Becker folder

Okay, how about no confusion over the color of the scales. Just an all stainless linerless version. Sure, it has some drawbacks, but it sure is simple.

all stainless? i like that one too, but im kinda stuck on the black on black look. then you KNOW its a Becker:thumbup:....man i hope the guys at KaBar are looking at this thread as well as Ethan. i want this thing SOOOOOO bad. the BK2 is, and always be my favorite, and a folding version would be just another Becker to treasure.

DawsonBob, your killing me here.........

now i'm going to dream about a BK2 folder, all metal......'

grrr..:D

You know... come to think about it, I haven't done a version with black steel and black scales: I'll have to rectify that, because, you're right, the simplicity of black on black really says Becker.

I'm with you; the BK-2 is my favorite knife, too. That's why I designed this one to have the traditional Becker handle shape and a modified BK-2 blade. If you're going to carry a folder, what could possibly be better than a BK-2 folder?

I have no idea whether Ethan or KA-BAR is looking at this thread. That's not why I did it. I designed this knife because it's something that I would dearly love to have, and I wanted to share it with all the rest of you Becker lovers, too.

Look for an all black model in just a little while.

Woody made me realize that we didn't have a real all black Becker version yet, so here it is.

that thing SCREAMS Becker....plaese guys, i dont care if you have to put a few projects on hold (and im betting im not the only one), get one on the market ASAP! please please please! i only ask for a well made sheath with a pouch for a medium/fine touch-up stone. this one has the makings of an ideal hunting/camping/survival knife, and id be willing to bet itll be one of the best out there.

Yeah, it does scream Becker, doesn't it?:D

My feeling is that this would be a basic, no nonsense, tougher-than-dragon-snot knife — the folding version of the BK-2: something that would see you through any situation, and never let you down. Personally, I think it could become a pretty popular knife with people who use knives, not just those who collect pretty, over-hyped stuff to put in their safe. This thing was meant to stand up to real life situations.

Don't hold your breath, though; I seriously doubt that you're going to see it at this year's Blade show.:D

Manufacturers like KA-BAR have a calendar they work to. They can only introduce so many knives a year, and bringing a new knife to market can take a long time. On top of that, any manufacturer keeps new releases within the parameters of what fits their line up. A BK-2 folder may fit, and then again, it may not. They also have to look at the production cost — although this one is really rather simple, with mostly laser cut/water jet cut parts — and demand. They have to ask: how many of these can we sell at a certain price point and make a profit?

I just have fun coming up with things like this, and sharing them with you guys. I don't work for Becker or KA-BAR, I just believe in the Becker brand (good, tough knives at a very good price point), and the Becker community we've built here. Also, Ethan is a stand up guy with great ethics, who stands behind everything with his name on it, and Toooj has proven to be the same way. I do these things for us, and if they ever get produced, then that's cool. If they don't, I've still had fun — which is a win-win for me.

I'm really happy that you guys like this design, though: it makes the hours I put in worth it.

Thanks, guys.

All the pics I have posted so far have been of the outside, to show what it could look like. But what about the inner beauty of the thing? It's not just another pretty face, you know.

The construction of this thing is very basic. You know; strong, simple and reliable. Before, I wasn't as concerned with the interior, because you couldn't see it on the full pics. Now, looking it over, I realize that I should take it into my CAD program and fix the mistakes I can see in the mechanism.

Still, here's what the innards look like so far.

im LOVING this thread, DB you gotta stop, im gonna be in Olean with picket signs!:D

Oh, alright, I'll stop... for now.

Still, the thought of a one man picket line is pretty funny.:D The travel though, from Iowa to Olean, would be a bit much just to be a one man picket line. Why do I get the feeling that you actually do want one of these things?

I'm at a point where I need to do some engineerin' on this beast. I need to plot out cuttin', drillin' and such. Also need to work on the lockup and pivot placement.

Maybe I'll stop till I get those things worked out, which will save you the price of a ticket to Olean.:D

are you saying they wouldnt take one man with a picket sign seriously? LOL... no man, dont stop, i want Ethan, Toooj, and the folks at KaBar to know some of us are dead serious about this design. i may only own 3 Beckers, but ive been using a BK2 for almost everything 6 or 7 years now. i didnt realize i needed more Beckers until i found this section/forum, and your idea is one i could use to convert alotta old hunters to the Becker line with. my stepdad (Vietnam vet, and longtime KaBar guy) is getting a BK2 for Christmas this year, ive already decided that. maybe then he will quit asking to borrow mine.

LOL. From what I've seen of KA-BAR, not only would they take you seriously, but they'd probably invite you in for coffee and a tour of the plant.:D

I'm sure that Ethan, Toooj, and the gang will stumble across this thread at some point. What they make of it, well, that's another question.

I hope they don't mind me showing my Becker blade fantasies on here, and stirring up the troops, so to speak: it's all to their advantage, after all.

We're all glad you found the Becker forum, too, especially if it made you realize that you need more Beckers. There's some really neat stuff coming out in the near future, like the BK-14 Brat (subject to a name change) and the BK-5 Magnum Camp, not to mention the up coming tweeners.

There may even be a Becker folder in the future — who knows?

All I can say, is buy more Beckers!

I know I will.

We've all been waiting for the Tweeners for awhile — some of us for a year since we got a sneak-peek after the Blade show last year and, more recently, little glimpses from Ethan's trip to Olean a while back.

The fact that there haven't been been a few more sneak-peeks in the last little while just builds anticipation for their showing at the upcoming Blade show. I can hardly wait!

I WANT TWEENERS! Sorry — didn't mean to shout.

I'll be buying more Beckers just after Blade, that's for sure.

its ok to shout, ive been known to chant TWEENER, TWEENER, TWEENER in my sleep...Mindy isnt sure what to think. it sounds alot like "between her":D...allright, i might be fibbing a bit there, but i DO chant for them once in awhile:thumbup:

Hmmm. I seem to remember a lot of similar chanting in the Tweeners thread I started a while back. I'm sure you were chanting there... and so was I.

At least all the chanting let's The Powers That Be know that we want the things that they're working on.:D

Drives Bladite nuts, though, I think. It has to be hard on our esteemed monitor when he has to deal with a bunch of nuts.:D

yes, i WAS doing some chanting, but i didnt realize it made Bladites job harder. from now on i'll try to keep my mindless jabbering to a minimum. :D my idea of mindless jabber and his might differ a bit tho. BWAhahahahahah

I'm not sure it actually makes his job harder, just, well... different.:D

Bladite actually does have a good sense of humor, it's just that it may differ from some of us on occasion. He's trying to do a job as moderator, whereas I'm immoderate as heck.:D

Still, he has put up with my silliness without too much complaint, which makes him almost a Saint.
