Dual Survival

I can't think of a more poorly designed attempt at a multipurpose tool

mtangent......why would you not want to be flailing away with a sharp chunk of steel, edge towards you, scrambling up a hill.....makes sense to me!!!!

if anyone has ever skinned anything have a good look at just how you would use that little abortion coming off the handle without the whole blade f'ing things up.

It is clearly not a Gladius Hunter. That would be way too short.
There are two threads in this subforum dealing with this show. They should be merged and some people should use the search function.
Grahams knife has a blue handle and is most probably a Condor Jungle Bowie with a reground blade.

From a dyed-in-the-wool couch potato, Discovery struck out. Strike one was firing Dave; strike two was hiring a crude variant of Bear Grylls; and strike three was firing Cody. Teti is a braggard - I can't help help but wonder if his twenty years of service was verified - after Dave, you'd think that would be important. I guess, with Mikail Hawke as his ex-commander, they had one reference. I have respect for Hawke - at least he landed a lovely and talented wife. Their show was entertaining, if nothing else, as a demonstration of how close a couple can get to needing marriage counseling in a survival show. But I want education - instruction - as well as entertainment. Teti doesn't bring that to the table. Les, Cody, Dave, Mike & Ruth, and even Grylls, in that order, at least did that.

I wish Matt well - and if the show continues - and they can Joe Teti - I may watch it again. But, until that time... "I will compromise their mission"!

Looks like 8 inches of blade left after the regrind with the handle wrapped and the guards cut a tad smaller.

I like Matt a lot. Really has a lot of skills and a great respect for nature. Joe is just useless at this point I think. He makes some dumb choices and his attitude sucks.

They are following the script and the director's instructions.

You mean climbing BACK down into a cave by yourself after you are exhausted and becoming dehydrated isn't a good idea? REALLY?? BUT! He said he needed the lenses because his partner can't make fire by.... oh wait....and Matt even said he could make fire without it? hmmmm

I always trust Joe to do something stupid.

I don't think director's could write all the stupid stuff that Joe says and does. lol I guess it was all those years and years and years and years of combat that trained him to think and act like that.

Exactly.

And I laughed so hard this episode when Joe had those 3 little eggs cooking and Matt came into camp with two fish ready for the fire. haha.

Matt is someone that I think would be fun to be around in nature. He sees the beauty in every situation so he can stay positive. Joe however acts like they are in Hell and have to get out ASAP whatever the cost. And kill any living animal he comes across.

Just insane.

I do believe you're right. I just took a closer look at it thanks to your pics.
I wonder why he reground it? Possibly broken or he didnt like the big pointy end.

One thing both my wife and I noticed is that every time he calls her by rank such as "seargant wifey," he always gives her a lesser rank than his. I thought that was really telling about the guy and is probably the source of the friction between the two of them.

I catch episodes or parts of episodes now and then On Discovery. I try my best to ignore my instinct that Cody L. strikes me as a semi effeminate hippy North American aboriginal wannabe, that runs around stupidly bare foot. The man has forgotten more than I've ever known about outdoor survival, but I would rather be with his previous partners, Teti and Canterbury in a bad spot. I prefer the no ....ing around practical approach of his partners. But to each their own. I view the show as half entertainment and half topic related mental stimulation. The shear fact that Cody locks horns and argues\debates the merits of their decisions is useful to me. This may actually be the more useful aspect of the show,...out of the box thinking in these hypothetical scenarios.

On Cody's facebook page he gives the reason for going barefoot. He's all about not having to rely on stuff and shoes are a part of that. He gave reference to being taken prisoner and the first thing they do is take your boots. This is something that happened in my city as late as the '40's. Men were kidnapped, dragged down below the street, locked up in a room without shoes and the floor covered with glass. I get it though I still wear shoes.
