Doug Ritter RSK Knife Announcement

By the way, the "AXIS" is in (as long as you don't call it "AXIS"). That patent has expired and is fair game for everyone.

I am aware of it, but figure that most knife companies appear to have a gentleman's agreement of sorts, which is why we aren't seeing a bunch of knives from other major makers now utilizing it.

I disagree but only time will tell. The patent has barely expired.

Spyderco won't use it ... unless it's in a Sage some years down the road. ZT won't use it but they only do frame and liner locks anyway.

Everyone else, I won't be shocked one single bit. Millit is already doing one for Massdrop. The big and small Chinese manufacturers only have a tenuous hold on the concept of Intellectual Property as it is. I don't expect them to abide by some "gentleman's agreement" of which we have no actual evidence among US manufacturers.

Well, again, I just don't expect the big guys to use it anytime soon. The Chinese manufacturers...no comment. And of course there's no actual evidence, it's just a theory I have.

I also think some companies have designed their own axis-like locking mechanism so no real need to use the benchmade version.

That's true. In any case, not a real gamechanger for me personally, because I don't love the AXIS lock and never have. And hey, if this new knife arrives and it has that lock, well it'll just speak further to my point that I don't think we're going to see much real deviation from the Benchmade RitterGrips.

I mean if knifeworks doesn't want to reveal it until it's good to go, then that's cool with me. Available that day of the reveal.. I wish more knife companies do this.

I guess based on comments, some people are excited about this offering while others not so much. That’s cool, to each their own.

Personally, I am interested in seeing what this turns out to be. If I like it, I’ll buy it. If not, nothing lost.

I don’t, and never have expected this to be something new or game changing. I’ve had a number of Ritters come and go over the years. I like them quite a bit, always thought it was a solid knife. Personally, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a knife and thought, holy shit, I’ve got to have that. But, much like a handful of other production knives, there are possibilities with the new Ritter that could be appealing so in that sense, I am certainly interested in how this new one turns out.

Maybe, but I have my doubts. Takes some time to design a knife, especially one with a new (to your company) locking mechanism. Hogue, Millit and, it looks like, Wilkins have all dropped Axis clones and I wouldn't be surprised to see others follow suit.

I honestly think it's a good thing, overall, as it gives companies one more tool to use.

There’s something about that style of jimping and the cutouts on the thumb studs that looks familiar but I can’t place it.
The thumb stud on the new Ritter's blade - https://www.knifeworks.com/kw-exclusives/doug-ritter-new-folder-preorder-knifeworks-exclusive.html looks like the studs on the Hogue H&K Exemplar's Pivot Lock - https://www.bladehq.com/item--HK-Exemplar-Pivot-Lock-Knife-Black--80680. Hogue uses push button locks on many of their own knives, so maybe that mysterious second photo in the Knife Works announcement is a push button lock. If it's Hogue, that would have the new Ritter made in USA by the same company that now makes the H&K knives after Benchmade also quit doing their contract mfg. Does my rambling make sense to anyone else?

They look similar, but they aren't the same studs. I could imagine Hogue making them nonetheless.

So, if I understand, they don’t have a list of collector names, but if you have a serial numbered knife, that gives you the “right” to that number.

But if you’ve sold some or all of your numbered knives, someone else can claim that number too. Whoever has the most of any one number “owns” than number.

And then there are the rest of us.

I’ll look at it, but I’m not excited over it.

I have an almost new black bladed DR Mini Grip I put Kevin Wilkins scales on.

Are you looking to trade or sell the Mini Grip? o_O
