GRAYMAN SATU Folder!! A BEAST!!!

I sharpen knives "professionally" also. Check out my YouTube channel. :)

I will probably ask for an unsharpened blade. Thanks for the info.

ETA: I put quotations around professionally to indicate that I don't like using the word precessional, not as a jab at anyone else. :)

I talked to a lady on their listed phone. She "gave me the impression" that she'd take my order by phone. This might be more to your liking?

"STRIDERCO"YOUR THE IDIOT! You obviously don't understand what you read! There's nothing in that warranty statement that say the knife warranted in anyway! What? if the tip breaks they might sharpen it out if they can otherwise they'll charge you for a new blade. And the 30 day return policy doesn't mean you can use it for the 30 days and if you decided you don't it like send it back.NO! You have to send it back unused. Again!! Where in that statement does it state what's covered under the warranty on the knife. Does it say its warranted for manufacturing defects, what if the blade breaks will he replace it, for how long is the warranty. Did you read his fixed blade warranty? Two different warranty policies. I've already emailed them and Sue wrote back and stated it only has a 30 day return policy.

guys, dont feed the troll. just report his posts and let the mods take care of him.

Thanks! Let's not anyone sidetrack the topic.

Everyone is welcome to post. Disagreement is not a rules violation.

If you don't want to read those posts, put the person on Ignore. If the person's posts are out of line, report them and the moderators will deal with it.

I understand his position, but tact is obviously not knifenut22's strong suit.

I find the warranty language a bit vague as well.

I think their warranty is if you break it they d like to check it out because im not sure you can break one of these!? lol. I ll try to get out and take some pics maybe tom? My buddy cut through an old car tire with my one Satu!! I ve hacked at some wood. Ripped some rope like a hot knife thru butta! I agree they cud have a lawyer consult them on the details of their warranty. I know this is taken from their fixed blade warranty section but i bet the same goes with their folders! " You pay postage, and I'll sharpen her up and send her right back. If you break it (yeah right) send it back and I'll fix or replace it post haste. If you sell it, give it away, or will it to a family member or fave charity, the warranty goes with it." If someone breaks a Grayman please post! Id love to hear the story!!!

Ok Guys. Some of you felt I wasn't being tactful enough in my postings. First I want to clear something up here. I'm not bashing Grayman you see I own this knife and I like it its a great knife but I bought this knife with the assumption that its covered with the warranty stated in the post above and its not and I'm angry about it. Just like some of you guys assumed the same. Like I stated before I contacted them many times and they didn't answer me till I harassed enough till they answered me by stating it has the 30 day return which has to be returned in its original condition and if you break the tip they'll look at it to see if it can be sharpened out if not they'll give you a price for a new blade" and that's it. Unfortunately I had used the knife to where I couldn't returned it. I want people to be aware of this when thinking of purchasing this knife. There are many large folding knifemakers that will warrant their knives no matter what you do to it for the same price you pay for the Grayman Satu.

We think you're not being tactful enough because all of your posts have been bashing Grayman. Come back when you've actually contributed something legitimate and tell me, and I might be more inclined to pay attention. As is, it sounds a lot like most folding knife warranties. Sure, there are places that have better warranties. But coming in and crapping on someone's thread because you had a bad experience is in poor taste, and you've done that multiple times.

If you want to contribute to the thread, how about instead of complaining about the warranty, you tell us HOW you damaged your knife so badly that they won't help you, and what they're quoting for a new blade. Also, pics or it didn't happen.

I'm not sure if knife22 has ever stated that he damaged his Satu, or I missed it in his wall-o-text posts? I'd agree that his posts thusfar and the word "tact" don't often collide in the same sentences.

What's important is that I think he's trying to let us know that Grayman has a poor warranty and that's a good thing.

knife22 needs to polish up a bit and remember, there are a lot of ways to say the same thing w/o insulting a satisifed, happy, new owner.

AND, the sticky threads at the top of each forum should be read thoroughly so that he doesn't run afoul of Moderators who's function is to spank that *ss if you cross the line. ;)

Man, I keep clicking on this thread and going to the Grayman site to ogle pics of the Satu. The one thing that's keeping me from getting one, as I've mentioned before, is the recurve. Striderco, since you've been in touch with Grayman quite a bit and they're a small/by-hand operation, do you know if they'd be able to make one without the recurve? If so, I'd buy one or two Satus in a heartbeat.

Thanks cziv. That was the point I was making, that this knife comes with a poor warranty! I tell it like it is! What I posted wasn't crude, rude or disrespectful I was trying to get to the heart of this warranty where most people seem to misunderstand . Like I did. And there's a trend around the website about this knife that make it seem that it has a great warranty. Because his fixed blades comes with a great warranty, people assume so does this knife.

That would be awesome neuron, I would too. But, if you wanted a cool project blade, don't you think you (or someone) could grind about a smidge off the front of the bevel just enough to get it close to straight?

I've been looking at it too and apparently the hump in the handle is to accomodate the big chunk in the front which when ground down a bit, would give you either a straight or worst case a gentle recurve.

excuse my PS skills to this:

I don't think so. It makes it easier for him to fit the recurve in the handle, but you can find a hump on the handle even with straight edges. It is to fit into the curve of your palm, for better contact when you push down on a heavy use knife.

Yeah, I know sending it to another maker for a regrind is always an option, although part of the appeal of the knife (aside from the ridiculous size) is the relatively low price point given the materials/size. Once the costs of shipping, labor, and so forth for a regrind are taken into account, it'd be getting up into the price range where I'd rather just buy another Strider, Yuna, etc.

If getting a non-recurve from Grayman weren't an option and I still really wanted to try it, I think I'd end up just biting the bullet and getting the recurve version. I have no trouble putting a mirror edge on recruve-bladed knives with my Edge Pro (and the half-inch stones): my main reason for not liking recurves is simply that I don't like cutting with them, especially on larger knives.

neuron. i had a few recurves sent to me for regrinds to get rid of the recurve.
Thanks, Richard! I'll definitely be in touch if Grayman can't make a non-recurve version for me and I end up getting the recurved one.

Go neuron! I'm strapped or I'd have one too. My wife is on sick leave for a month :( That leaves me only enough cash for 2 knives I've ordered - both with December delivery around Christmas for one and the ZT 0560 whenever??

When you call, if you've not already, the lady there is really nice and maybe you can relay how much interest there is in the big dog (Satu) with a flatter blade. Not that they'll do anything immediately but it may get their attention??

I wouldn't mind even a very mild recurve like the BM 710. I'm sure they probably have blanks made up and someone putting the edge on, who could perhaps shape them up closer to what we want. People are resistant to change though so I'm pulling for you man.

Richard J. is very reasonable from what I understand too - there's always that route to consider.
