Buck's Kustom Knife Shop IS still OPEN!

I don't know how to set it up, but a poll of whether forum members that have ordered customs in the past would order from the custom shop at the new prices would be interesting.

Just a thought: perhaps the price increases are a tactful way of shutting down the custom shop. If die hard Forum Buckaholics do not intend to patronize.....who will?

there was a poll on were you get your bucks :
and one about a spcheal issue that shows what dreams are made of:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=547747

more to the point is with the new priceing will collectors now buy after market knives customized by the likes of painted pony / wild horse / and smaller name re-workers?
Buck did cut off all but large orders of striped frames...
i hope this is not a prelude to closing the shop...
you all do know it is NOT a shop-
rather a location with a U shaped grouping of equiptment?
That CELL can be reset up to make ANY knife they make..
from 110 to the rare K-hammer Nemos they did...

the repair location is like a room, and is the only other place were they can do all the knives... and this location falls under Joe's control.
addationaly he is helping the back log on the 110 custom orders by bulding them there so the other line may not have to re set up fpr jest one knife.
(some one form buck email me to correct me if i am wrong...)
i would love to hear tuesday from Buck on the price increases...
i think it is Highly Possable that large retail coustomers have pushed the issue of priceing at the "store" of knives at or less then the retailers sell them for.. Cabblas has opened a store very darn close and i belive Cabbilas HAS said some thing to Buck about compeating with them in priceing on knives in the store which is Open to the public...
if it was not could be that would solve the issue also
If that is the case of cobbles crybabbying then the notation of a custom shop knife at reasonable priceing being avable only to
BCCI Members would solve this issue very handly!!!:D
now the question is: if the CS were to have such priceing would you guys that are not in the BCCI join?

From an accountant's view this may make perfect sense but there is big fan base here that acts as quasi P.R. people for Buck. Sometimes actions as these can leave a bad taste in peoples mouth and ruin a sense of family.

...So true Robert...and that is basically the gist of this entire thread...

Ummm...Not so, DarrylS...This thread is about 334dave letting everyone know the Custom Shop is still open...

the custom shop is OPEN and running fine!
AND the turn around time is way faster thanks to JOE!

did ya call yet?
they got your knife and they are
jest a wateing on you to tell then what to put on it !!!

But 334dave seems to have a good working relation with Joe Houser -

i guess what i am saying is that many of us know Joe on a level that is of well ....
some one we know,,, and as such we dont even pause to call...
which i do jest to catch up on elk or some other shooting of the beef...
joe would not mind talking with him or takeing his call,,,

I think 334dave knows more than he's telling us... :grumpy:

Dave
Do you see any indication that BCCI membership might make a difference? I don’t. They didn’t give us any kind of warning. They know full well that the people who visit this web site are for the most part the people who are most likely to buy a knife from the Custom Shoppppeeee. I am glad that I got the one I did get but I dought very much that I will buy another one. Oh well, I have lots of other interests. To bad though, I was enjoying myself. As someone else has already pointed out, I don’t need any more knives. If I am not feeling good about the hobby I’ll find something else to get into.

Dave,
I was thinking that the re-workers/custom guys must be thrilled the other day.

This just let all of them have a ton more work or lets them bump their prices another 50% or more.

I know Buck won't fix other peoples work, but if you can get the "same" knife for $200 less (or more) than the custom shop I think it's worth the chance.

Ummm...Not so, DarrylS...This thread is about 334dave letting everyone know the Custom Shop is still open......
threads are like any thing else ... they can change as needed...
to me there is not such thing as hijacked thread...
here we many times us this as we dont have a chat room... hint hint...
But 334dave seems to have a good working relation with Joe Houser -
I think 334dave knows more than he's telling us......

yup i talk with joe on hunting and fishing now and then...
wish i had recent storyes to swap...i know i could not keep up with him !

and i have also talked of the comeing meeting and of getting a few 112 repairs for my brother of Unique older 112 knives.. and some times of my own repairs.. also of were i worked at Ben Hogan Golf keeping equiptment running makeing wonderfull things some folks wanted, and of articals i plan to wright... one of which is "" were my buck custom come from "" or ""how it came to be...""
we are friends .... not confidants ...
i know from were i worked at hogan and bought in the company store some of the "parameters" that company store opperated under...
i have not discussed with joe thoes things which are company busness.. only things which i would need to know for my artical for the BCCI news letter after the shindig... i have a small mind bucket with lots of leaks so i have called him maybe to offten to be sure i have some thing right...
and i also have talked with Sarah and others on some of these same things...

but to have any one tell me that prices would increase as they did? NOT!
'B'cause ya wood'a see me a selling a lot o stuff so i could'a buy lota other NEW stuff!!
all i ever asked directly was if the 111 was a discontuned line like the 560 ... and that as it was also avabile as a custom once..
answer : if there is a good order for them more will be bult..
not unlike the 120 i think... not always produced but avable to comerical accounts...
and that is the extent of any insider information which if you or any one else asked you would have gotten the same answer i got.... no more no less ..
my feelings..
well i am as cought off guard as you guys..
i did kinda sorta expect a small price increase as that is normal every so offten...

no i was not expecting the high amount on the nicer things...
so i ask my self what could be the reason for what we seen,,,
i dont like it either but will wate to see what they say...

i DO belive in letting them know what we think...
only a good friend would tell you if you had up set them..
thoes that are not friends will turn jest walk away with out an attempt to save the relationship!!!..
that you guys are staying here and voiceing is a good thing as that means you have hope...
i hope you hold on to your hope of saveing your relationship with OUR favrite knife company! feed back is a good thing ....
some one did have to tell the king he was not wareing any clothes right?
any more questions?

Dave

RANT ALERT!!!

I am really pissed off every time I hear a certain person [not from here] start in on how "The Beatles" revolutionized music... :grumpy:

It was people like Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Eddie Cochran, Bo Diddley, and Elvis who *revolutionized* music...The Beatles just cashed in on it...

I am still in search of a large [4 x 8] "Elvis the Matador" black velvet throw for my living room wall... ;)

Ok, reality check.

Last year I bought a few Custom Shoppe knives. Why?

Because I saw them as a great bargain.....and one that probably wouldn't last.

I was right. I wish I'd bought more.

But the fact is......those prices were ridiculously LOW and couldn't last.

I do agree it would have been classy for them to give us a head's up.

But I doubt any knowledgeable person here would call the old prices realistic.

They were far too low. Are other U.S.A made price hikes on the way?

Yes, I bet they are.

well i sorta felt the same way...
i have bought the BCCI issues of 110 and 111
and i realy wanted a MOP some thing...
and planed on ordering one at the shindig for memory reasons..
but now...
i have so many issues that now i have a good collection and was able to start ordering from the custom shop... one every 4 to 5 weeks ...

belive me guys it hit me as hard as it did you guys...
if i can not afforde the new ones then it is from thoes i can afford maybe..
man i dont want to do that... :(

i would hope that we can order thorught the club!!!
wate and see... and hope..
or learn to do them my self...

I find it hard to believe we are getting the cold shoulder from the knife company who quotes its customers as 'PART OF THE FAMILY"

I think if somebody stepped up to the plate and adressed this issue of blackballing us,we could accept it and move on ,no?

well MHO i dont think it is black balling ... i know they do care about us ...
i also know there are things about busness that over ride some things..
we dont know the full story yet ... some how i feel there is more then one reason for what we seen happen... and as i said letting them know how you feel is not a bad thing... perhapps we will find they had to for some reasons we dont know yet...
it also may turn out that BCCI members may get to order via the disturbetor for the club like the club knives now which ARE ALL MADE ON THE SAME CELL LINE as the LE 119 and LE's for cabbles and bate pro
NOW i am sure that cell is not looseing money...
but it could be that to stop the line and set up to make one knife or two is
NOT profitable!!!
if that be the case then surely it could be aranged that once a mounth or 4 times a year that club members could place a order for a custom made to order were the line is set up for the club order customs for a day or two....
we can only hoope!!!
btw: i cannot get to the cs page any more... link i get is:
http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?event=customKnife.build
does this work for any one else? or do you get a diffrent linky?
dat dat dats all folks !

Now I know this is a really radical idea...but has anyone tried actually *calling* the Custom Shop and confirming the price on the custom 110 you want???

Yes, I bet they are.

You know....you have a bit of a point. Some of the knife prices through the custom shop are higher, but understandable. There are some extreme exceptions though. If I were to want to buy a 110 with S30V steel and stag scales, I'd have to pay something like $380 for it. THAT is extreme and way over priced. If I were to want to get a 110 with the same stag scales along with a Damascus steel blade...now I'm looking at $576. Damascus blade and the Paua scales would top out at $1228. I might as well start loking at Yellowhorse, painted pony and others that make great custom 110's for a lot less

Is there anyone other than me that thinks that Buck really blew it by adopting these price increases two months before the 20 year BCCI anniversary??

Dave, The link you posted above takes me directly to the CS page. It works. You might want to try quitting your browser and relaunching it then trying again.....but you probably already did that.

...It's not just that Mike...People in general just do not have the "spare" change they had even a short year ago. Petroleum prices have not just kicked up gasoline and diesel fuel, it's affected food, wages, utility costs and on and on. People are not buying the "frills and extras" that they used to buy. Many businesses down here are lowering item costs to the consumer just to get them to come into the stores to buy. A sure way to eliminate a heck of a lot of customers is to jack up the prices...especially now. A Buck knife is NOT an "I need it" item...it's an "I want it" item. At these prices I don't want it...and I won't/can't buy it...JMHO
( at the new prices I wouldn't have bought last year either )

I agree 100% Darryl. The point I was attempting to make is I think they are going to get an ear full at the anniversary event.

But the fact is......those prices were ridiculously LOW and couldn't last.

Actually, no they were not.

Once again, keep in mind that "custom" 110's were in reality, made almost entirely of mass produced stock parts, with only the handle materials and if you chose, the blade steel (still mass produced), being different than a stock 110.

A stock 110 running an average of $35.00-$40.00, should not with the addition of stag scales and 154CM, jump to $374.00 i.e. a 1000% increase.

I agree 100% Darryl. The point I was attempting to make is I think they are going to get an ear full at the anniversary event.
...I now understand where you were coming from Mike. There are times I notice that my emotions take over my "typing finger"...LOL:o
