I was wondering what caused my attitude to shift sometimes .

Here are my two Peanuts. I love them both. The first is my granddaughter. She really is tiny and I started calling her my little peanut, which for some reason she thinks is hilarious. She's good for my soul.
The second is my Case Peanut which is also good for my soul but in a much different way;)

It seems that my Photobucket pics are still up for now but, I have not logged in to my PB account recently. I quit using it a few months back due to the fact that it would frequently cause my browser to crash on the rare occasions that the site wasn't down for maintenance. I've been using Flickr since then and it's so much faster and easier to use. I'm tempted to delete my PB bookmark and the app from my phone so I can't accidentally click on them. Hopefully that will at least keep the pics in my previous posts. It is disappointing to think of all the valuable info that may be lost here due to this.

Just posted this in Tech, thought I'd re-post it here:

When I first started posting pics on BF, I used Imageshack, it was very simple, and free. Then a couple of years in, they decided they were going to start charging for the service. They promised that all previously uploaded images would still be hosted though. They lied.

Like most users, I didn’t think much to the BF upload software at the time, and the general consensus seemed to be that Photobucket was the way to go, so I set up a PB account, and started using that. PB was OK for a while, but over the years, the problems with it seemed to get worse, so I experimented with other services. I set up an Imgur account a couple of years ago, but didn’t like it so much, so I’ve mainly used it when PB has been down. I’ve also used Google, and one or two others.

Around a year ago, PB just went crazy with pop-up ads, to the point it was virtually unusable, and on the recommendation of one of our mods, I decided to upgrade to an ‘Ad-Free’ account. This was $9.99 a year, but I see it’s stealthily increased to $2.49 a month. Since then though, I’ve not had too many problems with PB – until now! My PB pics are still showing, but how long for remains to be seen.

Imgur seems to be the hosting service people are now recommending, just as they were Photobucket in the past, but I’m unconvinced Imgur won’t behave, in the future, just as Photobucket and Imageshack did. The same goes for Google. The new BF upload software seems to work OK, but it has limitations, and may also be subject to future changes which could kill the pre-existing links.

I think what PB have done is despicable, and I don’t want to give my money to a company who behaves like this, so I guess my pics are going to come down when I kill my account, if not before. I mainly post in Traditional, and post a lot of pics there. I’ve also posted a lot of threads in the past which relate to knife history. The only reason I’ve stuck with PB is to keep the pics in those threads in place, but the recent BF software changes has already scrambled the text on mine and every other pre-existing thread. The worst thing about it is that there’s no way to re-edit old threads, where posts exceed the new limit, so even if I upload all my pics to Imgur, I can’t edit the new links into those posts. Editing some of those threads would be a lot of work, but I’d do it if there were a way.

Figured I'd spend today starting to re-edit my posts in the Guardians of the Lambsfoot thread, to take account of the BF software changes and upload my pics directly to BF. Tedious enough as it is, but by page 3 the BF advanced edit ('More options') page had stopped working for me - this emoji really doesn't sum up how I feel about it

Edit - Seems the page is being blocked by Chrome because it has some 'unusual code'!

I appreciate you taking the trouble to try editing your historical threads, Jack. I don't know that I'd have it in me to do that. I'll likely re-edit a few posts of mine in the old knives thread, but I'm waiting until things shake out as far as what's the best way.

Uploading pictures directly from my computer is working well, and I like the idea of not being vulnerable to the next image hosting site to go belly-up. I have not yet gotten a definitive answer as to if there is a limit to how many photos we may upload.

I'll do what I can r8shell, but it's time-consuming and rather mind-numbing - I've just edited 20 pages of my posts in the Guardians thread  Do you think we'll survive Spark spilling coffee on his PC at BFHQ? ;) :D  There's an incentive for editing pics in the Guardians thread, and a window of a month (see my sig line) ;)

Aha! Well, the upload worked:thumbsup:

And you all got to see my chocolate torte! :D ;)

r8shell r8shell and Jack Black Jack Black I have four images uploaded directly, but I cannot find anything that tells me how much space I am using up. I read that we are allowed up to 20mb, which isn't really that much for you long time BF's. Maybe 150 photos? I'm using Imgur but like you all I don't trust these ad supported sites. They could easily go bust or do what PB did. I have photos posted on Flickr too. It's a little more difficult to link, but I don't think it will go away as it's part of Yahoo (now Verizon). Who knows ?

Jack I use Flickr and have no issues so far. PB had been giving me fits for at least two years.

Thanks for the tip Jerry

I have to say I am finding the direct upload a little clunky, and sad to say, based on my experience of BF, I don't trust it not to all go 'wrong' at some point :( I'm using it to replace my pics in the Guardians thread, and hope I don't have to go through the whole thing again at some point

The direct upload doesn't appear to offer as high a resolution.

So I had posted this really cogent explanation, went to edit the photo inserted below and lost the whole post. Does this new software contain an auto-save feature? If so, I can't find it. Anyway the question is, what does the 20mb limit apply to? Is it all images or only Media stored on BF? I'm going to use Flickr going forward which is how I posted this image. It is not as easy, I have found on a tablet as on a computer.
