Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

One of the characteristics of Ironwood is how much it darkens with carry and use. They can end up looking like Ebony. I'm sure a lot of people who buy an Ironwood with age think it's Ebony if they don't know it is Ironwood. 🤷‍♂️

I can confirm, I’ve got an ironwood knife that’s turned chocolate brown over most of both sides. It’s the only reason I wouldn’t get one in a custom knife, otherwise it is beautiful.

Good morning Guardians, and I hope those you in the USA get to enjoy your day off, even those who already have a day off! :D I need to go into town later to take care of a few things, got a few phone calls to make this morning. Weather forecast today is cloudy all day here, so Miss Lucy wasn't too reluctant to leave her box ;) Be careful out there Guardians

Great pic of Lucy! 😁

Does almost everyone in your area pronounce "root" to rhyme with "foot"? Do they pronounce "roof" with that same "foot" rhyme? Do you know if they pronounce "hoof" to rhyme with "foot" (and should they 🤓)? Are they consistent in the way they say "root"? I think I've heard people who use different pronunciation for "root" in "root beer" than they do in "square root" or "tree root".

I’ve heard that pronunciation of “root” (rhyming with “foot”) used by Minnesotans for both root beer and tree roots. Not sure about the others. I think I have a tendency to

Whoa! Have you ever tried Killebrew Cream Soda, Barrett? Since it has "Hall of Fame Taste", I assume it's named after Hall of Fame Twins (and Senators before they moved to Twin Cities) baseball star Harmon Killebrew.

I haven’t had their cream soda, but I think I may have tried their root beer. You’re right about the connection (notice the logo looks like baseball diamond).

The Lambsfoot I'll be carrying for this first week of September is Valley Jack, my 2019 desert ironwood Guardians lambsfoot:

Beautiful knife, GT! That’s still one of my favorite Guardians SFOs.

Nice Lambs showing up today!! I've gone back to my Waynorth today - I sometimes miss its longer blade!!View attachment 2652004

It’s a beauty, Charlie. I went back and forth between the ebony and jigged bone when those came out. Went for the jigged bone, and I love it, but sometimes I wonder if maybe I should’ve got the ebony. I’d probably think the same thing in reverse if I’d gone the other way. The real answer, of course, is that I should’ve gotten both. 🙄😁

Give me a couple of lifetimes and I reckon I could!
I’ve often wondered what stories that knife could tell. I sharpen knives probably too often and you can barely tell. That old girl has had a proper working life!

I think, more often than not, the stories behind old knives that are that well-worn probably involve a bench grinder or some other aggressive form of sharpening. 😲 Not a judgment, mind you. A knife like that was obviously owned by someone who actually used it as a tool, and probably kept it sharp in the easiest/quickest way they knew how.

Absolutely stunning sunset pic, Bob!:thumbsup: And of course the Lambsfoot looks great, too. 😁

I know that I have been AWOL for quite a while. Life has been incredibly busy, and I think it's finally slowing down! It all started with my daughter getting married in Hawaii, and then went to budget season at work as soon as I returned from that trip!
I have been trying to catch up, but it's going to take quite a while!
I hope all is well with everyone, and I look forward to catching up!
I'm going to leave this here, as it is my newest Lamb, and I am really quite fond of it!😍

Definitely sounds like you’ve been busy! The way this thread’s been going lately, catching up is at least a part-time job. 😁

Great pics of your GL-24, they really show off the warmth of the Micarta! I particularly like the pile side on that one. I remember noticing it when I had them all together because I think the Micarta on your knife must have been the next piece cut after the piece used for bigfish64 bigfish64 Todd’s knife. His has an almost identical, slightly darker slash on the mark side.

I think I’ve properly identified your knife in the group pic.

Man, that one just had everything, doesn’t it? Fantastic knife, Dwight!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Today was Eleanor’s first day of 3rd grade, and Scout’s first day back in preschool, so I had a couple hours free time, which I used to check out a place I’d heard about a while back but hadn’t been yet: Ax-Man Surplus in St. Paul.

This place is wild! They sell a little bit of everything (and I mean everything!), but even more entertaining than the random and vast assortment of items for sale is the decor around the store.

Is that an iron lung next to a cutout of Foghorn Leghorn? Yes, yes it is.

The back half of the store is mostly electronic components, as well as some vintage electronic gadgets.

No knives for sale, unfortunately. This was the closest thing I found. 😁

This place was definitely an experience. There are two other locations around the Twin Cities, including one that’s actually closer to my side of town, but I’d heard the St. Paul store was the one to go to if you hadn’t been before. I didn’t exactly find anything I couldn’t live without, but I did pick up some small bins for organizing some of the larger drawers in my new tool cart/workbench/knife cabinet.

Of course I had my 2024 Guardians knife with me again today. I should’ve taken a picture of it somewhere in the Ax-Man store, but I completely forgot to, so I snapped this one later at home.

Stunning pic Steve :)
Thank you Mitch. I stay away from the shore during the summer because of the crowds.
I don't blame you Bob, must be good to get the peace and quiet back
I found this one near Dilley, TX a few years back. I can’t confirm it’s a Tortuga but that is what it looks like to me. It’s the only complete Atlatl point I’ve found as a surface collector. It may be another typology that was chipped down from its original form. I love finding these fragments of another time. 😃👍🏻

Fascinating stuff Pete
I'm carrying Valley Jack, my 2019 desert ironwood Guardians Lambsfoot this week as my Lambsfoot of the Week. Here are mark and pile photos from February 2019, when Valley Jack was new.

I was very pleased with the Ironwood we got for that run :)

Yes, a lot of the initial character gets lost

Good evening Guardians. 😎 I’m just fixing some leftover brisket and chips from our Labor Day cookout for supper tonight. Have a great week!

Incredible example Dwight  :)

Nice pic of Brian Mitch :)
That's a cool Lamb David
Valley Jack lookin’ good there! But to your point this is my 2019 ironwood.
Wow, that has really darkened hasn't it?!
Great pic of Lucy! 😁
Thanks buddy, thought you'd like that one ;) I think I'm going to find another movie partner for Shaun  I mentioned it to my mate Matt last night, and he couldn't have shown less interest 🤷‍♂️ Even less interest than I showed when Wolfie told me he was boxing again yesterday! :D ;)
You've got further than I ever did with the '19s Barrett, some of the owners of those never even posted a pic here  Well done :)

That place looks absolutely amazing! :D I hope the girls settle back into school OK :) Kids are back here this week, some yesterday, some today. Wednesday seems like a strange day to go back to school, but I guess it makes for a short week! :D
Cool pic Jack :)
Afternoon all
Looking good Mitch :)

Good morning Guardians, I had a nap mid afternoon, but then had difficulty dropping off last night  Got work over the next 3 days. Going to have to miss the market, but hopefully I'll get everything done by the weekend. Hope everyone is having a good week. My GL-24 found its way back into my pocket ;) Took the pic at the market last week. I quite liked that splitting wedge, but it's another thing I don't need! :D Have a good day Guardians

Great photo Jack. That looks like an old trowel I was just using.
It looked like Barrett gave us a market report, without the characters.

Cool picture Jack !
