Oh, and as what would Little Dickie Simmons do, why run an aerobics class at Boy's Town; what else.

I believe swimming should also be at a much higher distance requirement....say 300 miles; why you ask, well, one could float on his back and catch a south easterly current in Virginia Beach and wind up in Kitty Hawk, NC (70+ miles) without breaking a sweat, and getting a suntan to boot; what kind of workout is that?
Oh, and yes, I can do 150 miles in a month...and I'll be 65 tomorrow; take that!
By that same logic though, I could coast down a mountain on my bike and get 100 points without breaking a sweat. Whatever we do will be on the honor system and is meant to benefit the participant.
Seems pretty fair so far. Want to see what the Colonel and Alnamvet68 have to say about mileage. Moose and Murph might want to add drunken crawling. 1 mile drunken crawling = 25 Becker Points? Too easy?
So you think 2 miles mountain biking = 1 BP? I'd be okay with that.
OK then, we're at a fork in the road....it's time for Dick and his spandex brigade to make a decision.
I think the original intention was to get us up and off our (speaking for myself mainly here) lazy, fat behinds and get some exercise IN ADDITION TO whatever we usually do.
But, but, that's Eggnog season!
I'm in,
Kayaking count?

Moving water?
1 mile = -5 Becker Points because of all the beer you consume.![]()
Happy early birthday![]()
I love to swim, and i always thought i was pretty decent at it, not Olympic swimmer good, not speed racing competition good, but swimming the ocean and rivers was always something i loved. My father tossed me out the boat when i was real small, since then i jumped every chance i could.
While I was in the Army me and a buddy raced (running) 2 miles for 20 bucks, and he won with a time of 11 minutes something, and my best time EVER was 13:26
SO he was bragging and i was mad and being cocky I challenged him to a race swimming a mile. That was DUMB, I love swimming when its recreational. But id rather walk 50 miles than have to swim 1 mile straight.
If your in a pool, or a lake, not cheating floating down a river, I think swimming a mile straight should be like walking 10.
I like Qeth's idea of sticking to some basic triathlon ratios and let it ride.
I also like the Becker Points thing too. While I intend to run/hike 50 miles regardless, I also like the option of putting in some trail time on the bike and earning points.
Okay, so any objections to the following?
1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points
If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.
I think I'll call it the "Becker Move Your Ass Challenge."
You have to carry a Becker knife with you. Duh.
Seriously though? We put a LOT of emphasis on tools and skills in this subforum, but the #1 tool we have is our bodies. (Yes, Murph, I said it. You're a tool.)
This idea was the rationale behind the "Less Is More" thread and this thread, which is an offshoot. Knowledge is key, and the right tools don't hurt.
But you can avoid a lot of problems and extricate yourself from danger more effectively by increasing your fitness. That's my take anyway.
I like the decision; I'll start tomorrow after I walk the dog a mile (that does count, right?), feed her, and then load up on some Little Dickie Simmons music for encouragement.![]()
Not trying to be an ass or anything but my only bike looks like this.

Except now a lot dirtier from trail riding, ect. So my question is do I get to be a special snowflake and have my own category for riding a bike (can't run due to an ankle injury) or should I just jump in with the mountain biking? Either way I still ride about 4-5 miles a day if I have time.
