Zt 0452cf

Just to clarify about my 0452CF, the closed blade does not extend past the end of the scales, but is so close to the end that it can easily - and accidentally - be touched.

I had this same problem with a Benchmade HK 14205. Great knife, nice blade, and the right size for EDC. However, when I would reach for it, the blade would cut my fingertip. I tried to work around it, but just couldn't make it work, so I sold it. I am going to give the 0452CF a try though. Tip down carry should be fine.

Its not drilled for tip down. I have tried pushing my finger tip to touch the blade either the guys doing it have tiny fingers or are way softer than mine, just saying....

I received a 0452CF today. Awesome knife in most respects. But the knife cut me pretty good when it was closed. The blade is just a shade too long for the scales, and if you extrude any manflesh between the scales near the tip of the blade, it will cut you with no prob. I was sliced - quite easily - by just reaching down to extract the knife from my pocket.

This is a design flaw.

I considered returning it. But this is an otherwise mighty sweet knife, so I'm going to send it off somewhere to get it slightly reprofiled to shorten the blade just a shade. And maybe cerakote the blade. Who knows. That will do the trick.

I tried for 5 min to get close enough to cut the tip of my finger with no success. You are the first i have seen to post about it. While unfortunate, I hardly consider one case a design flaw. Lots of ways to rectify the issue if yours is indeed that close to the edge of the handle, but i think the blade to handle ratio is fantastic on this knife. Post up some pics if you get profiled & coated....would love to see how that turns out!

No problem with my tip, its close but fine.

Just waiting for the video where you show us how hard the detent is and your fingers are clearly riding the lock bar and you flat out deny it.

Have you tried flipping it with your left hand?

Of course i have, order of kai fan boy.

The blade is close on mine but no problem. I also tried to run my finger across and resulted in no trip to the emergency room or even a need for a bandaid! While the detent is firm on mine it's no problem what so ever.

I'm thinking this might be my favorite ZT and I have a few. I might need a couple more because I can tell this bad boy will get a bunch of pocket time. I wish I would have been able to score a couple of the ZT 600s.

Looking at mine compared to PeteG's using the top of the pocket clip for a guide to angle of the handle you can see on Pete's were his tip does not even get past the standoff at it's largest diameter where it contacts the handle slab. On mine it extends about to the standoff at it's largest diameter, maybe a touch further.

If I rub the flat of my finger over it perpendicular to the length of it, I can't get it to touch unless I really pushed hard, but parallel to the length of my finger, with even medium pressure I could cut myself easily and between working in a fab shop and the field no one has ever called my hands soft.

Im not saying its not possible but these knives are mass produced not one offs so I doubt there is any difference in where the tip falls they are all cut out the same. Its hard to tell from a picture just what angle it was taken from. Just my thoughts I cant say for sure I dont have more that one to look at.

It does seem unlikely they would vary, so it could just be the angle it's hard to estimate the same angle from a photo. I'd imagine everything is precisely machined aside the final sharpening.

Maximize blade:handle ratio = people complain about possibly catching their finger on the tip
Fail to maximize blade:handle ratio = people complain about wasted space and poor design

Weak detent = people complain about poor flipping action and blade retention
Strong detent = people complain about how difficult it is to flip and how much it hurts their fingers

I happen to firmly be in the "strong detent/maximum blade:handle ratio" camp, and my 0452CF checks both of those boxes. I'm almost glad KAI doesn't monitor this forum anymore because I wouldn't want them to change anything :D

I agree 100%!!! :D

I wonder how much input the designer (Sinkevich) has on things like detent (strong/weak), clip size and such.

Great knife, and cheap enough to actually use. I will get one in due course, though I can wait to see if I can snag one a little cheaper. If they bring out a variant in M390 (or equivalent steel) and perhaps some texturing on the Ti scale, I would buy that too. There's a lot they could do with this platform - I think this could be at least as popular as the 0800.

Fromrussiawithknives has a 204P version. Go to their website and search 0454.
