Hi all,
Caine thanks.
Joben I put the mustard on and then left it over night. But you can do a couple of hours to. Some even put on severeal coats.
Ok here is what i have done so far the last couple of days.
First I made up a sheath for it. I put a small knife in front and then did the normal pouchs for a firesteel and then a ceramic sharpener.
I wanted to make a spear but not just any spear so I made this kind op in stead it reqires a bit more carving I think then the normal ones that I make.
Ok I went to a area that is going to be cut of all locust trees. ( by this guy that has a tree cutting service named Breeden LOL)
I found one that I thought would work just fine and it was pretty straight too.
Then I cut it down.
Then I sliced off the outer bark with my MEGA as you can see in the pic.
Now here is the interesting part of the tip of the spear I needed a Y.
One thing about a longer knife is that when you are cutting around in a tree that has thorns it sure is nice cutting what I wanted not getting stuck. It is also nice to be able to carry that thorn covered Y back to my little camp.
I skinned the bark and the thorns off and now it looks a little different would n't agree LOL
Now that I have the Y peace debarked and the point sharpened some what.
I put some notches in both the Y and my shaft at the end as you can see in the pic.
Well I attacted the Y to the end of my spear shaft , but instead of using 550 cord or some other typr of cord I used some good ole wire, I hope you all carry a least a little bit of wire in your kit.
The nice thing about wire is that is will not burn when i put it in the fire to help dry out the wood and fire harden the tip.
I will show that in the next part.
