For all you Spyderco fans!

Really, it depends on what you plan to do with your life. I have a sleeve, but in my line of work it does not affect me being hired. My brother has full sleeves and one hand done and he is a superintendent for a highly regarded construction company. I doubt this kid plans on being a stock broker if he got this done. But if he does then ya, hes screwed.

I know plently of people with hand tattoos that do just fine in life. Good jobs, well adjusted and plenty happy. I do know a guy that got his knuckles tattooed when he was a teenager and while he does well as a graphic designer he's had them covered up and then partially removed. He regrets the words he got more than the fact that they were on his hands.

I have already posted that I am tattooed and that I don't think it's a great idea to start off on the hand but I blame the shop more that Spyderc0. With that being said (again) a hand tattoo will fade a lot in 30 years, provided Spyderc0 washes his hands on a regular basis. Plus if the only job he can get is changing oil and he has to use pumice soap to scrub off the oil and grease the tattoo's days will be numbered.

Uh...hey buddy...there's a Tick on yer hand....

No really, nice tat. Spyderco's logo still looks more like a Tick to me though.

I have had people say that it looks stupid, it looks dumb, right to my face, and you know what i said, "i dont care what you think," and thats what im going to say to all of you, because if you dont have any positive feedback for it then keep all of your negative comments to yourself because it DOESNT affect you so dont even worry about it. I got it in a place where i can always look at it and im obviously not going to be a broker or anything like that. Im into art and knives so putting the two together to get a job with this kind of tattoo wont be very hard and im already going to college for graphic design. Thanks for all of the people who actually find my tattoo to be cool and what not, but if you dont like it, then got find another thread to post on, because you arent helping. Thanks :) and my mom took me to get it, so yea, w/e

nice tat!
i'd tell you to ignore the judgement passers - but obviously you already live free from them.

You posted this on a public forum, what did you think was going to happen? Fuzzy wuzzy wabbits and wainbows? You will always get positive and negative comments about things, that's just the way forums work.

And if you really don't care what others think then you shouldn't care if people think it is a bad idea. I'm not that much older than you and I think it is a terrible idea personally. Whether you meant to or not you just associated yourself with gang bangers and felons in prison. Most people aren't going to see a spyder or a company logo, they are going to see what literally looks like a jail house tattoo. That's not going to change no matter how hip and progressive the country becomes.

Good luck with everything and hopefully you can get a job with the degree you are working for. It would probably only be 2 or 3 grand to get it removed so it's not the end of the world when one day you realize the limits it puts on you.

Part of posting on a forum populated by a majority of adults(usually adults with jobs, because knives cost money;)) is that to be respected and listened to, you have to act like an adult....and you are not.

You are acting like a child..."fine, people tell me I look stupid, and I don't care"..to paraphrase.

You are saying it all right there, Spyderc0, so I will say in return, good luck with your future, you will need it(more than most):(.

Just an aside. Is there some sort of law about this stuff, since so many remarks were made about being counseled, parent's permission etc.?

I have a 20 yr old daughter who wants a tatoo and I'm fighting a battle about it - and losing. If I can spring a law on her, it may just slow her down to think about it. Her friends are getting them and she wants one too.

I personally would never do it but that's because I'm too fickle and would want to scrape it off about a 1/2 hour later.

A lot of my friends and my 2 stepsons have them and they're great so long as they're on them and not me.

I support his right to have a flippin multi-color, spiked Mohawk, eye, ear, nose, lip rings, and tats. I just wouldn't get one myself.

PS: Salty Dog, you didn't answer my PM?

PSS: FlaMtnBkr: Thinking about what you mentioned.

Most if not all States outlaw tattoos on anyone younger than 18. Some will let you do 16 or 17 year olds with written permission from adult guardian, and that means bring Mom, Dad or legal guardian to the shop in person, not a note from home.:)

If that is directed towards myself, no PM has been gotten, sorry.

That's less than $24,000/year before taxes, assuming you work full time....try living on that money....rent, utlilities, car.....doesn't go very far.

wow.. you sir are unbelievable. even for an internet forum

The bottom line is: What's done is done...

The OP likes the tattoo. However, it could potentially be an issue for his career going forward. (Even if it the career is in graphic design.)

Going forward, the suggestion is to *completely* think these types of decisions/actions through. Not just with the shorter-term "I want" perspective, but what will the longer-term impact be for a decision made now.

The good news is that tattoo removal (laser or otherwise) seem to be improving and are more effective today and at any time prior. So, if the OP does need to have it removed for any reason in the future, it's an option.

Regards,
Mike

Actually, I am completely believeable, in spite of it being an internet forum.

I'm in my 40's, and fully remember how full of s**t I was at 18, and have a 3/4 length sleeve on my left arm, and coverage from my knee to ankle on right leg.;)

Benchmade_butterfly_logo.jpg

Then their lawyers would be after you for copyright infringement! :D

I think that's exactly why the word "Benchmade" was left off the Benchmade tattoo Steve McQueen had in Papillon- fear of litigation.

I have a 20 yr old daughter who wants a tatoo and I'm fighting a battle about it - and losing.

Tell her some of the terms guys use to refer to tats on girls (tramp stamp, slag tag, Tijuana license plate, etc.) and the connotations of girls with tats, from a guys point of view. That might help her reconsider.

Did she say what part of her body she wants it on?
