Becker 50-Mile Challenge, (Edit) Hereafter Known as the Move Your *** Challenge

I think you'd need to have a lot o miles for the long boarding. Whenever I ride my friends longboard it feels like I barley did anything at all (without the push stick) and that's after about 5 miles of boarding.

I was joking on the boards, but the land paddling is a much bigger workout than just riding. People look at you like you're an alien though. :D

I can imagine it being harder. And getting a bunch of "WTF?!?" Looks.

First time I seen a person on one of the SUPs i looked at him like he was an alien.

I never heard of them but then i see this guy paddling his weird big surf board with a cooler on it and i was confused as heck.

This sounds entirely reasonable. I move we go with it!

How's about we have 1 mile running= 4 miles road biking, 3 miles mountain biking? I am going off triathlon run to road bike ratios:

Per wikipedia: .

"Intermediate (or Standard) distance; commonly referred to as the "Olympic distance": 1.5 kilometer (.93 mi) swim, 40 kilometer (25 mi) bike, 10 kilometer (6.2 mi) run."

EDIT:

Have it something like this- goal is 50 BP (Becker Points)
1 mile walking/ hiking/ jogging= 1 BP
4 miles road biking= 1 BP
3 miles mountain biking= 1BP

This too would be fine. Guyon you might just set it in concrete and we'll get on it starting the 15th.

Seems pretty fair so far. Want to see what the Colonel and Alnamvet68 have to say about mileage. Moose and Murph might want to add drunken crawling. 1 mile drunken crawling = 25 Becker Points? Too easy?

So you think 2 miles mountain biking = 1 BP? I'd be okay with that.

Check the dates in the OP. We're kicking this thing from November 15 to December 15. Ends just in time to vegetate for the holidays. Next week is just warm-up.

ETA:

Just spoke to trade on the phone, and we agree there needs to be a Becker "I Moved My Ass" patch for the successful participants.

.

Got it....1 week to lube up the old frame set. I like the patch idea. Would be nice if it was sized the same size as the patches that go on the front of the contractor's baseball cap, like where many put the US flag. On second thought, how about a ball cap with the patch for the successful individuals....Café Press can hook you up ricky tick for that one.

Well, I have to run every week anyway. Attaboys won't motivate me either way.

I was already in. I guess I'll be in this one too

I am in.....

I like the rations

"50 miles on foot.
200 miles road cycling.
150 miles mountain biking."

I'll also be wading through the rivers fishing.....that counts right?:)

Should be a good month. Rain or shine.

Look forward to seeing the pix.

Get out there!

Okay, we'll run this warm-up chat up till the 14th. It was good getting the details ironed out early.
I'll close this thread next week and start a new one with the Becker Points information. That'll be where people can report in their progress.

Side note:
If you don't have any easy way to measure distance, Everytrail lets you "draw" your track on top of a Google map, and it then calculates your distance.

So far, we are at:

1 mile walking/ hiking/ jogging= 1 BP
4 miles road biking= 1 BP
3 miles mountain biking= 1 BP
1 mile swimming= 6 BP

Are there any other distance related activities people want to add? Speak now or forever hold your Reese's Pieces.

Well then I'll quickly reach the 50BP. I swim over a mile per hour :). I'm in!
But uhm, what about the picture side-assignment? I can't take pics while swimming, you know :)

Post-swim artistic rendering? Crayons are acceptable.

Yes! I might :D.
Anyway, I need 65 laps of 25 metres in the pool for one mile. I usually get around 80 per hour, so I'm looking forward to it. Gonna try to swim as much as possible for one hour, but I'll only count the 65, even when I'm over it. The additional mileage is just a personal plus then. Gonna try to get to the pool 3 times a week again. Difficult, but should be possible. Combined with walking in the evenings, it should work out.
Really looking forward to this!

I'll get a commitment list together based on the "I'm in's" so far.
Success will get you an attaboy/attagirl and a certificate.
Failure means that tradewater and Murph visit your house, take a dump at your front door, and render your household pets "different than before."

it is so.much.fun. No lie. And an outstanding core workout.

Nothing is simple anymore, is it?

I will just be walking. Or by the looks of things at the moment, snowshoeing.

I'm in.. it is easy to track distance when the machine tells you what it is, lol. The scenery may not be woods and water, but sometimes (like this morning, lol) it is pretty nice..

I'm not a Beckerhead; heck, until a week ago, I didn't pay no Beckers no nevermind nohow :-O But that was then! Nowadays, I spend a lot more time than I ever imagined searching this forum and reading up on all things Becker related. That being the case, can I play with y'all? I just started two-a-day workouts, including swimming and jogging, as well as lifting, so this Becker Challenge falls perfectly within my Zone of Interests. What say ye?
