Am I weird for cutting my steak and chicken with a folder?

I have only seen this version in one other location.
The one I commonly see is the one I posted above. Is this an updated model?
The alloy used on the one you posted is 420j2, and the one I show above is vg-10.

That being said, I like the blade shape of this one, but prefer the alloy in the one I posted.

Well the one with 420j2 is the one released under the kai brand which is known for their inexpensive kitchen knives. While the one you posted with the vg-10 is under the Shun brand which is their high end kitchen knife brand

So they put the flashier blade shape on the lower end alloy. Likely due to ease of grinding...

Eh well...

Why not buy a hobo knife and use all its utensils. Then wipe your hands off with a neckerchief and piss in your own portable urinal.

Girly friend thinks so and I have gotten some unusual looks at Texas Roadhouse when I pull out the Griptillian and start cutting away 😂

Hey Bro, I'm with you. You carry it to use it. But you got the wrong blade IMO. Get a big traditional stag and the food, preferably big and red, just plain tastes better;)

Cracks me up reading all the responses. It's not proper to use a pocket knife in public. People will think it's strange. You should use your knife at home and picnics only. It might draw attention? I've used my pocket knives at lunch and dinner every day for years. No one has ever said a word simply because they didn't even know. Some of you make it sound like the OP would be tearing a knife out if his pocket, and waving it around screaming "hey look everybody I brought my own knife to dinner isn't this weird "! Nah man take your knife to dinner use it, be discreet don't worry about being weird.

Yeah im just focused on my prime cut of cow. Taking the knife out my pocket is just second nature when its chow time.

Are you one of those who also color coordinate their (pocket EDC) dumps for pics..., because Ive seen that posted:D

NO! EDC Pocket dumps are just a bunch of people showing off their overpriced man jewelry! I am saying that if I am dressed up I carry a gentleman's type folder. So if I am out for a nice dinner and I am dressed up, the knife wont be one of my Spyderco Millies, it will be a smaller, slimmer, gents knife.

My kitchen knives will outperform your folders by such a broad margin there would simply be no comparison. Knives are for cutting the right things. If that's food for folders for you, that's all good, but you're absolutely using the wrong tool for the job.

Mmmmmm.....my kitchen knives, I believe, will out perform your kitchen knives :) but I still use a pocket knife while dining in a restaurant.

The reason restaurant steak knives are serrated is because no one at a restaurant is willing to sharpen steak knives!

As I said, then it's a matter of being in the wrong restaurant rather than having the wrong knife. ;)

I stopped serving sirloin steaks years ago because people couldn't understand why the sirloin wasn't as tender as a filet....

In France a steak called a Pave' is cut out of top round..great flavor but you have to both cut and chew it....not everything is meant to be gummed ;)

Some of the most tender steaks you will ever have are cheap cuts of meat that have been pinned (aka prechewed)...tender but disgusting

Restaurant knife won't cut? I'd have no problem whipping out a Shun Higo or Giant Mouse GMF1. You gotta do, what you gotta do, hell I'd even bring my own TP if I had hemorrhoids.

I love knives. Always have. But I have always kinda looked at people pulling their edc to cut food at a restaurant as a "look at me" type tactic. Sorta like crocodile Dundee shaving with his bowie. Its not practical, will hurt the edge of the knife, and steak knives are provided at restaurants for a reason. So you DONT have to bring your own. I have a knife on me for one purpose. To use when I need it. And cutting a steak at a dining establishment that provides silverware to me isn't a need. It just brings attention needlessly. And I think of all the crap I cut with my knife and the last thing I want to do is cut my food with it. If you really want to be OG pimp knife user while dining out get yourself a high quality set of personal silverware in a case and bring it to the place. You may be looked at as a douche, but it will be the right tool for the job.

^^^^this. All day.
