For all you Spyderco fans!

thats hilarious, but no im not getting spyder's all up and down my arm...lol :p

Of course not...
It's still sort of a mistery what happened. She claims she fell asleep and woke up, only to find an entire half of her face tattooed and the guy claims she asked for it from the beginning......

Ouch.. hand? It looks like it was done freehand too.. Should be more symmetrical...

I have a pretty big tat on my leg (~4 hours) but I'd never get one somewhere I can't cover up. I'm surprised the shop even let you do that.

Then again, all that matters is that you're happy with it :).

Live and let let live I say. It looks awsome! To all you naysayers and rash judementalist..... Is it affecting you? No. Than STFU.

Yea, yea I know: Freedom of your right to your opinion. :D

Gee that's helpful, Kodiak...you are right, it isn't affecting us...good thing too, 'cause if it was my kid, I'd shave that tattoo off myself.

...but when the OP has a hard time in the future because no adults close to him took a firm stand and advised against this rash and STUPID decision, he may consider our studied words that come from experience, and think twice the next time he wants to do something STUPID and mostly permanent.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Personally I would have shown my appreciation for the brand by picking up another knife. However at the end of the day it is your choice and if you are satisfied with it then that's what matters.

BTW if I may ask why the hand? How come not a more concealable location on the body like the arm etc.

If you have to ask the question, then you won't understand the answer. But I digress, great tat!

That's dedication, congratulations and happy birthday.

There needs to be someone named Benchmad3 to show their dedication with one of these tattooed. ;)

Interesting, I've seen several girls with that tattoo, only minus the word. :p

It's a brand that he has tattooed on his hand. Granted, Spyderco has a cool logo but would you tattoo a Mercedes or Ferrari logo just cause you really like the brand? It's in a spot for the whole world to see....permanently!
You don't think he might be like most knifenuts? I know that I went through a lot of different brands and styles of knives before I realised I liked too many of them to prefer one over the other. Maybe next year he's completely enamored with benchmade...and then...a butterfly on his other hand?
Maybe nowadays people are much more open to that sort of thing but I don't know.....

I think giving an honest opinion rather than just being a "yes man" is an important part of a discussion forum. Telling people to "STFU," on the other hand, doesn't add to the discussion at all.

Yes, SOME people are. But the open-mindedness of SOME might not be enough to keep Spyderc0 from being unduly judged for having made a foolhardy decision to go and get his hand tattooed.

For example:
I personally wouldn't let a tattoo on a hand -- extremely bad idea though it is -- keep me from hiring someone I thought was otherwise qualified for a job beyond anyone else I interviewed. And I work in business settings where people dress to impress.

Having said that, my bosses -- 20 to 30 years my senior -- would definitely have a problem with a hand tattoo, and in hiring someone with one, not only would the person with the tattoo come under scrutiny, but I would too, for having hired them.

Generally speaking, I have enough going on for bosses to scrutinize without having to worry about their judgements regarding someone I just hired. Thus, my progressive views would quite likely get trumped by my bosses' traditional views.

My point is that even though social mores are constantly changing, it takes a long time for new views to become pervasive.

Spyderc0, while I do think your tattoo is a bad idea, I don't think that you are doomed because of it -- not like those who disfigure their ears with those huge posts, anyway. Unless, of course, you have those, too. :D

Regardless, I wish you a happy birthday and many more to come.

Really, it depends on what you plan to do with your life. I have a sleeve, but in my line of work it does not affect me being hired. My brother has full sleeves and one hand done and he is a superintendent for a highly regarded construction company. I doubt this kid plans on being a stock broker if he got this done. But if he does then ya, hes screwed.

Hi Spyderc0 -

I'll spare you the lecture on the placement of your tattoo.

I think it is a cool tat in the wrong place.

I did not let my kids do anything permanent to their bodies until they were out of my house and making it on their own.

Now I only offer "advice", and in most cases, only if it is asked for.

You are 18 and a voting adult now, and if you want to put a tatoo on your forehead I support your right to do so.

Congrats on your 18th birthday - enjoy yourself!

best regards -

I guess if your happy with it, thats all that matters. Hopefully you'll still be happy with it in 30 years.

Happy Birthday:thumbup:

So I can't give my opinion? What is he going to do when people say it to his face. I already stated I am good with tattoos since I have many hours of work myself but on your hand at 18 years old is just irresponsible. I can hide mine but you can't hide your hand.
