Case Seahorse

Rick..... Nice Seahorse! Nice deep color to the covers on that one.

Eric..... Yours looks great too. Gotta love that worm groove.

Sorry - missed your comment before - Thanks and yes, the worm groove is really amazing - I'm not really digging the color scheme but I think it will grow on me because the jigging is just off the hook. Thinking of dying it a little darker, like maybe with some coffee.

Gary - the color and jigging on yours is simply amazing - kinda wish I got that one too!

(update: mine is really sharp out of the box - only my hawkbill pruner was this sharp brand new, the other 3 Case that I own needed sharpening right away. Haven't whittled anything yet - but when I do I'll post it here! lol)

And yes - onejim - that bird is beautiful!

Best

Eric

Probably not a bad idea on trying to even out that dye on the moss green one, didn't want to say but it does look murky with the brown rising to the surface, but good to hear she arrived sharp! that's a plus and overall it has a distinct look about it, you may want to hold off a while and see if it grows on you before you attempt something you can't come back from.

Eric thanks for the comment!

I'm really interests in your thoughts on using for whittling.

Thanks.

I'll have to get some basswood too and give that a go, been meaning to try my hand at that for some time.

And about carrying this, at 4" it really just a tad too long to sit in my watch pocket securely enough, don't want to put it in my main pocket, just because, so I'm working on a sheath for it and with the main blade's shape I think it'll snap into place nice and secure, that works well on these flatter type scales, a stag scale set, especially the way Case is known for making big ole fat stag scales, might now work as well, but for this one, should be sweet ;)

Well, the Red Stag Seahorse showed up this morning, I shot some fast inside the house cell phone pictures, Look how thick the stag is on this one, this one is also 4" long just like the Autumn Jigged bone I just received, even though it has a different model number, the stag really feels good in your hand because it's so much thicker than the jigged bone.

Nice sir, and what timing, I just mentioned how Case's stag can sometimes be pretty fat, but yours isn't as fat as some I've seen, I've gotten a peanut stag that was ridiculous, had to send it back and I'm pretty sure they ended up sending me the very same one back again, they deny it and I should have taken photos of the original one, but it was crazy fat stag on that thing!

I had no idea that Case did their stag so fat - I can imagine your plump peanut, Gary!

RICKSTER - another nice one - looks like it will fill the hand nicely!

Wow! That does have a pretty good swell in the center. Very nice! The color is great too! You did good on both counts.

Indeed, Case does some pretty wild stag scales sometimes, here is the sheath I made today for my Seahorse, being 4" it's a bit long knife, and in order to get the knife in and out of the sheath, you can see I needed to start the fold just enough so it will retain but not be too hard to insert. Knife has a nice snap fit into the sheath, the leather wraps around and the belt loop folds down behind the sheath and is sewn at the bottom, so it's like leather origami ;)

That thick stag center would be a tough one to sheath up I think!

Wow that's some great work on the sheath!

If you keep showing pics of that knife. .... .im gonna end up with one.

Jim

Thanks guys I'll get a better photo of it and maybe a short video too.
Makes it handier to access and return.

Nice sheath .
I think it looks good when he contours of the knife allow for minimum dept of the sheath .
Everything that I've made lately has had to be a really deep sheath to achieve good retention .
That Sea Horse pattern is really growing on me , who knows I might have to invest .

Thanks Ken, it's a very nice knife, here's a few more images,

Nice that you have a 4 inch handle, and those two smaller blades allow for some nice detail work, so your hand has a little better control, at least I think it does.

Awesomely fantastic sheath and knife :thumbup:, but the most amazing thing to me was that you can fashion something like that in a single day!! :D:eek::D

Actually about 2 days in total, but yep, wanted to get it finished up so I could wear it come Monday, the watch pocket wasn't working out, in fact the knife was working it's own way OUT of the pocket, so I was concerned on losing it or it dropping out when I went to sit down.

and thanks :) the vertical sheaths are not as long to make as the horizontal style ones are.

edited add, it was a long day and a LATE nite too ;)

Gary

It's not easy to see from the pictures , but did you use your trick of putting in the shelf - welt at the base of the belt loop ?
I must admit I've stolen your idea of doing that on a couple of sheaths , and it is a great innovation and adds a extra touch to the sheath and its performance .
