Bushcraft UK - 2nds "heads-up"

Maaaaan, I really hope I get mine. Currently trying to contact the store. I ordered one right after I heard about this. Just got the USPS notification today that it was delivered at 1133am today. Problem is, it said delivered to Golden CO (different Zip than origin in Golden)... but I don't live in Golden... or in CO. So I'm quite confused.

Just got mine a little while ago and I can't wait to put it to some use. It's truly an amazing piece, I hope there are many more to come.

Got mine today. I am just wondering if it is made in taiwan if it is actually true O-1 or Taiwans version of O-1? Was the O-1 exported for manufacture along with the Maple?

OK I found out the hard way.

Wood filler = NO
Super glue = YES

The cracks disappear with super glue & are accented by the filler even when I matched the color. I took some pics, will post later.

I went and picked one up at the SFO, some of them have some GREAT looking wood. So sad seeing the pile of boxes that are all 2nds. I am glad I got another one for a user as I have another one with my CC# that has zero cracks.

Super glue is the way to go, that's how most knife makers fill cracks and voids in wood.

Looks like you're right around the corner from me, anti-torsion. It's sure nice to be able to head right to the factory outlet isnt it? :D

I agree - I looked through half a dozen or so in the shop, and some of them were just downright gorgeous. I picked mine because I really liked the pattern on it, but also because the cracks are so small as to be barely noticeable. There were many great looking Bushcraft UKs there though.

I can relate to that sentiment, so much so that I felt compelled to order a 2nd knife now. I pulled the trigger on the first the day Sal announced it. I just have to have another. So, that pile will have one less after tonight....
I have some plans to fill any cracks in the handles with some copper and some additional equipment purchased from a lapidary store. I hope my idea works...I feel a project coming on!

I've already jumped aboard (Thanks Porc) and am expecting delivery on the 4th. I keep seeing pictures I may have to log back into the site and order another... I need to breath and control myself, the dollars need to stay in my hands right now.

From what I'm reading, it looks like super glue is the best way to go so far on filling the cracks, right?

I lost control and ordered a 2nd one. I hope you're stronger than me.

A friend just got one and I got to look at the handle. It's cracked in multiple places, very wide in some spots and a lot of shrinkage. The blade is wicked sharp, and the sheath is well made. Overall, its not a bad deal.

Forgot to mention, the wood is very beautiful! It's unfortunate that it's cracked, I will pass along the info about superglue. Who is Phillip Dobson, and how can I get in contact with him?

I received my Spyderco Bushcraft yesterday. There are only two small cracks visible, one on each side of the handle.

For comparison, I've photographed it next to my A. Wright & Sons of Sheffield knife, which I also just received last month and have not yet had a chance to put through its paces. The Spyderco model has a thinner blade by about 1mm or 1.5mm, but the Spydie's ergonomics are superior, at least in my fat paw. (Not that I have any complaints about the Wright model).

MG_Saldivar, I think you got one of the better ones. I'll bet that sucker closes up nicely in a higher humidity climate. Good luck.

Probably so... But I live 18 miles from the Spydie HQ so I won't know unless I move to a more humid climate.

(Since I grew up in south Texas, I prefer Colorado, no matter what it does to 'stabilized' wood. :p)

I had Paul and Rachel bring out a couple stacks of boxes for me to look through. I ended up getting mine because my lady liked the pattern :D

The cracks are not all that bad, some super glue and she will be good as new. Rachel said some she saw were just terrible, others you could barely tell. I wanted to take them all and give them a good home but they wouldn't have it. :p

Mine arrived today. Beautiful patterns in the wood, only a simple crack on both sides by the first pin, it will glue up nicely. The wood is slightly shrunken away from the tang, also not a problem.

I don't remember them measuring my hand but the grip fits that well. :)
