Bark River has taken $16,000 of My Money

How could MS be a convicted felon and still make knives? Wasn't he working at Marble's during that period?:jerkit:

Well. A lot has gone on in this thread and I now have the opportunity to say something:

Today I received a Cashier's Check From Mike Stewart for $16,000. I have already deposited it in the bank and don't expect there to be any problems with it clearing.

I'd now like to respond to some things that have been happening on this thread:

JTR357: It is outrageous that you accused me of making personal attacks on Mike Stewart. A personal attack would be something like name calling, or making allegations against someone's character without evidence. I stuck to the facts, had documentation on everything I stated and made that evidence available to anyone who wanted to review it. You owe me an apology.

I'd also like to point out that several people on this thread DID make personal attacks. Calling someone a slimeball, accusing them of theft without evidence and other schoolyard tactics do nothing for the credibility of the person who engages in that sort of behavior. In fact, it is my opinion that engaging in such behavior, particularly on the internet, is indicative of a lack of character.

In this case, it lowers you to the level that Mike and Reid took on the KnifeForums thread-- in which Mike called me unstable and Reid posted a picture of a clown, obviously referring to me.

To those who said the "Court of Public Opinion" was not the way to handle this: you were wrong. I was able to recover my money in less than two weeks. Litigation would have cost me about 30% of the money and would have taken months. Not only that, but the knife community would not have had the opportunity to get a Bird's Eye view of how Bark River and Mike Stewart conduct business.

Finally, I want everyone here to understand that I still believe Mr. Stewart breached a legal contract. In fact, given that he missed two delivery dates and then tried to blame it on me, I find his business practices to be abhorrent. That, however, was not what brought these hot coals down on his head. If he would have told me that he needed two weeks to refund my money, I would have agreed to that; two weeks time is reasonable for a business to process a refund this large. Instead, he chose not to commit to a date and then attempted to justify it with an arrogance that I simply could not tolerate.

Only by publishing the facts (and only the facts) was I able to force him into committing to a date. Only by using the leverage of public opinion was I able to force him to do what was right. Whether you decide to do business with him in the future or not, is up to you. I would only encourage you to make that decision based on VERIFIABLE FACTS and DOCUMENTATION-- not based on unsubstantiated nonsense on an internet forum.

I really tried to behave in an honorable manner regarding this entire issue. I am sorry that some people (both for and against Mike Stewart) did not.

And now folks, I'm taking a small vacation from the knife world. I'll probably be back and I might even have more to say on this in the future. However for now I think we should all let the dust clear for a few weeks.

Congratulations on getting your funds back.

SS, congrats on getting your money back.

Don't know much about law I see.:D

Apparently not. Feel free to point me to a source for this info. Mike is not the only convicted felon owning/working at a major knife company. Unless I'm completely misguided, I stand by my previous response.

Wow. I've sat here and read this entire thread...I've never hung in this long to read one this long. I laughed, I got mad, I was sad...it's been an emotional roller-coaster. Now I expect after hearing all's well with a happy ending that there'll be some huge new turn of events that starts it all again. Thanks all ;)

Snarl, I'm very glad you got your money back. Sometimes when the legal system fails to act in a timely manner crooks must be shamed into doing the right thing. Mike's actions will certainly come back to haunt him at some point. For me, no more Bark River knives as long as Mike Stewart has anything to do with them.

Apologize to MS for what? Being a jerk and a crook? Toss him in the crooked heap with Ontario.

I guess apologies are in order to MS to all who said he wouldn't pay up. Lets see who's first.

For basically funding a project with a $16K "loan" upon which he paid not one iota of interest?

For telling the "lender" he'd refund the principle when he damn well pleased?

For finally giving in when he realized all the bad press he was receiving?

Bison22, you might should have kept your post count at 2. :D

SnarlSlayer, I'm glad this ended well for you. $16K is nothing to laugh at.

I would just like to apologize & withdraw any negative feedback I issued concerning Mike Stewart & BRK&T.

I just heard from a very reliable source, that these attacks are a personal vendetta by SS.

It appears that everything that SS posted was true. Why else would Mike Stewart have issued him a cheque for $16,000.00. It also appears that the right tactics were used in getting Mike to pay what he owed. Well done, SS.

I guess apologies are in order to MS ... Lets see who's first.

...Apologies??......Gimmee a break...Knowing the past customer service practices of any person or institution I buy anything from is one of the first things I undertake to do...That knowledge generally comes from word of mouth regarding those practices. You ask a friend or a neighbor or you read reviews. I know all I'll need to know about this purveyer of sharp impliments...more than enough. Really glad you received part ( where's the interest you lost? ) of what you had coming SS...

SnarlSlayer-

Glad you at least received your principal back. Wow, over an hour read. . .looks like you choose an appropriate outlet. . . FWIW, I think you handled yourself quite well. For 16 G's, I probably wouldn't have.

Glad you got the money back and this is over.
I for one hope it is not, SS is owed interest and the potential profit he would have made on the knives, he got his money, but the contract was still breached and SS still lost. MS lost also, most of all credibility.
Just my .02,
James
BTW: I would not have been as nice and laid back as SS, he stated the facts and waited it out. I am happy he got the principle. But he is owed more.

Wow! And I was about to pull the trigger on a couple of BRKT's. Not sure I want to support that kind of business practice.

SnarlSlayer, I am glad this has been sorted.
It give one a warm fuzzy feeling when the good guys win for a change.
Take care.
