ZDP-189 Lum Chinese folder.

Now I'm wondering if the lamination line would throw off the otherwise clean lines of the original. Maybe an unlaminated all-ZDP model is in order?

That maple and Damascus sounded realllllly good though.

All we need is a plain aluminum handle, then we can attach whatever we want. :)

I emailed Clay last night. :)

I'll take a PE with alu handle, color doesn't really matter as long as it's a new one (not blue or green to make a clear difference :) )

I like the color on the Mouse :)

How did I ever miss this thread. Thanks for giving me the heads up Blades. I would buy any Chinese Folder in ZDP189 but I would prefer the laminated steel as I think the lamination line would look great on that blade. As for the handle, I could live with black but I would prefer some shade of red or burgundy. Please not green or gunmetal blue. As much as I like these colours we need to differentiate this run from the previous variations. The problem with G10 and micarta is that I'm not sure it could be machined to accept the recessed liner lock. As Carlos pointed out, it is important that this run does not require new tooling otherwise we may have to wait as long as we did for the first one (remember that Blades?).

Burgundy handles with a laminated ZDP-189 blade. Kind of keep it as a theme with the ZDP-189 Calypso Jr.

Yes I think that would be my first choice too. I have a picture I picked up somewhere of an old chinese folder with a damascus blade. The multiple lamination lines look great on the blade and I think the single line of the laminated ZDP189 would look just as good.

When I made my previous post I forgot that the Military has a G10 scale milled out to except the recessed liner lock. However its liner extends to accept the clip screws, which could not be done with the Chinese Folder without major retooling.

Clay,
I remeber the long wait the first time. :) The cranberry color would be nice. But like I said, I'll be happy with any Chinese Folder sprint run. :)
Your right Clay, no new tooling, need to use existing stuff.
No telling what Mr. Glesser will do, maybe if we all mail Spyderco, and say "Please, please, please, pretty please??" it would help.
:)
I might have to dig out my Chinese folder fan club membership card. LOL

Just keep the interest going here. I'm gratified to see that we are on page 4 of this thread. Let's keep it going! :D

Here's a little HUZZAH for the cause!

Sounds like a winner to me. My preference is to have the lamination line and a different handle color to separate it from the crowd. I do like the blue and green if those were the only options. My only real color request would be to stay away from Black :thumbdn:

This color is fine with me. :)
But please lets stay away from the green and blue handle. We need something different for a sprint run.

Nice pic - just need to add a lamination line and a little gold spyderbug on the blade.

I hope this one will be high on a short list for 2006 :) . I don't really care what color it is.

I have too many knives. I have too little money. But I think I would still buy the above in ZDP-198. :D

I sure am interested. The lamination line on this blade will be beautyful. Great idea Carlos.

I don't know if Spyderco would do laminated or solid ZDP-189. The Delica will be solid. I would be fine with either. I would like to know why Spyderco veered away from laminated steel in the Delica.

I love it, but not the burgundy/pinkish color in the pics...sorry! This model with the laminated blade would be an extremely hot item for sure. Please count me in.

I will be getting at least one of these in the PE, I have been trying to get the older ones but have not had any success yet, if this happens maybe two for me, one to look at and one to use :D
