I agree. No harm, no foul.

welcome to BF ed!

take care,
brett

Ragingwolf66, welcome to Bladeforums.

I admire your loyalty to your friends. I think in this case that loyalty is misplaced, but I am glad you realized you were a dupe in this process. I know it hurts. I've been played by people I thought were friends too, in the past.

Like Brett said, you do seem like a decent guy. So, for me personally, as far as you are concerned, let's wipe the slate clean and start over from here.

Best,

~Brian.

Well said Brian.
Welcome to the Forums Ed, your slate is clean from this time forward, Unless, you know what mean.

Gentlemen and Ladies of the Mantis Militia:

Though we faced some strange adversity in some of the forums, the Mission was a complete success thanks to YOUR hard work and persistince.

Total BS.

The moderators of the forum did not like the fact that I asked you to speak your mind about the Mantis Brand. They called it “shilling.” But you did it anyway. And for that I thank you! You will be rewarded.

Shilling it was.

Though there were dozens and dozens of posts made. There were a few individuals who showed a MAJOR amount of loyalty. These three Mantis Militia Members are

Edward Reuther of Troy, Montana

Eric Baxter of Boyne City, Michigan

Ray Gilman of Fullerton, California

You three gentleman have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and for this, your reward is THE KNIFE OF YOUR CHOICE from the MANTIS KNIVES LINEUP.
Pick a knife, any knife…it’s yours.

Paying out to three shills and becoming a laughing stock. Yep, that's successful alright.

Very Truly Yours,

Jared West
Founder- The Mantis Minutia

Jared, you're definitely three bricks shy of a load.

..........

Yes, I got the knife, I didnt go bragging about it. It was kind of back door that enderwiggin had to post the way he did. I posted about a knife company that helped a police department. I posted when my friend asked me to speak about his product.
. . .
Have a great day...

Ed

You're right. I'm sorry I outed Jared's future plans to continue the shilling campaign that he made a public apology for less than a week later.

I suppose it made his apology seem two-faced.I should have waited to see if he went ahead with Charlie-One.

The last thing I would want is to seem underhanded and deceitful.

In all seriousness though, I've seen a lot of pyramid schemes, scams, and underhanded marketing, especially in the area Mantis Knives is based. Seems like a hot zone for it.

I guess you can't blame people for believing in something that sounds like a lifetime opportunity. I would have loved to be in on the ground floor with a company like Spyderco--meaning closely connected to customers, not comparing quality or design philosophy--and help promote their designs.

It's just that with a company like Spyderco, Sal let the designs market themselves, and the customers came because the quality was there. Mantis had the chance to do the same thing, and it's sad to see Jared take the dishonest direction, bordering on running a scam instead of running a company.

I appreciate enderwiggen's post. It showed us just what a scuzzball Jared really is.

Ed, I hope your future on bladeforums is a pleasant one. Stay away from crap like went on in the Mantis spamming campaign and I think you will be a good addition to the community.

Thats exactly what I would do. I joined knife forums to meet and communicate with like minded people. I made a huge mistake by Posting about what was a good deed In a what turned into a spam a thon. I am guilty as charged. I should have known better. I still like the Mantis product line, and still consider JW a friend. I made a mistake, and can admit it. I am sorry for offending so many in what was initially a short sight on my behalf.

Hopefully you are sincere with all of this. It's admirable that you stick up for a friend, sticking up for your mates is something that's very firmly embedded in my culture too so I recognise it for what it is. Unfortunately, it seems, you've been conned by a sociopath who has used you to further his ends. I very much doubt he gives a rat's backside for you other than as a shill to spam his stuff.

If you want to continue here on the forum I'm sure you will find it rewarding as long as you DON'T talk about your scumbag "friend" or his knives. His reputation here is shot, completely. If you like his knives, fine, if you still think he's a friend, fine, but I suggest you keep it to yourself while here on BF.

Yes I will continue to post here. I am a Knife enthusiast. I EDC my Emerson CQC-7a, and Strider (BLG) SMF Tanto #075, as well as many Spydercos, Boker Plus (Chad Los Banos designs) a Miltner-Adams, and a few Customs(Dave Cole, David Farmer). I have way more knives than I will ever need, but will never have enough.
I have learned my Lesson about spamming, and you wont see me taking part in something that could even be perceived that way again.

Thank you

Ed

That's the ticket, that's the way to restore your reputation here.

Let's start again:

Welcome to Bladeforums.

Unbelievable.

I sit here reading all this, and I think to myself, if this guy just played it straight, kept consistent product details, cooled the hype, and acted as an honest broker, his success would have only increased. Now he has been exposed for the unscrupulous actor, to put it kindly, that he is.

Anybody know the editor over at Blade?

Man, this is too bad this situation wound up like it did. When I stopped by the Mantis booth at SHOT show this year, I didn't expect it to lead to this.

Too bad.

Pretty sad when you think about it. All the guy had to do was sign up here as a dealer or maker or whatever and he could have promoted his stuff like all the other legitimate guys do but, his first instinct was to go the slimy way. Now his rep is shot and he's lost lots of potential customers!

Such is life!

I just checked out his ebay store again, He has edited the (Kershaw Killer) (Sog Killer), and (CRKT Crusher) for less "industry offensive" descriptions.

I haven't read all the posts from here, I just wanted this one saved...

Just got back from a great BBQ and poker night with friends. Showed them this thread, and they were amazed, especially when they got to the last 4 pages or so. Since RW has said he is going to stay on the forums and attempt to play nice, I will refrain from more criticism.
However, I will respond to his post directed at me.

Douche bags...I havent spoken like that since the 3rd grade.
I served in the military for 20 years to protect democracy...
Ed
If you were in the military for 20 years, I'm going to guess you did speak like that on occasion.

Douchebag Huh? are you even old enough to know what that really is???
Ed

Yes I am, and yes I do. Judging by the number of years of your claimed military service, I would guess we're about the same age. I called you a douchebag. I could have chosen one of several adjectives, I happened to use that particular one. Are you in fact a douchebag? Of course not. just like when you call someone an asshole, you're not claiming they really are, or look like a sphincter. But most people get the meaning.
Why did I call you that? You claimed you weren't in it for the knife, yet you received one, and you say you're a friend of his. Doesn't seem ethical. If you weren't in it for the knife, give it to someone else.

Honestly I dont believe any of you would speak that way to anyone in public.
Ed

I do, to my detriment or benefit. I speak my mind.

I plan on being at some of the shows in the next year or so. Look for the shaved headed guy with the goatee, standing 6'7" weighing 325 with a size 16 shoe. You cant miss me. Come say hi to me in person and see if you still want to sling shit in my eye. I will gladly shake your hand.
Ed

Okay. Maybe we can even swap shoes. I wear the same size. You posted afterward that you didn't think it was a threat. Although slightly veiled, I perceived it that way as well, but no big deal. If I see you at a show, I will definitely shake your hand. You have mentioned other knives and interests in different threads that I see some shared interest we could discuss (besides being the same size). Works for me.

Now I am done with this. I too, welcome you to the forums.

Rik
