ZDP-189 Lum Chinese folder.

I'd be very interested in a sprint run of the chinese. Definately something I would buy.

hah, linear lock still... :barf:

Another lock would be nice, but we have to use existing parts, and what not. Beggars can't be picky. :) But if you don't like it, don't worry, there will(hopefully) only be 1200 made(maybe). :) Someone else will buy it. :)
Like me.

Blades

Well quite frankly, I would take most knives in ZDP, its a great steel.

Only thing I never liked was the look of the screws on the Lum Chinese Folder. Guess I just got use to Hex Screws.

Regardless, I think a Sprint run of Laminated ZDP-189 Lum Chinese Folders with the Burgundy handles, Gold Spyderbug on the blade, and a Black pocket clip with a Gold Spyderbug on it too, would be incredible.

While solid ZDP-189 would be nice the Laminated would be more in keeping with a Lum Chinese Folder as it would give the appearance of a Hamon line. The combination of the Burgundy handles and Gold Spyderbugs would give it that more classy look instead of the "Tactical" look so common among folders. This would be a knife you could EDC in your jean pocket to your suit pocket to accessorize it.

In closing, I think the combination of ZDP-189's qualities combined with a Lum Chinese Folders edge geometry would make for a knife with supierior cutting ability. Add in the nice visual looks and limited availability and I have no doubt that the whole Sprint Run would sell.

Pretty Please...

Actually the one thing I truly dislike about the ZDP Calypso is that black clip. It just doesn't do it for me at all. I love the Calypso, I love clips, I like the gold bug, but I hate the black clip on that color knife so much I took it off and have carrried the Caly loose in my pocket every day since I got it.

Some day I'll buy an unpainted Cricket or Caly clip from Spyderco and all will be well in the universe again even if it doesn't have the gold bug on it. ;)

I'll admit I'm a fan of the ZDP Caly in all but its colours. :barf: We'll have to have a separate Almite colours thread, as there is just way too much support for burgundy in here. ;) If anything I'd argue we need a new colour to separate it from the other ZDP runs. Blue ZDP Delica. Burgundy ZDP Caly. _____ ZDP Lum Chinese.

Seems to me that this if done will be a higher end model so why not give it Ti scales and Ti clip. They would give it a classy Grey finnish and hold up to EDC much better than Alum.

If all this does not get to Sal, I don't know what will. I am saving my money for this one! :)

I'm with Henry Ford on this one :

Sooo...do we have concensus on a color?

And I need your opinions on laminate vs solid.

I'm fine with burgundy (and a polished or blasted clip -- not painted black!) :)

Blade: leaning towards laminated just for the fun of it. :)

Edit: And, in a perfect world, a "SEKI CITY, EARTH" stamp :D

I don't care what color this is made in as long as it is made.

I don't care whether is is laminated or solid ZDP-189 as long as tested toughness is similar. If either is tougher in testing, that is the one I want.

I want Torx fasteners. Not phillips heads. Not hex. Torx please.

By the way Sal, you RULE!

G'day Sal,

There does seem to be quite a lot of support for burgundy, sorry Carlos :p. I personally would prefer the laminated blade, I think the lamination line would look terrrific.

take care,
clay

I'm fine with burgundy. I kind of like the way a laminated blade looks because it lets you know it's special. It definitely is not a bad thing.

Clay, I need your phone number.

I emailed you earlier but haven't heard back. If you get a chance, email me.
