer a back lock to either one.

Having said that, the Lum Chinese may be my first liner lock purchase, because it's such a great design.

I would love to see this made as just a Backlock, instead of a Liner lock. In my opinion the large cut-out for the liner is not as flattering as the backlock for the lines of this knife. Regardless, I think the combination of the Lum Chinese Bladeshape, Grind, and ZDP-189, will make for an outstanding cutting tool.
