Art Knife Invitational '09 ~ images/impressions

This is a beautiful piece. There are not many sheaths that are that nice. Did Curt make the knife and Julie engrave it?

This one was more collaborative, beyond just Julie's engraving. I'll get the details and report - once they are available. Within 12 hrs of their return home, they had to close on their dreamhome and are cleaning up stuff, moving, etc.

I love those Frisco shivs! You have quite the discerning taste in knives my friend.

Bob, that is a real beauty of a knife and if you used the "Steinau-money" to pay for this one you did good twice over:thumbup:

Buddy & Bob, great knives, thanks for sharing. What's in the handle, Bob?

So, what did Laura snag...??!!

Laura has a great eye for this stuff and settled on this beautiful pre-owned piece:

Nice ! I was told the exchange part of the show (I mean collectors trading and selling pre-owned knives) was quite slow, with very few business done. Is that right ?

Joss - the catalog information was wrong on the handle composition, though only with respect to the cabachon. Both sides of the dagger, incidentally, are identical. Heavy gold, lots of it in relief, and golden pietersite cabachons.

The description was supposed to say "a gold stone", but in order to completely make it a correct description, it should have said "pietersite with golden chatoyancy".

Yes, she does. Who can deny this combination of shapes and materials. Good for HER. :)

Thanks!

Buddy, just saw it. That's a dynamite pearl job with what looks to be some higher relief gold, just gorgeous.

Thanks for this thread Buddy. Great knives by the makers and a great review. I also like the constructive discussion. Gives me a lot to think about for the show I put on. I understand Bob's issue but not sure how you correct it. In a way its too bad for the "new" collector on the scene, in another way it adds a ton of excitement to the show if you play the game. If you don't play the game it probably wouldn't seem so fun. Probably no perfect answer.

i think the way to "fix" the problem is to allow only one draw per person per knife (ie only an original preprinted ticket works) or do away with the entire pretense that it is a random drawing where everyone has an equal chance.

What do you mean about a random drawing??

Very funny :):);):D:D

That's my business partner Peter.

He apprenticed under Rod Chappel and studied under Phil Baldwin...he has actually made some superb knives(the photo Buddy put up IS funny, though).

That's his Santa Fe Stoneworks damascus steaknife and a fork from the hotel in front of him.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
