smkw is pretty on making things right. completely different scenario...but I had a knife they sent me that was missing 1 of the 2 sheaths it came with. I complained via email on a day when i shouldn't have as i was grumpy and kinda angry and wasnt real pleasant in it, thats on me though....and got a call from a manager who apologized, let me rant a bit til i was calm.....while she stayed calm and focused. then sent me the missing sheath. pretty good....considering I didnt approach it correctly.I didn't know smkw had that great of customer service, I've never dealt with them for any issues.
That said, the manufacturer failed me yesterday. I literally posted the thread minutes after the knife came back to me from golden. I don't agree this is on smkw to deal with at this point, had I known the knife was uncenterable and spyderco warranty was this way I would have returned it after purchase. But that ship sailed.
I attempted to center it and then tried to live with it, ultimately the centering irked me so I sent it in. I didn't do anything wrong, smokey mountain knife works didn't do anything wrong, spyderco should just fix their manufacturing defect. Period. Attempts at laying fault literally anywhere else are misguided and ridiculous.
I will say I learned a lesson, I've had great luck with zero tolerance warranty (kai in general), olamic, cold steel before gsm, I honestly wasn't expecting spyderco to go this route. Foolish of me, to expect a major well known and established brand like spyderco who I've gotten most members of my family knives from, to have a decent warranty.
Now, not all hope is lost and I am inclined to believe that eventually someone there will look at that knife and make it right, but let's be honest it shouldn't have to take this thread to accomplish that. If they do it. How many people get their knife back and just get sour'd silently? Apparently quite a few. They are a big company, perhaps they just don't care if they lose people from bad warranty, it probably won't put a dent in their numbers.
Clearly others have had negative experiences from the warranty dept, maybe Sal just isnt aware they are turning legit problems away and it's giving them a black eye.
I like Antdogs idear though on redealing with spyderco.....solid idear.....
