Allan Blade

I have never met him, but have gotten emails from people that have. From what I gather, he is a personable guy who's shop is a single car garage. He lives in a cheap duplex and drives beaters. One email I got stated that Allan seemed mad at the knife world and was suspicious of those in it.

Thanks, LC - I think I have that one. I was under the impression that a new one had been started.

After all, I don't want to miss a single episode of the soap opera, "As The Worm Turns"! ;)

That's the newest one, right up to today.

I know of several people that would like to meet him. :D

I'd like him to meet Johnny Law. . . .up close and personal. :D

I'm sure there are a few people who would like to meet him - face to face. :D I just thought that with almost a THOUSAND posts in this thread, it would be interesting to hear the opinions of someone who has actually met him in person. Anyone?

I bet he's like every con man I have ever met: pleasant, personable, chatty, friendly, sympathetic, charming, understanding.....as long as he thinks he can get a buck from you.

With all that dough allan Blade collected through "pre-payment", he has no excuse for not paying Joe Chen in full.........................None!!!

Unless he uses theft as an excuse/explanation.

Of course Allan won't answer this because he is in his shop 14 hours a day, 7 days a week making all those knives for the guys on BB as well as designing knives for a major knife manufacturer..............

I have read this for years but kept out of it until now.....

I used to go to Allens shop when he was going through his divorce, many years ago.

I was at his shop many times in the valley and had rings, knives and kydex items made by him for me.I still have a talon ring and a kydex asp holder he made me.

His work was top quality and his shop was a garage but it was fully equipped.

He did show me 2 designs that were later sold by tops that he had designed first, that is 100% true...he was involved with tops to a large degree.

He was a quiet guy with a military background ,has a few tats and kids.He was never rude to me or asked for money in a con type way,etc...He was very sloww to make some items.I would say ALLEN was poor...He was not liveing the high life in any way.

Allen also had a bone crushing divorce and thats when all his problems started...it was a terrible divorce !

Thats just what I saw, Allen never talked about it to me...his wife was a 100% HARDCORE BITCH IMO !

I dont think he ever really recovered from that nightmare...as he left spokane for awhile and came back and I had seen him one time at a show but he seemed crushed he had a new wife but seemed burnt out...I also know he did have lot of health problems that is also true.

This is not a defence for his money problems or whatever wrong he has done to people...I just posted this because this is the man I knew.

Sorry my friend but none of the above is justification for what he has done.
We all have had serious shiit (most of us) happen in our lives. When I got shot I was out of work for close to three years. Then for many years thereafter it was surgery after surgery, over 50 in all. Anyone I gave my word to, I followed through, anyone I owed I paid, and not once did I lie. The secret is simple; it's called INTEGRITY. What Allan should have done was refuse orders, close shop, get a job, or if he chose to remain a knifemaker,; spend 60 hours a week in his shop until he has met all his obligations.

Life is tough sometimes, but honest folk stay honest.......................

I agree 100% I have been in the shi T and so have a lot of other dudes... I did add that it was NO DEFENCE but I just wanted to say that a lot of the tales of woe he has talked about were true....it really is to bad he lost integrity as he really is a very good knife and kydex maker.

It really is one of those deals for me where the guy you know and the guy you read about are so NOT the same. Its a sad deal for all no winners here.:(

Thanks for posting "alwilliam". I have also stayed out of this thread for the most part. I just thought it was interesting that out of so many posts, I don't remember reading anything from someone who had actually met him in person.

In every Allan Blade screwed me thread that has appeared here over the years, many have said that he waas a personable guy. Some even went as far to agree that it was all because he had such poor buisiness skills.

I have never met or talked with him, he is probably a decent guy.

Just very dishonest and without any credibility.

But again, probably a nice guy....................

It goes well beyond poor business sense. Being a bad businessman does mean that you will lie tp and defraud your customers. I think it goes without saying that he is piss poor at business, but he is also piss poor at being an ethical, honest human being.

Keith and Wolfmann - those are all facts that we've lived with and had proven to us over the years that Blade has been a "subject of interest" here on BFC. All of those who have had business with Blade (yes, including me) and have followed his "career" with interest are aware of the bad business practices, the lies, the thievery - the con.

But there seem to be so few people here who have actually met Blade face to face that I thought it would be interesting to hear their assessment. "Know thine enemy" - or something like that.

Yes sir, cannot change the facts.........

I have heard it many times that Alan Blade is a personable guy face to face and seems like a "nice and sincere" person.

That is what makes him such a superb con-man, I guess......

Of course he is a "personable guy", it's hard to be a grifter if your disagreeable.

Who's going to hand over money to an a**hole.

Over the years there have been a few makers that could be described by that adjective that people gave money to. D.E. Henry comes to mind.

Good point! Was his just personality in general, or did he have a reputation like Allan of not delivering? I've just read a little about him recently, something about naming him to a "Hall of Fame" or such?

LOL! Keith - 'ya beat me to it again! :D Yes, I have heard of one or two makers who are a bit "salty", but IMHO they are such a rarity among the group of wonderful makers out there I think they can be easily ignored.

But there's a big difference between a grumpy old man and a grifter. I have a friend who is an expert in the "Art of The Con" and he told me years ago that the con man is the most pleasant, agreeable, warm and friendly sort of person you'd ever want to meet. As Confederate said, who wants to give money to an a**hole! (Isn't that what the IRS is for?;) )

It was just personality, his reputation for honesty and integrity was excellent as far as I know.
