Allan Blade

Holy poop~ola, mucho stuff has taken place with "The Thief" in the past six weeks. It's pretty clear that quite a few saw this train wreck coming. :D

I wonder how long it is going to take Allan to catch up. He states that he is a full time knifemaker.

And for someone that is a "full-time" knifemaker, he sure has a hard time kicking out "fixed blades" that are pretty run of the mill (i.e., nothing fancy or exotic).
:D

The moniker, "Thief," still fits him rather nicely ! :D

If he is making his living as a knifemaker, he has to be delivering a few knives every week. That is unless he is making a large amount off each knife, and considering his prices, that is definitely not the case. I have not seen anything that would indicate that more than a trickle of knives is coming out of his shop.

I have to disagree, Keith. It appears to me that he makes a lot of money on the knives he sells.

You see, if he sells a knife for say $500.00 and gets paid up front by the customer, and if the cost of manufacturing the knife(i.e., Imputed labor costs, materials and overhead) is really $0.00, as would be the case when he doesn't make the knife he was paid for, that's one heck of a profit margin.

Exactly. That is making your living as a flimflam man.

LOL - I like that. Didn't Grandpa Simpson write the book on Flimflam'n?

You know I've really never had anything but good experiences with knife buying.

I just started reading this forum and I never realized how many people had had bad deals.

But one thing I notice, at least it seems from reading all this stuff is that it seems like when knife makers start taking money up front it seems like they get themselves in trouble.

Seems especially like Dale and Allen Blade with what seemed like such demand for their blades would have had no problem NOT taking money up front and then if time came for people to pay up when their knife was done seemed like there would have been any number of people who would be willing to buy it instead.

Plus the idea of getting paid instead of already having the money might motivate them to get them done. I mean I can understand if it is some far out custom with a lot of special materials or something but otherwise seems like paying when your knife is done makes more sense.

Another thing is the place in line. It seems like the makers who have websites could put a lineup of orders so people would know others aren't jumping ahead of them.

HD,

We've been at this 'buying/selling/trading' stuff on an almost daily basis for a little over seven years now, and not to take away from this epic tale of woe and misery, aka the Allen Blade show...like you already know, most of the folks in our hobby are pretty darn good & honest folks...

Yes, about once a year we come across a minor-league wanker, like the dork that just pinched our money order...but none that compare to 'the Master', Mr. AB hisself...what a show, what a loser...

Well said, Melvin-Purvis ! :D

I have personally never had anything except excellent experiences with the makers I have dealt with. I always thought it was hilarious that Allan would get all upset about being badmouthed by folks that had never had any dealings with him. I'm sorry, but I would not consider myself to be too bright if I knew the things I know about him and still went ahead and gave him an order. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that Allan is not a good risk.

Anyone know if any of the BB guys have actually recieved a knife since the few he delivered during the "The Great Debate". looked like a bunch of them were starting to get really concerned then the thread was closed. Some had been owed knives for some time.

Seems to be very quite on BB. What's the old saying, "You sleep in the bed that you've made."

And that definitely blows ! :(

At least Joe is now owed less than $300.00. I hope he gets the rest, but if not it will hurt a lot less than when he was owed $1000.00.

i would say ya are probably right wolf,

but as others have said its a lot easier to swallow $300 vs $1K so i'm happy he got a little of it anyway.

I am one of the people from the locked BB thread. No news. No knife. Noone else seems to be complaining...
