About the hate for Survive! Knives.

The naysayers don't realize Survive! was Never able to deliver knives in a timely manner. From day 1 there were delays. The excuse explanation then was "Guy was the only person who could sharpen the knives to his exacting standards". Hence a slow trickle of completed knives.

Turning the business around infers getting things "Back on Track". Survive! is doing things the way it has from the start.

Millit has a Nampa Id address and a web page.
Sure, now. They were at the address survive is at now, same one as the demill works link above. What I'm saying is that survive moved in with millit and partnered up and that was a disaster. Survive now occupies their old shop and millit is ruined. I wouldn't trust either company.

And guess what, we predicted that the relationship would end disastrously for millit, and it did. No doubt some shady shit went down, as it always does with those con-artists at survive. But hey, so long s they get theirs, right? Survive just keeps surviving off the skin of others. Funny because that is exactly how their customers think too...

Just curious, but why would you not trust Millit?

Obviously I'm not a frequent poster here. Or even a frequent lurker. I don't know if I've ever posted here at all, maybe I just made an account once to use the search function, I don't remember.

I ordered a GSO 5.1 six years ago. SIX (6)!!!

I just received it yesterday. Opened the box today. It is, for me, probably the finest, highest quality object I have ever held in my hand. Every angle perfect, every seam flush. Even the little teeny angles at the very tippy tip are perfectly symmetrical. It shaves hair off my arm. Upgraded to Magnacut steel without charge, which from what I've read it maybe the best overall knife steel in history. I'm pretty sure I could run it through the middle of my refrigerator door very, very easily. Maybe a Rolex watch is finer, I don't know, I've never touched one. I don't care about such things. But this knife does feel amazing. I had to put it away before I did something stupid and hurt myself... or my refrigerator.

I ordered it, long, long ago, because I thought the picture of it looked really cool at the time and I had never had a "higher end" knife. In the meantime I still haven't become a knife guy, I mostly carry a keychain SAK classic, and occasionally a SAK compact or a 30 year old leatherman, which pretty much covers all of my carry tool needs. In the kitchen I have a 25 year old carbon Old Hickory/OKC 9" (?) I bought at WalMart 25 years ago for $5.00, I haven't found anything that I like any better, especially because I grew up with the same knife in the family kitchen.

After a year or two or so from ordering, I started to wonder if the GSO 5.1 would ever show up, and browsed through here a bit. I began to see the hate here for Survive! I understand where that hate was coming from.

But here's the thing: 90% of the time, over the course of my life, especially lately, as everyone seems to be more and more corrupt... anyway, 90% of the time, in situations like this, it seems like whatever company gets behind in its promises, it just folds up, keeps the money, and that's it. Over. People who paid get screwed. I really thought that's what would happen here too. Multiple times I considered calling them up and demanding a refund. I think a lot of people did that and I think they got their money back? Every time I was about to do the same thing, I thought "Oh what the heck, I'm not needing the money, maybe someday the knife will actually show up." And yesterday it did.

SURVIVE! DIDN'T DO WHAT I FULLY EXPECTED THEM TO DO IN THIS CORRUPT WORLD. They actually followed through. They didn't walk away and keep the money like everyone else. Damn.

That guy, whoever he is in the videos, I don't know his name. He actually followed through. He made it happen. He built out a shop, figured out how to do more or less everything himself, and kept his HONOR, didn't steal my money like so many others would have, and sent me this astonishing knife. It's completely perfect. Even the sheath is perfect, not one single flaw.

So I guess you can all just keep hating that company, and that guy, but he did follow through, and he didn't steal any money from anyone. Someone with honor is rare, so rare in this corrupt world now. I think he did a good thing. He's a good man. I'd have a beer with him and tell him that.

Also, I have no idea what to do with this knife. It's far too nice for me to ever use. I'll just keep using what I always have, for decades. They're fine. Maybe I'll put it in a glass box on the wall with a "break only in case of nuclear war!" sign on it.
6 hours is quite a long wait but I’m glad they finally came through for you and you got a knife you love and are excited about.I started to order one myself some years back but after reading stories of them missing their estimated delivery dates by several years,I was quickly turned off.Instead,I spent my money with LT Wright,Bark River,Battle Horse,Winkler and Hinderer.I may still get a Survive! GSO at some point,if they actually show up at BladeHQ,they have some available on their website or I pick one up in the exchange one day

Now, that may come across as a bit picky...

🤣

I cancelled all my orders and sold all my Survive Knives on eBay. I could no longer do business with a company with no business sense.
It took almost two years for me to finally cancel a knife that was supposed to be ready in 6 months, and then another two months to get them to give me a refund. Don’t get me wrong, they were nice to talk to, but stop with the excuses. The problems were created with not fault but “company”.
Instead of focusing on knives that where selling good, he got big for his britches and keep “developing” more knives which caused them to dedicate money to new projects. Ridiculous.

They have plenty of business sense, they just are not in the business you think they are.

I've spoken with him a number of times now directly and really like him. I'm well aware of his past with Survive! but I gave him/them a chance anyways and haven't been disappointed. I'm hoping to swing by their factory soon and say hi.

I bought a 5.1 and liked it so much I picked up a second one. I'm planning on using one and keeping the second for a gift (maybe) or for my son or daughter when they're older. If you can afford it it wouldn't hurt to pick up another 5.1 from them, even one of their factory seconds. I have one and it seems in perfect condition, there's just a subtle 2 at the base of the blade. That way you can have one in mint condition and use the other one.

I think he could have cut and run but he stuck in there, is manufacturing his own stuff now, and getting knives out the door. I'm not a knife aficionado like most here but I'm happy with my blades. I've sent them messages and have gotten responses in minutes. In some cases, I've had questions about something and they immediately sent a picture to answer the question. Considering how many knives they seem to be moving now I think that's pretty good service.

Oh wow. So are we saying that survive is the victim here?

There is a small but loud group of people here that absolutely hate this company. Even if they clean up their backlog and get every customer that paid, their knife… this small but loud group will continue to rant and moan about SK!. It’s like a hobby for them. They just like having a crusade I guess. They take great pride in the fact that they have a large never ending hate thread for the company. They feel very accomplished that it shows up in google searches (sorta like being the famous guy in a small town).

If you’re happy with the knife and feel it’s all water under the bridge… good for you man. Enjoy the blade. Don’t let a small but loud group of people make you feel like you’re part of a problem because you got your knife… but don’t still wanna hate SK!. Some people just like being recreationally outraged about something. They just can’t turn it loose.

Personally, I prefer to do my best to spend my money with decent and reputable people. I guess it's a birds of a feather kinda thing.
