Looking at Chalies knife, it doesn't matter if it has a bail or not to me. If everyone decides a bail, I think it should be a quality one with a pin, not a pressed in one.

Given a choice, I would prefer a lanyard hole to the bail. But I feel the Ebony EO is looking real good!:D:thumbup:

Bail, lanyard nole or neither - I am not particularly fussed - but I tend slightly towards the neither :)

I agree, if a bail, a good one :)

Jigged bone EO Teardrop Jack with Matchstrike pulls. :)

Agreed :)

Can I ask what does Matchstrike Pulls mean?

EDIT: Should have searched 1st of course: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=8617160 I have a couple Rough Riders with that style cut out, not that long though.

I would prefer no bail, they get caught on things easy in a pocket/bag and you're stuck with it even if you don't want it, or 2 useless holes.

A lanyard hole would be great though, nothing gets caught on them and it looks fine with a lanyard or not :)

A matchstick pull is when there's little ridges in the pull notch.

I'd like to throw one more option into the hat if its not too late.

An English Jack!

I am thinking a sheepsfoot main blade with a small secondary pen blade right next to it. It could have long pulls and be around 3.5 to 4 inches.

I cant wait to see where this goes. Last year I was only beginning to look back into traditional knives, and this year I am certainly getting in on the fun forum knife!

I like all the ideas so far!

Teardrop EO with a punch and jigged bone looks good to me (My original vote was for a trapper, but I think I can be easily swayed).

Edit: With lanyard

How many "slippies" in the big sceam of things have a Bail???;)

NOT MANY!!!:D

NO bail :grumpy::barf:

I like where you're headed. Chestnut Jigged bone, easy open, teardrop jack with matchstrike long pulls, a wharncliff secondary blade and lanyard hole would be pretty nice.

Precisely why this one (our very special and unique 2011 knife) should have one... ;):D

I lean towards a bail, but it that is not in the cards, I would rather NOT have a lanyard hole.

I agree. From a traditional standpoint I would say no bail or bail. An old EO would not have a lanyard hole. I think anyways.

You are right, Steve!!

The only EOs with bails generally, were the Navy knives; Rope blade and Manicure tool. Of course there were special purpose odd exceptions.
Lanyard holes are very rare on any older knives, often hunting styles.

I have a suggestion. Last year (2010) we were nearly equally divided between jigged bone and ebony. I asked everyone to back jigged bone this year for those who narrowly missed their first choice of bone last year, and a lot of you are remembering your brothers!
So, when we get there, let's design the 2012 specifically for a bail! Some kind of utility, or hunter, and skip the bail this year.
We can only build one knife at a time, but by and by, we can build them all!!:D

I really like the idea of an EO with spear blade similar to what Charlie showed.

I also like the idea of a cap lifter for the secondary, but a blade would be OK too. If it's a blade, I would like to see a sheepsfoot, or similar shape, not a pen blade, which always just seems like a smaller spearpoint to me. I like 2 completely different blade shapes.

With or without bail makes no difference to me. I can't imagine that a bail would add much to the cost, and they are very easy to remove if you don't like them.

Personally, I don't really care if the final design is a copy of a pattern that has already been commonly produced. Having a different, or extra, feature just makes it more unique.

I am looking forward to hearing what Bill a GEC comes up with. Hopefully it will not be a tiny little 3 inch but closer to 3 3/4 inch.
Greg

Bill said he will quote us a price to do one, but would prefer to do it just as that knife is patterned. Nice wide spear, and a pen blade. 3 5/8" EO, (long enough for you Greg?).
Jigged bone handles. He can come up with an in-house Jigging (winterbottom or ??) that would be special for our knife.

Chris, Campbell and Andy, please don't think I'm stepping on your toes. Bill's an old friend, and I have another deal going with him, so I brought it up. The rest is up to you guys!:o
