Beckerhead Knife Making and Modification Thread

Thank you all for the encouraging comments. I will be using German silver pins and red/black micarta for scales. I took the pre heat treat finish to 320 to remove the grinding marks. Nothing fancy there.

awanna see more of your stuff, hawkhead, and you too, daizee, that scraper is beautiful! I also have one 1084 dashi waiting for a garage HT and might make some more soon.

except the spike, everything, including the blade, was made out of scraps from other projects

Dang Zulu. Good looking work. I really like the scrap handle. Neat the way you stacked it all together.

Zulu, I love that wide-bladed thing with the leather sheath. Looks like a wood splitter with great lines.

Zulu, Interesting stuff you made. I save left over bits and pieces too. Eventually I find a use for them. Your fit and finish look very good.

Scrap knives rock! They demand creativity, but also make it easier because the material is 'free'.

Three of my bench knives and one kitchen knife are scraps, and three are serious favorites that see a lot of action. In lowly 1084, no less (no more?).

Speaking of scrap knives, here's a piece of 1084 I am making into a neck knife. I still have to drill and skeletonize the handle then comes backyard heat treat. LOA: 5.375", Blade: 2.25", thickness: .187".

well, it is actually kinda small with an oal of 7", but I bet it can tackle hard stuff. Guess I'll have to make a big brudah!

Cooked some knives tonight.
Hans made a mini battle axe out of CPM154 scraps, and then wanted to try a differential temper on my file knife.
Everything's in cryo now, finishing the temper cycles tomorrow.

Cool micro hawk. Is that a weld?

If the color line matches the hamon on the muk, it will be awesome.

Yep, that's a tig weld. The two pieces were leftovers.

The other blades will be polished. That's not actually a hamon, just surface colors from the oven. Sometimes I leave 'em on for stick tangs, and almost always for 'dashi, though.

My most recent knife, this is my first to turn out bombproof through many heat treat experiments. It's a ferrier rasp, (said to be 1095) with homemade micarta handles. I made it for my girlfriends father, he is an avid hunter and has a totally cheap knife, haha.

Bladite couldn't handle my signature. So here we are.

Looking good WR. There are more than a few things Bladite can't handle. LOL.

edit:
Waiting for the Bladite ban hammer in four, three, two...

Hahaha, yeah I had the iPhone via tapatalk sig and bladite didn't approve! And thanks!

A build-a-long, sorta. Recycled materials and mostly recycled time, spent while waiting around for stainless blades to heat-treat. No hand finishing steel here:
