"Carl's Lounge" (Off-Topic Discussion, Traditional Knife "Tales & Vignettes")

That is a bit strange. I hadn't scrolled down far enough to notice it before. Maybe you should post it in Tech Support, Jake. It might be something Spark would want to remove from the front page. The visitor messages were always available for all members to see in the past if you clicked on someone's profile page, so that in itself isn't a change. Not sure whether or not they are visible to guests. I would hope not.
I just looked at the main page without logging in on my phone, and yes, I can read profile posts. I can also view member's profile pages without being logged in, and I'm pretty certain it didn't work that way on the old format.

Thanks, Rachel. I just logged out and tried it myself. I couldn't view everyone's profile page. When I logged back in, I went into the Privacy settings and made some changes. It seems that the default setting is to allow 'all visitors' to see that information. It can be changed to 'members only'.

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. I went to the main page and selected a profile post at random, to see if it would take me to their profile page, which it did. I wonder if a member's visitor messages would show there if they had their privacy settings set to "members only"

I missed the privacy settings. I see. But if you are posting an email address or tracking number, I'm not sure how you would know if the other user's account is public (and shows up on the front page) unless you logged out and checked their profile page. I suspect most folks probably have it on the default public setting.

The more I use this new forum software, the less I like it. I notice it much more after I visit another forum that uses the same forum software that we used to have here.

What's more weird: that I've moved my keys to my watch pocket so that I can have any pocketknife in my RFP without worry of scratching, or that it took me this long to do it? :D

I only carry a couple of keys, so I replaced the metal key ring that held them with a loop of leather cord tied with an Oysterman's stopper knot that dangles just outside the pocket. That change made the keys both comfortable to carry in the watch pocket and easy to access without digging. I wish I'd thought of it sooner!

Greg, I'm glad you made a change that's working out better for you.

Trying to figure out the optimal way to allocate your collection of objects to be carried among the pockets in which the objects are to be carried is an example of a "bin-packing problem". :D I think there's a long history of research into that type of problem.

I need an IT person to help me sort this place out. It shouldn't be so difficult!

Meanwhile, I just checked in to a hotel in Ottawa, Ont, for my niece's wedding. While in town I am going to go hunting in antique and other likely stores. My goal is to bring back an artifact or two (dare I say knife or two? Don't want to jinx!) in between festivities, from Canada's Capitol!
Will post my catch here, if any!

I've been meaning to post an update on our friend Randy Redden. I talked to him a couple days ago, but I've been having some of my own issues. Today was a much better day.
Randy was released from the hospital and home, but that only lasted a day or so. It seems that he developed a very bad infection in his wrist where they had -laced an IV PICC line. So he landed back in the hospital immediately. Apparently they had to do surgery on his wrist to clean right down to the bone to remove all the infection. We talked a bit until one of his Dr's came into the room and he had to cut our conversation short. He hasn't posted anything obviously due to the complications, but I also think he was feeling a bit down because the original surgery didn't go quite as planned and hoped for. He told me the only good side to being back in the hospital is that he's in one close to home so family can come visit any time instead of driving three hours where the other hospital was.
Still pulling for you Pal. Hope you're home and well soon.

And the results can be counter intuitive. I believe I saw a paper that asked that question involving coins. The results indicated that a barrel of dimes produced more money than any other American coin.

I've been thinking about both of you, Bob and Randy, lately, and I'm hoping for better days soon for both of you. Continually sending good vibes y'all's way.

Thanks for the update, Bob. Please let Randy know we're thinking of him and sending good thoughts his way.

Good luck to your niece and her young man Charlie, and hope you and Joanne have a lovely time. Happy hunting too my friend, and look forward to seeing your haul
