A question should be asked: "What will you be using the knife for?"

But the BG knife isn't useful for either of those tasks

You may think this knife is a piece of shit, but I am pretty sure if it were the only knife on you in a life or death SURVIVAL situation you would do everything possible to make sure you babied it after all your life depends on it
a mora with fire starter and sharpener costs 20% of the cost of this knife?Yeah and the reason it sucks is because for a large knife that isn't well suited for fine, fragile, detailed tasks, it also requires an inordinate amount of babying in order to keep it in one piece.
That's not good. A Mora costs 20% of a BG but provides infinitely more utility at the one task the tool needs to be capable of doing.
Zing!You know why .
But it's the "Ultimate Haircut!"The Gerber is bad but that $5.00 haircut is even worse.
I think the OP would have seen much less pushback if he hadnt used the term “ultimate failure”. That is some pretty strong language to toss around, considering the state of the world.I'm the OP![]()

Possibly, but imagine that you're the unfortunate soul who bought this on the hype, and went somewhere where you needed it and it failed, while you believed you had a good quality gear.I think the OP would have seen much less pushback if he hadnt used the term “ultimate failure”. He was in the SAS and did two tours in North Africa. You don’t get a free pass at SAS selection, but why should I bother trying to explain that to a hater like you?
How is it any different than BASE jumpers drinking Red Bull or pro football players endorsing the next nutrition supplement? If I have to explain to you why you shouldn’t take a $20 knife in to remote areas of the wilderness in an attempt to rough it with no training, we are going to have a long day. Don’t blame Gerber and BG for what some moron decides to do. That isn’t how life works…and certainly not how the law operates.
And?
So?
Which you were able to find out as a knife expert. The average Walmart shopper isn’t a “knife expert”, they just want to roast marshmallows and whittle some sticks. I think you seriously overestimate the seriousness of this knife’s marketing. Do people buy cold steel knives so they can go slam them through pig skulls?
I didn’t ask for ”documentation” and would appreciate a cease and desist on your (and others) strawman fallacies. I asked why the knife is garbage, I didn’t ask you to put on a white lab coat and go study the problem for a few months in a metallurgical laboratory.
So explain why it’s garbage.
Now you get it. It’s about profitability and economy of scale. If you’re expecting me to grab a pitchfork and torch and head to Gerber HQ, count me out. Some things people should be responsible enough to figure out for themselves.
I agree, but I’m just not as angry about it as you seem to be.
Not apples to apples. The lighters aren’t water proof.Mora robust: 15€
Fallkniven D3T: 10€
2 lighers: 1€
Bear Grylls knife: 35€
Uhhhh yeah...
Did you have anything to contribute to the topic other than your little passive-aggressive jabs at people that disagree with you on the internet?Do you actually like knives, for any reason?

I honestly believe that most folks who would put themselves in a "Survival Situation": already know how to pick out a quality survival tool.Possibly, but imagine that you're the unfortunate soul who bought this on the hype, and went somewhere where you needed it and it failed, while you believed you had a good quality gear.
You'd probably word it way worse than I did.
Because all lighters use flint...Not apples to apples. The lighters aren’t water proof.
This is exactly what you're doing entire timeDid you have anything to contribute to the topic other than your little passive-aggressive jabs at people that disagree with you on the internet?
You’re really steering this off-road. You’re asking what value a sharpener and ferro rod has? Seriously?Earlier the prices of ~$9 for a basic Mora (I've seen them at that price too) and ~$50 for the Gerber were given. ~$9 is ~20% of ~$50 in my financial arithmetic.
I also didn't budget for toys that aren't knives. What value does a sharpener add to a 'knife' like the BG survival bar? Can it even be sharpened? What about after a crescent of steel falls out of the blade because you tried to whittle a twig? I own lighters that are far simpler to use and cost almost nothing, plus durable lighters to back them up. What's the benefit of a ferro rod? if I want to enjoy making a primitive fire why wouldn't I have fun with a bowdrill instead?
