Zt 0452cf

Mine arrived today. Amazingly sweet flipper action. Tried to touch the needle sharp tip but couldn't do it. My tolerance stack up is safe and sweet. I was a little worried given what I've been reading.

When you say "tolerance stack up" are you talking about the blade length when closed, and the issue of sometimes cutting people? Has ZT addressed this issue? Excuse my ignorance of some knife terminology. Thanks.

Honestly i dont think there is an "issue". My 0452cf tip is almost to the end of my handle and it LOOKS like it could cut you but trust me i have tried and it just isnt happening. I mean if i pinch the tip of my pinky and shove it into the handle slabs i might have something to worry about but if you dont want to get bit keep your hand out of the gators mouth and you will be fine.

Your flesh really has to melt in between the liner and cover for any kind of contact with tip.

Tolerance stack up is a design and manufacturing term. Every part made, including knife blades, has an associated tolerance, or how far the physical object is from perfect correspondence with the nominal design. Is it longer, shorter, thicker, thinner, is the pivot hole mislocated slightly up, down, etc. When you have a number of parts being assembled together, their individual dimensional variations can interact. Maybe the blade is a tiny bit long, but the slight mislocation of the pivot hole brings it back towards nominal. Or makes it worse. Tolerance stack up.

After playing with mine for a few days, I've noticed that it is very sensitive to any pressure on the lockbar. With my fingers off the lockbar, I get a great flip. If I'm touching even lightly, the action changes noticeably.

Any manual flipper relying on the detent setup to store sufficient energy to flip open without wrist action is usually going to be pretty sensitive to pressure on the lockbar. Its completely normal. The only manual flippers that this doesnt happen are those that by design have weaker detents.

Certainly not the case on mine. I have cut both my finger and thumb reaching for the knife, without using much pressure. I have handled a few other 0452cf models at a knife store and they did not have this issue. I'm guessing a few like mine slipped through with the blade a touch too long, but I'm sure the vast majority are fine. ZT is always willing to fix any issues so I'm not at all worried.

man i just hate it when knives are designed with a tip that close to the edge of the handle like that in the closed position, im not a picky guy when it comes to fit and finish or centering issues but that knife tip handle thing really bothers me. i still want one, but not as bad as before.

Cool knife but I wish they'd went with 204P instead of S35V..after using the Green 204P Para2 and Brown S35V Para2..IMO S35V is a decent steel but 204P is a step up..

They make the 0454 in 204p. Russian version.

Nothing a little sharpening can't fix. Real knife users sharpen their knives. I've seen way too many pictures of peoples knives with them stating it's their every day carry, yet the blade still has that factory edge. Heh.

From what I understand, the ones with the tip too close to the edge are just a few that slipped through QC, and most are fine. If you are on the fence, I would still recommend getting one. This is one of the nicest knives I have ever owned, and I've owned a ton.

Mine is pretty much broken in and I'm loving it. One of the best production releases of the year imo

Excellent explanation. Thank you! That helps a lot.

How stout is the tip on these? Is it thicker than say a spyderco military? I prefer longer blades but I also like a tip a little thicker than a military.

I am really loving mine. At first I didnt think my knife was not as smooth as many were reporting. But I discovered the pivot was cranked extra hard. It was smooth but the blade didnt just drop down under its own weight. I did a tear down, relube and assembly and made sure to dial in the pivot and loc tited it to keep it in the sweet spot. Almost lost a finger as the blade now drops like a guillotine.

To me this means nothing. I have quite a few daily carries that appear to have the factory edge. Its called a strop. I am most times satisfied with the factory edge and I simply touch them up after a few days of use. I see no need for me to reprofile every single knife I own if the factory edge is sufficient for my needs. Also there are tons of people who sharpen on a belt grinder or a worksharp. So you may not always be seeing a factory edge. Pics on a forum rarely paint the whole picture. I know when I take a picture of a beat up knife I am not trying to make the scratches and dings apparent unless I am selling it.

Received mine last Thursday from HoB. Great knife. Strong detent but that's ok with me cause it just flies open when the detent is broken. Only issue so far is that within about 3 minutes of handling I noticed a crack in the carbon fiber near the captured nuts for the pocket clip. Trying to work it out with Zt so I don't have to ship it back to them or at least have them cover the cost since I feel it shouldn't have left QC.

You should still want one. It's a hell of a production knife and IMO one of the best releases of the year. Oh, and it's only March haha.

If you happen to get one of the few with a longer blade, ZT will fix it for ya.
