"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

Hospital IT departments can vary, when I was younger, i volunteered for the VA hospital and so many sites were blocked because its a government joint. I now work for one of the big hospitals in nyc and their list of blocked sites vary. One of my coworkers did warn me once when I was ebaying knives to be careful, but nothing came of it.

Hey guy's sorry to have bugged out for while. Had some complications with my surgery and just haven't felt like even posting. Things are doing much better now and hopefully will get to go home tomorrow.
Glad to hear that Randy. You had us a little nervous there for awhile! Get better soon!

Randy, it's great to see you posting again. Glad to hear things are going better. I'm looking forward to the report that you're posting from home. :)

Hey Randy, thanks for dropping by, we're all rooting for you buddy :)

Glad you're doing better, Randy !

Regarding IT blocks... If you use Google Remote Desktop or a similar free service to access a home computer, you can surf whatever you want. The local network is just connecting you to your home computer. Your home computer network is actually doing the browsing. Of course, it may not be a good idea to browse the sites anyway if they are not welcome at your location. Use your best judgement and maybe some discretion. But it can be helpful.

Good to see you back, Todd!
We're all kind of like new kids on the block trying to get used to the new BF software.
Looking forward to seeing pics of some of your knives, and how about that dog? I'll bet he doesn't look much like a puppy anymore!

I heard from Randy's granddaughter today. He is home and resting. His surgery didn't exactly go as planned. They were able to repair some of his more serious issues, but not all that he and they were hoping for.
I'm sure he will be in touch when he's feeling a bit better, but for now please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Randy is such a good friend to so many here. I just want him to know that we're still thinking of him and hoping for the best.

Good to see you guys again. Barlow is getting bigger. He weighed in at 40lbs. yesterday and he turns 6mo. this week, so he's still got a got of growing to do. I had him out on a trail today. I've definitely been riding a desk too long.

Thanks for the update on Randy Bob

Good to see you back Todd

I think Bob's last post is as much as we know.

Hello Todd. Randy has been living with some very serious health issues. He was finally approved to have surgery to hopefully repair many of those issues. Some were successful, some were not. So unfortunately he will have to live with those they could not fix. He and I share many similar health problems. Randy is such a great guy and friend to know. It's truly a gift that I've come to know him.

Barlow is a great looking pup. :D

Man, I hate hearing this about Randy. He's a good guy. Thank you for keeping us posted, Bob. Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while.

Thanks for all the compliments on Barlow too everyone. I'll pass them along. :D

Bob Loveless had many good quotes, but one that is becoming more true with what I am seeing is this, "A knife is a tool, and if we don't treat our tools with a certain familiar contempt, we lose perspective." When I see two GEC's sell for the price of a handmade knife by Tom Overeynder, who is one of the finest knife makers alive, I just shake my head.

Is it strange that new profile posts are listed publicly on the front page? I see email addresses and tracking numbers being shown on the front page. Seems counter productive to post them in the profile instead of the discussion forum if they are going to show up on the front page. Just trying to understand the new system.

That is a bit strange. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to notice it before. Maybe you should post it in Tech Support, Jake. It might be something Spark would want to remove from the front page. The visitor messages were always available for all members to see in the past if you clicked on someone's profile page, so that in itself isn't a change. Not sure whether or not they are visible to guests. I would hope not.

I use the mobile format from my "dummy" phone and don't see anything about profile unless I click a specific users name
