Given the chance, Mick Strider always does right for his customers.

Very interesting thread, someone was given a gift and sold it [I thought selling a gift was a felony:p :D ] and the new owner had some issues that he took here first (see line one)

Some times I wonder why Mick Strider cannot get a fair shake.......................

When you're at the top, all eyes are on you. That is why, sir. ;)

I sure did learn a lot from this thread.

First I'd like to say that Mick's designs got me into knifemaking. I'll always dig Striders because of that, but I refuse to "blindly follow" if that's the correct term. After reading Mick's first post, I was kind of bummed out... it was like seeing someone in a different light and I was wondering if he had a real bad day.

Then I came to understand the situation better. It would seem that this is NOT a factory second knife because it was never sold by Strider. It was given to someone. Whoever along the road first made money off of this "gift" deserves some bad karma unless the money ended up getting his ass out of a jam. If the knife was represented as new and the uniqueness (lol) of the knife was concealed, they suck too.

I basically learned why individuals and companies do not sell or give away their flawed products. It's because people might, at some point, assume that the flawed product was meant to be passed off as a normal one.

Think about that. You make widgets and one of them came out banged up. A buddy says... "HEY! I could REALLY use that widget bud!" and so you give it to him. What do you do? Have him take a blood oath never to sell it or do you think... hey... he's a bud so "here you go man"

then he sells it ( :thumbdn: on the action, not the person)

somewhere a dealer gets it and charges what appears to be close to full price. (hmm...)

then you see someone think "hey, the uniqueness could make it more valuable" and offer more than it was purchased for. Okay, that might explain the dealer's price.

Either way... MAKERS! Take this as a warning that people may assume your sub-par knives that are NOT sold to the public initially MAY EVENTUALLY be sold to the public and things like this could happen. Hopefully, should you choose to be cool and still let your cosmetically flawed pieces out, you will be informed of threads like this.

For what it's worth, I don't think Midget had any ill intentions. He clearly expected a FACTORY NEW knife and that's not what he got. This makes me think the dealer didn't CLEARLY represent the nature of this knife.

Someone dropped the ball here and some people need to realize it might not have been intended to be played with in the first place!

You guys can think of Mick or anyone how you want to. I'm not playing defense here. Just realize that he didn't make any money off the knife and is offering to "make it right" for basically the cost of postage. Again, now I know why some makers don't give away their flawed pieces!!

cheers

That was a long post so I'm going to repost what I feel is the important part so another maker doesn't get called out, especially in a location he doesn't frequent (and this is NO snipe at Midget, poor guy)

I have many Striders , I also recieved recently from Mick a Strider BRO knife ( Strider AR ). It rocks , I could care less if it wasn't purfect ( but it sure as heck is  ) why ? cause it was gift from the folks at Strider to me .

Sell it ? NEVER !!!
Use it ? Oh yeah... and allot !!

Maybe we all learn something from this , you have an issue , make an EFFORT to contact SOMEONE to get it resolved.

Midget said he was too lazy to call with Strider or Steel Addiction but he had the time to take the pictures , post them and make the initial post along with a few follow up posts. doesnt add up.

I have 5 Striders , each one is special , 2 are Extremely special.
all 5 are as purfect as I want them to be. :)

Midget, I find wisdom in your own words. Why does someone like you for instance take something like this and smear it on the net, and not deal with the maker directly. I think it is BS. if you ask me. I guess it does belong on bladefourms, which seems to be full of BS these days Chris

imho some very informative info in this thread, i have certainly learned a lot from it, an "eye opener" for sure.

Howdy,

Kind of stumbled onto this and I am unclear of Midget's first post that started this thread.

If I spent $300 plus dollars on a knife and found these flaws I would be beating down the door of the dealer who sold it to me. That is assuming the dealer would not allow me to view the knife before the purchase. In that event I would have never bought the knife from that dealer.

On the other hand, if I purchased the knife from an individual I would have walked away before closing the sale. I would not have handed the person my money if I found defects that were this disturbing to me.

With that I am unclear as to your post in this "General Knife Discussion" forum.
Is it that you simply want to find fault with a knife? I do not know if you have ever been involved in manufacturing a product, but during the manufacturing process things don't always go right. Good manufacturers weed out items that don't meet their standards before the items get to the public. PERHAPS, this knife was one such item. PERHAPS, this item was sold at a discount/second because it did not measure up.

I am grateful for all the factory outlets that sell slightly off goods. You can pick some items up at these places at a real savings.

But, again, I am unclear as to your original post. I would feel foolish spending that much money on a knife I was that unhappy with. PERHAPS, you could share with us who wronged you in your transaction. I will be happy to stand beside you while we work this wrong out and get your money back from the dealer.

I would like to know who the seller is that mislead you in the sale so that every member here on BladeForms will not have to go through this.

Additionally, I own a few Striders, as well as hard use knives by other makers. They are generally used hard beyond their normal expectations. I don't mind some of the items you found on your knife, but I'm not trying to dress them up either. If they perform, I could care less if they were pink.

That is the point isn't Midget? If you're going to work the knife, then cosmetics don't matter much. If your going to collect and evaluate, then let's find the dealer that screwed you, get your money back, post his name here so our other members won't get screwed by them, and then get the knife to Strider to see what they do for us.

I personally have seen some beautiful custom knives made by Mick Strider, and I have used some fugly utilitarian knives made by Strider. I have been completely satisfied by both knives and the value they've delivered.

Thank you Midget for bringing this concern to our forum. I look forward to see how it is reconciled. It is important, as in any community, to provide product knowledge that will benefit its members. You know as well as I do that too much trash gets passed around in this "electronic" age we live in.

Please keep us in the loop as to how you get this resolved. PM me if you would like me to do any leg work, or make any calls. I believe most of the members here are curious how this plays out.

When did I ever say that I don't like Strider knives?
I have nothing against Strider knives, and until yesterday I had no ill feelings toward Mick Strider.
Feel free to research my previous posts here on the forums--you will find that I have no "agenda" against Strider.

But the reaction from Mick Strider has changed my views of him and I will not give him my support.

And it seems that some folks already have it as a fact in their mind that this knife was a "gift" that was resold.

From Krept:
"Then I came to understand the situation better. It would seem that this is NOT a factory second knife because it was never sold by Strider. It was given to someone."

Mick himself never said that was definitely the case concerning this particular knife, he merely stated that some knives are given to certain people.

One of the funny things here is all the talking tall, and all the Im a secret ninja with a ID card so my oppinion is valid here is my credentials so im qaulified to tell you about knives rhetoric. Most of the posts here I agree have been a waste of time but the reason was most of the folks here chose to be cheerleaders and try to defend the undefendable. Maybe a couple of you guys have even earned a free t-shirt but you failed miserably at understanding the issues here. If you dont get it fine, you didnt learn anything fine. Talk is great if you can back it up but if you cant its talk. A reject knife is a reject and I said before " stamp the tang NOT FOR SALE " end of story. For some of you guys claiming to be ex-military and active duty, have you ever heard the term " Prevenative Maintenence", Its not magic like knowing the future its simple commen sense like guesing potential problems before they happen and taking action to prevent them from biteing you in the @$$.
