A Destruction Test Knife WIP

Adam - I'm going to try to find someone who can take a video. I'm not much of a high-tech guy and I don't even own a cell phone.... much less one that can record a movie, but I'd love to have a video of this.

don't do it!!!!

Baby Jesus will not be happy to see such a beauty be destroyed

The snake that lives in my garden and talks to me, told me to tell you to....

SMASH IT!

Reluctantly subscribed. I just hate to see a beautiful blade like that ruined. But as Rick said...

SMASH IT

hi
the knife is very nice.. and i'll join the others giving it a thumbs up to save it
-not that i don't believe in destruction testing, it has its place

theres no shame in testing it through time..used on countless adventures and everyday tasks

or to give the future owners of it their chance to enjoy it

afterall it is a " custom knife "

The whole thread was a great WIP but the underlying issue is the test and destruction , which we all await.

+1. It'd be a shame to wreck that knife.

Just an update. No, I'm not wimping out on this, I'm just arranging for some testing to be done.

I managed to find a force gauge to show the amount of force needed to bend the blade to 90 degrees. Also, tomorrow I go to the Cape Breton University - Metallurgical Sciences Lab to get the blade hardness tested. I'll post the results. After the destruction test is completed, I'll be bringing the knife back to the lab where the blade's grain structure will be analyzed(if it chips or breaks).

I will be doing the test this weekend.

No one would hold it against you if you made a second blade with the same specs with less detail work and destroyed it. IMHO I know you set out to destruction test it, but you went so far in detail in making the knife and inspired folks with the quality of knife made with the tools you use . Can't you just make another blade , simplified for the test if not lets get with the smashing.

Duffy - I like the knife. But, its not "right".
I can't sell it. I'd rather not give it away and have it out there as a representation of my work. And, I have enough knives of my own.

La destruction will commence on Saturday!

Too cool! Love the knife by the way. The lanyard contraption is...everything is very well done. Well except that hole I can't see, and the handle alignment I can't see either.

Now smash that sucker. One more reason to look forward to the weekend.

Can you have the microscope work done even if you don't break or chip it?

really awesome work, nice of you to photo each detail to share with us. Damn shame you have to destroy it, but it is the mission you set out to do for yourself. Best of luck!

We must maintain the possibility that the knife will excel in every aspect of the testing. It will cut like a Ginsu, chop like a Gransfors, slice like a Katana, shave like a Gilette and bend like a reed in the wind.

Infact, I expect nothing less...... no pressure, my friend.

smash it.

Rick
